I'd like to get a good perspective of the racial bases before I make my decision for my race in Skyrim

Sorta kinda. Bethesda's races are very unique, borrowing a lot from numerous cultures. Dunmer being a prime example.

To me, the Redguards are a hybrid of Arabia/Morocco(very expansionistic, good traders and explorers. The Forebearers fit this mold.) and ancient African civilizations like Kush or Benin, very cultured and conservative, especially with the Crowns for their love of tradition.

Bosmer are South American tribes to me. Living in massive forests, cannibalism, predilection to animal spirits etc.

Khajiit are a mix. The northern Khajiit live in tribal clans that move place to place, kinda like the Masai or Fulani of Africa, or the Lakota and Commanche of North America. The southern Khajiit live in city-states on shores, bogs, and river basins, like Egyptian and Indian cities, especially since they used to fight amongst each other and have classes based on birth(Khajiit are born in certain types based on the Lunar Lattice) like Gupta India. Khajiit civilization is considered to be one of the oldest.

I think Redguards are inspired in Venetians (medieval Venetians), traders, pirates and good swordsmen.

Well, no. The races in the Elder Scrolls are rather unique and take influence from many cultures, and even from other fantasy games. It would be wrong to associate one fantasy race to a culture IRL, because it's well, a fantasy game. Instead of comparing them to real life cultures, look at them like you would in-game.

Redguards are dark skinned sword worshipers, basically the finest warriors in Tamriel, but their adventurous hearts make them horrible soldiers, and more tuned to the life of an adventurer.

Khajiit are the cat-men of the deserts of Elsweyr. They worship Skooma and the moons, and are suited for the life of a thief. Mostly seen as second class citizens as well.

Bosmer are adventurous and care-free tribals who practice cannibalism. As Redguards are the best swordsmen, Bosmer are the best Archers, as well as strong at stealth.

Uh, actually, Breton is an IRL term for people form Britain. And again, no, Imperials are not Romans, they're Imperials, Redguards are not Carthaginians, they are Redguards.

*Notices that Imperials have the same armor and names as Romans*
*Notices that Nords have the same names and culture as Scandinavians*

Listen to this guy. He's the only one using logic to deduce what cultures were obviously considered when the game was created.

All you sycophants who think the ES races came miraculously into Todd's head, get real. Or did he invent half timber houses, iron weaponry, basket weaving, and all the other innumerable minutia that are 100% based on previous existing human cultures INCLUDING all the races.

This...

An example is the fact that Nord's and Breton's are actual human races on planet earth...

Yeah.

I don't get the weird attitude on this board that ES cultures and races weren't based on Earth.

You're right, Nordic people IRL can use shouts as weapons, came from Atmora, killed off the Falmer for their homeland, and started the human race?

And I bet you think Bretons IRL are half elves, too, right? The only similarity is their names and some cultural influences, but nothing else. I mean sure, they obviously have influence from real life, but this is a FANTASY game, therefore having their own unique cultures and races.

You're thinking of BRITONS. "BRETONS" were from France, also called Gaul in antiquity...of course, the terms themselves are related because there was cultural overlap, but in the medieval era, "Breton" was always much more French, which is why Bretons in game had names like Louise Beauchamp. Not "Twinkly Featherbiscuits" or names that ARE 100% created, but totally stupid.

But if you knew your history you wouldn't believe the tripe that this game is so miraculous as to give birth to actual, dynamic culture. Heck, even REAL human culture is always derivative of something else.

Or do you also believe that the Space Marines from Alien, Halo, and Warhammer 40K, Starcraft, and Starship Troopers - the 1959 BOOK (which are also all not related to each other... ) are not based on actual, American Marines (as well as British and any other nationality with maritime trained ground soldiers)
