Rediscovering Old Items

Post » Wed Dec 02, 2009 4:50 am

I really would love to see as many of the artifact items from lore as possible. Seeing as this is taking place 200+ years after Oblivion I would expect that many of these items would have been traded and have migrated throughout the world and they seem to gather around beings bore of lore prophesy.

I was wondering what people thought of coming across stuff from the previous Elder Scrolls in Skyrim? A favourite weapon or some armor.

I was playing Oblivion the other day and I have to say I enjoy using Dawnfang/Duskfang & I thought wouldn't it be cool 200 hundred years later to come across the two crystals that are apart of the weapon in a dungeon somewhere which starts a quest. You have to go to a number of blacksmiths to track down a rumor of someone skilled enough to forge them into a weapon. After you visit a few smithies you piece together the location of a hermit smith who lives off somewhere & when you go to him, he/she gives you the option of:

A - Puting both crystals into a 1 handed sword, mace or axe.
B - Puting both crystals into a 2 handed sword, hammer or axe.
C - Puting each crystal into a seperate weapon, ie. one crystal in two 1 handed Shortswords, Longswords, Axes, Maces or combo of both. (Each weapon is slightly weaker then having both crystals in single weapon)

That's just what I thought would be cool. Put your ideas in.

P.S - Love also to see the Staff of Magnus & Chrysamere in Skyrim.

i would actually like to see dawnfang/duskfang return as a reward for sheogoraths quest if hes in the game :]

Voted no. Umbra is cool but I'm fine with all new special weapons.

With attributes supposedly gone, what are they going to do with Oghma Infinium? Have it add skill points or add to the hp/mp/stamina totals?

"Other" - I don't really have an opinion one way or the other, because I never really caught the "find and collect famous artifacts" bug in Oblivion (or MW). In fact, Oblivion and FO3 are some of the few cRPGs that I haven't gotten (or downloaded) a guide for - I've never found all the bobbleheads in FO3, for instance. And I don't believe I've ever run across Umbra. (I typically go after some of the Daedric Shrine artifacts, but that's for their function - like the lockpick & Azura's Star - not because they're artifacts. The shrine artifacts are also pretty obvious. Hard to avoid them, really. :))

I voted yes. Ever since the first (or second game) the artifacts have been reused over and over again.

Gief me Chrysamere and Eleidon's Ward plz! And not in a quest! Make them non-quest related and very well defended or very well hidden!

It's been 200 years.

I'm sure some of the old weapons from Morrowind and Oblivion are seeking worthy wielders again by now.

How do you think they are going to handle some of the buffs now that the attributes are mostly gone? ie ones that increased strength, speed and such

I'd love to. I'd love it even more if they weren't levelled items.

Yes
Quite a few are within the gift of the Daedric Princes so I'd imagine we will see Daedric quests to obtain them

Pity its unlikely we'll see the Spear of Bitter Mercy though

Yeah but Jyggalag is around now.Think of the possibilities.

I hope they have a lot of the artifacts.

This is off topic but I'm hoping for the return of sub-class weapons, and by that I mean katana's,broad swords, clubs, etc.I miss my daedric dia-katana

I'd like to see plain old humble chitin weapons and armor make a come back. Sure they ain't artifacts, and they ain't fancy... but I still love the concept.
"that bug's shell is harder than my skin... so I'm going to wear it, and make weapons out of left over pointy bits".

Ahhhh ashlander resourcefulness. :)

I think we'll obviously see some familiar items. Mostly artifacts. Artifacts are in every game. There has been a few artifacts that have been in EVERY ES game, so I cannot imagine why it wouldn't continue to be that way in Skyrim.

Eleidon's Ward. Not for the enchant on it so much, but it looked great in Morrowind.

I started a topic on the forum's thoughts to attribute changes, and someone gave me a huge list of similar threads and pretty much told me to be more original next time.

Moving swiftly along from that, I read quite a bit of the list, and to be honest I think that the attributes possibly are going to evolve along with you but without your direct involvement. It doesn't make any sense that you will only be able to carry as much at level 70 as you could at level 1, but I think that they will change the system so that your pure magic user won't increase strength as quickly as your pure warrior. From what Bethesda have said, I'm basing my thought on the aspects of your character that aren't derived any other way, so speed of movement (speed), encumbrance (strength), rate of magicka recharge (willpower), and steadiness in combat (agility) will be somehow affected by perks or will be an unseen attribute increasing every level. I'm not so sure about personality.
