No Redguard love?

Post » Thu Nov 04, 2010 12:37 am

I've never liked Redguards. They're ugly! >:)
When it comes to Orcs, my first OB character was an Orc and my current favourite races are Nords, Orcs and Bretons. :)

I fireball redguards in the face! I didn't play one in oblivion but I did in morrowind. At that time it was much more fun than a mage and having to swap between sword and magic hands.

I seldom play close combat fighters but when I do I usually play redguards. Orcs are boring and nords look terrible (in Morrowind and Oblivion).

I always play Redguards during my first playthrough of any TES game. I like their looks, and I tend toward the warrior races. As straight-up fighters, they are probably the best race in the game.

I've always found there's a problem with Redguard depth. They were never really represented well in the game (similarly to Bosmer). Always shown as the "goody-good" race. Nothing morally grey. Book lore, of course, is completely different.

I'm assuming most have characters as an extension of themselves. Unless they want to look "cool" with an elf/beast, they'll play a human. Pretty sure most of us nerds are white.

I'm also pretty sure Bethesda are scared of being "racist". I mean, just look at how Resident Evil 5 got rants for having black zombies in Africa.

Personally, I love to play a Redguard outlaw. I think they work amazingly for it.

Their are an abundance of black nerds. And a SUPERABUNDANCE of Asain nerds. Black nerds sometimes pass as regular folk because they look cool on the surface, but the inside can be just as nerdy as any bibliophile could imagine.

I play as any race that doesn't make me hurl when I look at them. I played as redguards on occasion in Daggerfall but they've looked pretty awful in every TES game since, as have altmer. THe beast races have been hit and miss in the series, and orcs have never looked good...till now. I'm looking forward to trying some of these races in Skyrim if the improvements in appearance are anything like how fantastic orcs seem to be in the pics I've seen.

Redguards are always my choice for completing the main quest without distractions such as joining other guilds - they are tough enough to just get with the action straight away and the adrenaline rush is very useful in a tight spot when you've run out of potions.

My current Redguard has the sign of the atronach to add both a little more defense and while she is not a magic user that extra pool of magicka can come in handy

I use other races to play around with the guilds - but my Reguard gets the job done early

I'll probably make one eventually, but all I know for sure is that I REALLY want to see what the argonians look like now lol

HUGE SPOILER AHEAD!
Spoiler
I'm not white.

And I never play as a redguard. I've tried to recreate myself in Oblivion a couple of times but I never got passed the character creation screen.

Is it just me, or am I the only one who personally always plays as them, or Orcs?

I'm usually a white redguard when I play a warrior type, a wood elf for a stealth type, and a breaton for my main mage occasionally a high elf, but very rarely.

The redguard racial abilities don't fit with my style of play.

Because Altmer are big jerkfaces.

Redguard are one of the races with the coolest history that get the least ability to display their culture. Because they're human they always just end up looking like another human character, which is really unfortunate because out of all the human races they have the most unique cultural background. I mean they have this whole desert culture mixed with bushido with a bit of Ottoman turk Byzantium thrown in for good measure, there's a whole lot of flavor there that you never really see reflected in Redguard characters NPC or otherwise. I'm hoping some of the new racial armors address this.

Redguards don't interest me, nor do the beast races.

I prefer characters that resemble me.

This. If I play a character, I either play as an anology of myself or play something completely different. I'll play a Nord, Bretpn or an Imperial first, then a Dunmer or a Beast race. Altmer and Redguards hold that in-the-middle place.

I love the Redguards. Unfortunately in Morrowind, they had horrible hair and faces, in Oblivion it was impossible to make a nice character. Hopefully it'll be easier in Skyrim.

I made the same three characters in Morrowind, Oblivion, Fallout 3, and New Vegas. The interpretations are slightly different each time, but they're basically the same characters.

Redguard warrior
Bosmer thief
Dunmer mage

I like Redguards. Gleaned a little interesting history from this thread; think I'll go read some more.

And I hope the character editor is good.

Somehow I can never get into playing the beast races. Just can't identify with them well enough I guess.

as much as i like to play with characters that look black. redguards dont really appeal too much to me. i like them tho. i just dont play as them. i was thinking about giving it a chance next time but only after i play with a nord. which will be the first human race i've played thru with. i've only really messed with orcs and argonians. well there was a high elf and a wood elf...but i didnt really enjoy it.

My first character in Morrowind was a Redgaurd. He was a skilled swordsmaster. He walked around in a fine cloak, a longsword at his belt. Interestingly enough I never played a Dunmer in Morrowind...

Anyways, Orcs I've never been a fan of, cause they were implemented poorly in past games, but Skyrim Orcs look amazing.

I always make at least one Redguard crusader. A big John Henry type with a huge hammer, nasty AOE and good buffs.
Then I make a very angry Redguard with a great sword and light/medium armor.
Hopefully I can make one that looks like tha Masai warrior in my av.

Meh. Never like the human races much. Nor the beast folk. Or those "high" mer. Especially dislike the f*cked up hobbits woodland folk. Can't stand green people either. Guess that leaves one race, you guess. Does that make me racist?
