Red Dead Redemption disscusion

Post » Sat Dec 19, 2009 11:36 am

I've yet to find out if the entire game world is explorable right off the bat. Does anyone know? I'd hate it if you had to unlock areas like in GTA, I probably wouldn't buy it if that was the case.

I think (only speculation) that you have to unlock it, but remmebr that each section will be really big, bigger than the size of the first island in GTA: Sa probably.

I believe the entire world is explorable right away actually, but even if it's not, it doesn't really matter. I like exploring, but there are far more interesting things to do in that game, so it's not a problem for me.

I think between New Austin and Northern Mexico (forget the name) you'll have to unlock Mexico like you do the islands of GTA. But once you start the game in New Austin, I'm sure you can go into all the counties that they have there. Same with Mexico and its counties. Just speculation though.

Because photocopying gaming magazines is against forum rules.

I watched an old Clint Eastwood film the other day, and it occured to me, how is it that the western genre has only really survived in videogames? I mean, there's got to be a market for it. Hopefully this stuff goes in cycles, so when the current slew of superhero films dies off, there will be an era of renewed westerns.

A quiz is up on RDR.com, go to features, and honor and fame. I got the "You are a Maverick" result.

That just brought me to some website for an insurance company. However, I was able to find the quiz here: http://www.rockstargames.com/reddeadredemption/

A quiz is up on RDR.com ...

I got...

'You are a diamond in the rough: you are a prince among men, a pillar of society who looks out for others and champions the underdog. You carry yourself with decency, integrity and dignity and have a clear sense of right and wrong, but you're still human. While you almost always choose the right path, your dark side rears its ugly head from time to time when you think that nobody's looking.'

That's actually pretty close to how I am in real life, too.

I got diamond in the rough as well. Most of the questions didn't have enough options though. You couldn't just ignore stuff.

YOU ARE A MAVERICK: You refuse to be shackled by society's norms and live by your own code, which nobody understands but you. You believe that honor and morality are subjective, and should be defined by the individual rather than the state. You are a kind of Wild West proto-hippy who hasn't quite grasped the 'peace' component of your life mantra yet. You're conflicted and drink heavily.

After reading that and The Outlaw article, I'm not sure what side I'll be taking on my first play through? Or after play. Though, it does seem after reading The Hero, the writer couldn't help but do some things devious and bad in a sense. So maybe, Rockstar's decided that there's more to being the bad guy of sorts? Either way, those articles make me SO excited and hyped... (So I'm buying into the hype, it's alright. Everyone does it for one game or another.)

I'm officially hyped to the max for this game.

I'm not preordering though. Wal-Mart/Gamestop always has loads of extra copies. And the pre order goodies aren't that great.
