Redguard Hairstyles

Post » Tue Sep 22, 2009 7:21 pm

One thing I noticed about TES (and most games in general) is that when creating an African character (or one based off those with coarse hair ala the Redgaurds in TES) there are very few hair options. Even in boxing games like Fight Night there are very few hairstyles that make any sense on a black character. This applies to TES as well. One of the key characteristics of African peoples and those from the islands is afro texured hair.

It would be nice if Bethesda gave Redgaurds hair options that actually made sense for their descriptions. Maybe small afros? Thin dreadlocks (that would be awesome because I have em)? Different cornrow styles? Pretty much anything... it just throws me off when I see a character who is based off African peoples with hair as straight as the Japanese. I know Reguards have never been a favorite race but I dont think they should be looked over. Im sure the black people that play Skyrim would appreciate a small change.

PS: It's nice to be posting here again after several years. Figured it was a good enough time as any to make a new account.

I concur. I think there was a mod in Morrowind called "rheds heads" or something that added a goodly variety of sensible afro styles. As far as TES-V is concerned, the more character customization the better. :)

I did notice that Morrowind actually had more appropriate hair options for Redguards... My character wore a short ponytail with an afro puff on the end if you can recall seeing that

Hm never noticed to be honest, personally Redguards are my 3rd favorite race.

Also there was a cornrow of sorts in Morrowind, and in Oblivion there were both cornrows and an afro wig IIRC.

With you on this one, they should definately have more hair styles. I would like to see more hair styles in general though really and hair that you can make longer than shoulder lenght.

Redguards for life!!!

I do agree there needs to be more options for Redguards. Not just the stereotypical huge afro and crazy dread locks, but something believable and would definitely fit within the context of TES.

haha in retrospect maybe I expected a bit much. I mean I doubt Redguards spend time lining each others hair and designing fades and tapers. Dreads would be sick tho. Not necessarily the huge Bob Marley type but maybe thin ones. And I'll tell you it would probably be a huge ordeal trying to fit a fro into a Deadric helmet.

I think my main issue is just the fact that their hair doesnt even look coarse most of the time.

*still recovering from Jeffredo's Kid n Play picture...* Okay, better.

I'd love to see some classic tight corn rows. I realize that Oblivion had a similar style, but they didn't quite work for me, personally. Think more "Voodoo" era D'angelo. So awesome.

Dreadlocks fit into the context of TES. Khajiits could wear them in Oblivion.

Oblivion had a fro and two styles of dreds. Not too bad, I'd say, given how meager the hair selection was over all. I'd definitely like more styles this time around.

Are Redguards African? I remember reading somewhere that they were more Middle-Eastern influenced. I may be wrong, I'm no expert. I thought they were a pirate-like nation, kind of like Sinbad the sailor.

Seeing as I have a fro, I'd like to have an actual fro in game. But if there isn't, its not a big fuss.

They're very Persian/Arabic influenced.
