Red Glare: Am I missing something?

Post » Tue Dec 06, 2011 7:57 am

So I've finally started using Red Glare a bit, is it my imagination or is this the worst weapon in the game? I'm hitting tragets head on and they're not even flinching. The only way I can register damage is in VATS and even that's hit or miss. I shot like 20 rockets at 2 Deathclaws in the Mojave and nothing. Shot a Fire Gecko in the face, nothing. I don't get it.

Sounds like a bug or your missing horribly.

The Red Glare is automatic rocket launcher with a really long scope. You should at least be able to pulverize a deathclaw from long range by firing off a clip full of rockets before the first one even impacts.

That's what I'm sayin! lol I fired off about 20 rockets around both of them, didn't so much as register a hit. I did it while hidden (at least the first 2-3) and didn't get a critical?

IIRC, Red Glare is more along the lines of Archimedes ll, IE it's more a crowd control weapon as opposed to 'GOD MODE TIME!'

So its a bug you should have been dealing some damage, and it can't critical.

Except Red Glare is ten times as effective.

Looks like some kind of explosion bug to me. It has nothing to do with the actual stats of the weapon (well sort of).

Wait are you actually HITTING the target? I noticed that Red Glare doesn't exactly have the best spread, so missing horribly with a Fat Man isn't the same as missing horribly with Red Glare. With Red Glare you need to HIT the target.

Sounds like a bug

The main weakness of Red Glare is that it's AOE range is very small, and it barely puts out any AOE damage. So if you are not hitting the target directly, it won't do much damage at all. If you are hitting your target directly and it still isn't doing any damage, then its probably a glitch.

I'll have to go back and check, I know that I can snipe with the Holorifle from a hundred yards away, this thing doesn't look like it DIRECTLY hits anything. I figured the explosions should do SOMETHING.

Ok just did a quick run through the South Vegas Ruins. Ok I hit some people, people died. The problem is that rockets seem to fire right through enemies. I have them lined up in my scope and the explosion happens 20 yards behind them. Oh well, not gonna be using this weapon too much, gonna give Mercy some more run.

I never really used Red Glare that much even on my explosives character. It just never seemed to do the damage that its stats said it should be.

You seem to have replaced the rockets with live puppies.

Red Glare does not have a crit multiplier, meaning it won't get a critical hit unless in sneak. It is more for crowds of enemies, rather than hard armored ones.

I'm gathering that......

The splash damage is terrible, like I said I was peppering the entire area around the deathclaw in HIDDEN and they didn't even flinch. I think this one is going back in the cabinet at Novac......

With an Explosives skill of 50, I took Red Glare into Dead Wind cavern. It killed both Deathclaws outside the cavern, and consistently dealt enough splash damage to cripple all sorts of deathclaw legs within the cavern. However, it really wasn't effective enough for that character due to her non-explosives specialties.

I don't think there's anything wrong with the weapon...when it doesn't glitch.

I'm pretty sure my explosive skill is 95 or 96, it should be good enough.

Yeah, you should be kicking all kinds of ass with that skill level. I don't know what to tell you. Except that Red Glare itself isn't the problem. There's been this issue with Explosive weapons that sometimes shows up.

With explosives, always aim for the legs. Even if you miss, you catch them with the splash damage.
