Redsrock's Questions of Lore: Thread Two

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 12:59 pm

This is my second thread for questions, so by now I'm sure you all know what this is about. I don't have any questions just yet, but I will soon.

Can a Dunmer male and an Imperial female mate?

Yes.

After much anolysis of living specimens, the Council long ago determined that all "races" of elves and humans may mate with each other and bear fertile offspring.

Remarkable to that questions is possibly, that the child of parents of two different races will always be the race of its mother.
So in your example, the child would be an Imperial.

Could it have secondary features from the father? Physical strength, traits?

I always thought it was right. But look at Mankar, his mother was a Bosmer.

Mankar is weird, though. He also claims that his daughter is his mother and the father had some god like properties.

If that were true, Bretons would not exist.

Normally, Phenotypically that is the case. But in reality, it is not really so. "race" is not a defined thing. A child may have a mix of features and abilities from both parents, with only their cultural habits defining their "race".

Why arent the Morrowind style Daedric ruins not emulated throughout Tamriel? Is it a cultural thing or do Daedra just like a little bit of change? (excuse the pun)

I think they were built by crazy Velothi sects or something.

And if Brian S shows up with a pun for that one, I'll slap him.

They are buildings of the old Chimer religion only, and are hence only found where the Chimer settled.

I'd say part of the design element was seen in the Sigil towers--- I see all kinds of towers leaning every which way, with obscure angles in their construction.

Just not as obviously architechturally flawed.

The differnece being the Sigil Towers were built straight in the first place- ya know, if they were ever built at all.

But for the presence of statues to Azura (topless, you old timers) I'd call the ruins evidence of a REALLY well-established counter-culture dedicated to the bad daedra, or maybe an upper-class London Hell Club scene for the decadently rich.

The problem with Daedric ruins in Morrowind, is that their stone masonry would not support itself. Especially those doors, with the 45 degree canted angle! you would have to be SUPER MAN to open those doors!

Lemme check...
Ah yes, my Nerevarine can carry three hundred and twenty pounds of loot. That's like twenty greatswords. Superman, you say?

It was my impression that the Daedric forces leaking into the ruins is what gave them a twisted appearance that one could probably call "Lovecraftian". I don't think it's meant to confrom to mundane reality.

But from the dialogue itself:

When the Velothi first came to Morrowind, they worshipped their most terrible ancestors, the Daedra Lords. Legends say the Daedra Lords themselves built these great shrines, because mortals could not build anything grand enough to suit them.

It's definitely meant to look decidedly otherwordly.

They would have to *BE* otherworldly, in order for them to stand like that. Stone Masons have to worry about things like... Center of gravity, Critical pressure, wear forces, etc....

Those ruins throw 100% of that to the wind.
