Redguard Nord alliance

Oh don't get me wrong. I think the Nords are better and stronger fighters, but a military needs numbers as well, and I don't think they have it right now.

Didn't the Nords do more with less once before? I mean Ysgramor and the 500 are literally legendary.

What evidence do you have to suggest that High Rock would be very much aligned with Skyrim? We know next to nothing about the situation in High Rock presently, and you'd need something a bit more than "they worship Talos too!", cos you know they do just that in Cyrodiil as well.

Both the Stormcloaks and the Imperial Legion can benefit from allying themselves with the Redguards of Hammerfell.

Legion = Attempting to make up for leaving them to fend off for themselves agaisnt the Dominion before, and possibly re-include the province into the Empire. It could be done undercover so the Thalmor wouldn't notice, too, by sending their strongest Imperial agent to do the job [ the Dragonborn]

Stormcloaks = To ally Skyrim with the only other independant province which's been fighting the elves off as well they have. The fact that Hammerfell also despises the Empire would be a bonus.

Enough for every boy born around the time of the Great war to be an able bodied man now, and going off birth rates that gives men the advantage.

For one thing, they've suffered direct Thalmor aggression on their own territory, even if it was directed at Direnni and Altmer refugee interests. That doesn't mean that there will be anyone in High Rock capable enough to see the writing on the wall or powerful enough to do anything about it, though. I agree that we simply don't know anything about the situation there.

Ysgramor and the 500 was likely an exaggeration like The Spartans and their 300. Ysgramor probably had 500, but they were likel just the spearhead that started it all. I mean come on, 500 guys committing genocide? Plus, they had the thu'um.

While it's possible, I find it unlikely. Atmora was in a civil war at the time, so Ysgramor's resources were likely limited.
No they didn't. Man didn't attain the Thu'um until the dragon wars.

Do we even know how big the Thalmor forces are? The rising threat made it sound like they never really had large numbers.

At first, but the civil wars were ended whn he went back to get more men, and he used the Night of Tears as a way to unite them against a common cause. (Sounds familiar, lol.)

Nope. Elves don't reproduce in large numbers though, so my personal opinion is that the Khajiit are the biggest threat. I'd be worried about the Wild Hunt too, if I wasn't sure the Bosmer would throw in with the humans once they showed sufficient forces that could save them.

The wild hunt kills indiscriminately, though doesn't it?

Probably. I haven't read about it since Skyrim's release though.

The Wild Hunt is a bit hit and miss. Think of it like a tactical nuke instead of a sniper's round. You'll probably kill who you intended to but.... you'll take a lot of other people with you.

I haven't read this bit.

anyway, you brought up a comparison to Sparta, but this is fantasy isn't it? It doesn't need to be realistic. I mean, Pelinal was a walking god. that's never happened irl.

I like to think it has some resemblance to realism. 500 guys taking a whole province by themselves is beyond ridiculous, even with Pelinal.

I'm not saying they had pelinal. (It's my opinion that pelinal could do it alone.)

And what about the Snow elf king who killed uh... a ton of Nords by himself or whatever? I can't find his wiki to get the specific number, but forum posters have led me to believe it was gargantuan.

The Snow Elf king that, according to Nords was killed by a little girl.

I find the whole Ysgramor and the 500 companions far too difficult to take at face value, in truth.

Pelinal was badass personified though.

It didn't sound like he killed THAT many people to me. I think people blew his death toll out of proportion because the dude got pwnd by a 12 year old badass little Nord girl. But I could be wrong, and they did have the help of enchaned gear from a master, but I doubt he outfitted every single soldier, even if they were only 500. Those would be some op stats. Plus, the draugr we find don't have gear that strong.

So why is Pelinal's power acceptable, but the 500's not?

If it really was only 500 dudes, Pelinal did most of the work, lol.

I'm not saying Pelinal could do it alone, nor am I saying he and 500 other Atmorans (where Ysgramor is counted among that number), merely agreeing that Pelinal was a badass.
