There's a city of Almalexia? I never knew that.

Yep. It's the capital city of Morrowind, far to the south east of Vivec city - on the mainland.

If you played Tribunal, you were inside the innermost part of the city, but due to game mechanic restrictions couldn't pass through the doors leading into the wider city.

The same deal happened with Sotha Sil. That wasn't the entire city, but the inner workshop of the Tribunal member. Divath Fyr supposedly visited the wider city, and its inhabitants.

I need something else. Do we have any information on what the city of Almalexia actually looked like? Any descriptions at TIL or anything? This is for a story and I want to be as accurate as possible....

Mournhold:

Onto Mournhold. Sometime shortly after the year 685 of the First Era, or possibly that same year, Mournhold, the 'capitol' of sorts of Indoril District, is renamed Almalexia, but the center of the city is still referred to as Mournhold. Almalexia, or the 'city of Almalexia', is also referred to as the 'city of spires', which adds to the confusion of all the names of Mournhold. Obviously, the Duke of Mournhold is always a member of Great House Indoril, and a prominent past Duke of Mournhold was Duke-Prince Indoril Brindisi Dorom, to whom the Plaza Brindisi Dorom was dedicated, due to the fact that he was killed by Mehrunes Dagon. His death was also commemorated by the statue of Almalexia and Mehrunes Dagon battling, located in the Plaza. Note that Mournhold is also known as the 'capitol of Veloth', which brings great honor and glory to Great House Indoril. Vivec and Nerevar apparently visited Mournhold (then called Mourning Hold, now called Almalexia) in person. From the Eight Lesson: "And presently Nerevar and Vivec were within sight of the capital and the Four Corners of the House of Troubles knew that it was not time to contest them. The caravan musicians made a great song of entrance and the eleven gates of the Mourning Hold were thrown wide." Mournhold is a great hub of activity, giving further glory to House Indoril.

Almalexia

The largest and oldest city in Morrowind, named for its patron goddess. Almalexia is truly an ancient city, possibly predating the Dark Elves. It is reputed to be built over the ruins of a vast Dwarven city, although the current inhabitants vigorously deny this. Here the intrepid traveler would find the center of the Tribunal cult, in the sprawling palace/temple of Mournhold, a city within the city. This is also the seat of government of the Dark Elves, where the priests of the Tribunal rule in the name of their legendary deities.

You're welcome....sadly, that doesn't tell you much.

Only that the city apparantly has spires, and eleven gates, and is built over dwarven ruins. (Daedric, too...the books don't say that but there's a Daedric ruin underneath the Dwemer ruins which are underneath the city. Confusing? I played Tribunal a lot. It's actually true...under Mournhold is Old Mournhold, which was destroyed by Mehrunes Dagon centuries ago. Underneath Old Mournhold is the Dwemer ruin of Bamz-Amschend. By blasting a hole in a wall and travelling farther down underneath Bamz-Amschend, you discover the ancient Daedric ruin, the Citadel of Myn Dhrur. None of this is related to the outward appearance of Almalexia City of course. Just a cool tidbit.)

What is a 'mayor' called in TES? I'm talking about a small to medium sized town.

It depends, of course, on the culture. In Vvardenfell, it would be either an Ashkhan (a term which applies even to House nobles), or maybe a Hetman.

Which culture of you thinking of in particular?

magistrate, most likely, but that is usually reserved for a judge.

It could be seen as "regional governor" as well.

If the language was germanic, I could suggest Burgermeister.

Which culture of you thinking of in particular?

A coastal town in Morrowind called Bosmora. It's about fifty miles southwest of Almalexia. I have no idea what its size is.
