Redguard and Khajiit based Crime RP idea

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 10:05 pm

Hey guys, so here's an RP idea that's been brewing in the recesses of my head for a little while.

Firstly, its not a half-assed Renrijra Krin RP, nor is it a flimsy attempt at one of those family gangster crime outfits that everybody wants, but doesn't want to stick to.

Its both, and neither at the same time. It has the environment of The Godfather or Scarface, the tension of The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, the calculated swashbuckling of The Seven Samurai, and finally the sensibilities of Morrowind at its harsh, Dagoth-haunted fringes.

Now leaving aside my poorly devised buying points, I'll give you some major points that are the plot.

:- The year is 3E 429. For the last decade, the Empire has been withering away. The Septims are old and sickly. Uriel Septim VII's heir is 50 years old, without sons. As Geldall Septim, he holds the Dragon Throne as regent but his failure in administration leads many to believe that the Septim blood is thin. In Hammerfell, the Redguard city-states are becoming more united as the necessity for a Forebear faction and a Crown faction recedes. In Elsweyr, the bickering rajahs of Pellitine and Anequina are privately encouraging illegal moon sugar trade as the new Mane embarks on a campaign to purge Senchal, affectionately known as the [censored]-Hole of the Empire, of illegal activity.

:- The old smugglers' run called the Blue Stretch between Torval and Leyawiin has suddenly become more dangerous as Marius Caro of Leyawiin tightens the laws on Khajiit, Argonians and illegal activity in general. Brown-shirted enforcers roam the foreign districts nightly, dealing with noisy Khajiit, Argonians and Orcs. Many Khajiit are resorting to the long route around Valenwood by sea to the Abecean Isles, particularly Stros M'Kai and Stirk. In turn, the daring Redguard smugglers have taken it upon themselves to dare the Blue Stretch with not only skooma, but khat, hallucinogenic mushrooms and even Dwemer prizes plundered from Stros M'Kai and mainland Hammerfell. Along with the smugglers comes an entourage of swordsmen, pirates and priests.

:- Senchal, the main setting of our story, is in jeopardy. The Mane of Elsweyr has decided to purge the city of all its decadence and corruption. The rich Khajiiti clans with close ties to all the smuggling operations in the city are opposed to the new Mane and the Empire who maintain a nominal garrison in the city. Freelance smugglers are looking for help from the powerful clans, but the tight Royalist (Mane-following) operations with the aid of Imperial watches on the bay, are preventing any immediate action.

:- In four days, an Imperial ship bearing 400,000 Septims worth of Dwemer and Orichalc goods from Hammerfell, destined for Bravil, is to pass through Senchal for more supplies and a new crew before heading to Leyawiin. Rumours abound that the smugglers of Senchal plan to steal the load, disperse it to get gold, then use the resources to end the Mane's influence in Senchal. As such, Imperial officers have been dispatched to crack down on thievery before the ship's arrival.

Three factions are vying for the prize - the foreign and mostly Redguard smugglers, the Khajiit crime syndicates, and the Mane/Empire forces - and with less than a week to prepare. Perhaps a chase for the prize might even lead as far as Cyrodiil, if things go awry...

I'd appreciate if you guys would leave a comment rather than debating the merits of somebody's character.

Suggestions, critique, etc... are all encouraged. Feel free to ask any questions or anything. I really want to know what would make you want to join this RP, how it could be better for you.

Appologies, I was going to edit some stuff into my other post.

I like it, i like the simple crime scene you have set. They have money, the Khajiit want money, the redguards want money, the law wants to keep the money. Its a good recipe, some people try to make these RP's and dont set any goals so people have trouble figuring out what to do, then some people make them and set to many goals, so people are going after things unaposed.

I'd join this, i jsut need to figure out if i want to be redguard or Khajiit.

I found the perfect title for this RP!

GTS: Senchal

The "s" can stand for either Senche or Ship.

Hell, between the Moon sugar and inherent abilities of the Khajiit, this could be really, really colorful and fun! Now, Dar'shandi keeps his distance from this place (He applauds the Mane's efforts. After all, if the Mane is busy focused on Senchal, perhaps he is less focused on other things, such as his treasury or members of his harem :hubbahubba: ) So, maybe I will ressurect my female gangster hoker.

Would people be limited on playing as Redguard or Khajiit, or are we able to use any other race as a character? I don't think that people should be limited to starting their characters as a member of the Redguard or Khajiiti factions, and could by bystanders or mercenaries swept into the fray.

You won't be restricted in race, and I'd like to see the likes of Dunmer and Argonians as smugglers particularly.

I think people should be limited to one of the three factions until there is a solid base of RPers with around three members per faction. I've watched faction-based RPs flop because too many people go freelance, or there is too little interaction and planning within factions. The freelance option would be for people later on, once the RP is rolling. If people don't join the factions, it kinda defeats the purpose.

EDIT: "real" races only. No mystic elves, I'd prefer no vampires or werewolves, or even racial crossbreeds. If you want a racial crossbreed, your character will be a mongrel of both races so you'll probably fight right into Senchal's underbelly, but anybody like that should discuss it with me via PM first.

I'll join this. Just asking, is there any restriction on use of moon sugar or skooma? After all, this is a teen rated forum. And isn't 3E 429 before Oblivion? And Uriel VII was the emperor who was assassinated, and he did have sons.

Uh, skooma is acceptable, I'm sure. If its in Morrowind, this is the Morrowind forum, so yep.

Uriel VII is the Empire, but we all know his health was failing before his assassination and that his eldest, Geldall, was Crown Prince.

That's why its set before Oblivion.

Could I run a Khajiit Nightblade? Not an uber Invisible Teleporting Poisoned-Arrow-Shooting munchkin one of course. :D More like a fairly skillful footpad with a few handy magical tricks. Thought I might expand on the little-known Tojay breed and have it as a 'panther' style Khajiit, lithe with black fur.

BTW, Senchal sounds mightily awesome:

This infamous city is the largest port in southern Tamriel. Its sprawl covers the easternmost tip of Elsweyr's Quin'rawl peninsula, a motley assortment of bazaars, taverns, merchant quarters, and open-air markets ringed on three sides by its crowded harbors. Senchal is a favorite stopping point for pirates and sea captains seeking to ply illegal or blackmarket goods, it being far easier to smuggle these goods into and out of the Empire by way of the Topal Sea than to use the well-guarded inland highways. Thieves abound here, as do beggars and pathetic khajiit sugar junkies. The traveler is advised to steer clear of Black Keirgo, Senchal's most squalid and dangerous quarter, when visiting the city. Illicit sugar-dens line the streets here, where beastmen and nobility alike wither away in sucrose fevers. All in all, Senchal is the ugliest city outside of Imperial jurisdiction. The air is humid and full of the chimney-smoke caught in the eddies from the surrounding coasts. Much of the city is abandoned or in ruins. In CE560, a strain of the Knahaten Flu blew across the channel from nearby Argonia and quickly infected the city's population. Whole neighborhoods were razed in some mad effort to cleanse Senchal of the Flu and have never been rebuilt. Visitors to the open-air markets can see these charred skylines on the periphery, as black and jagged as the teeth of the nearest sugar junkie, begging for cake.

That's exactly why I picked Senchal. :)

I'm sure you could run the Nightblade. My two priorities here for this RP are to create a dedicated player base, and to cut down on all UBER aspects associated with Khajiit. No Cathay-raht, is a rule that people will have to live with... From what I've seen, just nobody can RP one fairly. I may allow a select few who could convince me of their ability, but as far as openly, Cathays and Cathay-raht will probably be forbidden.

So I asked, "Where'd you get that?" and the parrot replied, "Hammerfell, the place is full of them!"

And I wanted to play a Cathay (not -raht), simply because they seem to be more "average"... Suthay seem to be a bit too quick and jumpy for my character idea.

If I've heard correctly, he is 7 foot tall, weights over twice as much as he should (700 lbs? a biped of his size I would weigh in at no more than 250 lbs.) From what I've heard of his weapons, he uses an impossibly-sized axe with ease... Besides, this place is Southern Elsweyr, not Northern. Here we are much more civilized, not savage barbaric warriors.

I just realised several similarities between Senchal and Gotham... Which leads me to wonder, should I be the Batman, or Catwoman?
