http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3397960 It gives a vague idea of what the game is like and goon opinions of the game.

Now for everything else:
Red Eclipse is a first person shooter with a very hectic pace; sort of like unreal tournament, except less flashy. It's got a few different game modes like death match, team death match, capture the flag, hot potato, and capture the bomb. Each one of these game modes can be modified in a variety of ways via in game mutations like instagib, vampire, and a whole host of others.
Each weapon comes built in with an alt-fire mode, except the pistol just seems to be a pistol either way you shoot it. I haven't really bothered with that weapon.
ANYWAY, the list of weapons you get to maim each other with is:
-pistol-rapid fire pistol
-shotgun-pellet bomb
-flamethrower-napalm shot
-plasma pistol-lightning vortex
-rifle-sniper rifle
-smg-thumper (think of the thumper's from borderlands.)
-sword-sword. (The alt fire just slashes the sword vertically instead of horizontally.)
-grenade-sticky bomb. Plus you can cook both to the point of using it as a kamikaze weapon
-Okay the rocket launcher is only in select game modes. It's alt fire is a homing rocket.
And if you get close enough to your oponent, one of the buttons let's you either punch or kick him.
The graphics are very simple but the options come with enough modifiers to make the game pretty. There's even a color code chart at the top that says Fast, Moderate, Slow and pretty.
The game comes with a boatload of interesting and well balanced maps. But if that isn't enough for you, or you just have a hard on for modding, the game comes with a map editor. Again, I haven't bothered with the thing because I'm more worried about shooting things in the face.
A couple of con's the game has:
-No music past the menu screen.
-Hit boxes are slightly off
-The hit confirmation noise is just a beep which is easily overlooked.
-Graphics aren't on the cutting edge. Probably won't bother most but some people love them some pretty graphics.
-I guess another con is you seem to only be able to carry 3 weapons at a time. I personally like it this way but your mileage may vary.
Some pro's of the game:
-Fast paced
-Lot's of levels
-Online/offline play. Offline plays with bots.
-Map editor
-Simple enemy identifier. If it's a different color, shoot it.
-Decent amount of guns with tactics for each.
-IT'S COMPLETELY FREE!
-The download link I provided has downloads for windows, linux, win32, mac osx.
-Completely customizable controls.
If you love fps's in a similar vein as unreal tournament, this is a fully recomended download. Give it a go and tell us what you think of it.
Now if you'll excuse me I have more things to shoot in the face.
Edit: Spelling and forgot a link.
