Nobodycare------a border town

1
A simple introduce about what is it.
This is a mod I started to make at jan 1 2008. It's a border town named Nobodycare that set in it's own world.
It required both morrowind and bloodmoon expansion to run. this is not a lore friendly mod.
It's a rpg style mod with quest and new places to explore.

A unique look.
Some new tech have been used to achieve better effect, such as glowmap, skybox, billboardtree, animated texture.
the main style of buildings is skaal village in bloodmoon. I combined some original game resource to make more bigger feeling buildings.

Better AI behavior
In orginal game, npc just stand at one position all the time as an adiot. when they moving, you usually see they try to walk through a blockthings right in front of them.
Now, the whole town is made in interior cell. by carefully made pathgrids and scripts, npcs are no more try to walk through trees or houses. they go along their roads and know round houses to catch you.
you may even see some very logic behavior, such as guard patrol from center area to south gate, then to north gate, then to center area......and that's allready done !
by new animations used, you may see npcs eat and drink while sitting in tavern.

Concept about background and plot [may be expanded or changed in future].
4.1
What kind of world it belongs to and where it is.
This is a none magic world, much like the real world in the age of sword and castle. no elf, no dwarf and no tigerman, just human and a few legend creatures.
Nobodycare lies in the border wilderness area of two countries, north is Stonewood, south is Mixecup. These two countries are in wars. Sometimes both of them claim this border area belong to them, sometimes both of them plunder this area. The landscape around this town are mountain and deep raw forest. lots of people here are open-mind, science and other useful knowledge get respect. their culture are more advanced than a common old village. they have church as school to teach common knowledge, they know take potion and bath for their health and clean, they have farm product foods, they have contract center for easy job finding and trading, by use slaves they get their hands away from dirty, spend more time with papers and silver cup. althouth some of the local still common hunters with their common lives.
there is a new npc add in arrille's trade house in seyda neen, he is a sailor and offer travel service to this world. at a small dock south of the town, there is another npc can take you back to morrowind world.

A simple history story about this town.
Only a few years ago, they shaked in cold wind, hopeless in dark night, running in wilderness, chased by the people who ruined their life. they are the first group people of Nobodycare, not too much of them, only dozens of man and woman both in old and young. hero's blood trickled in few of them. they try to do something to stop enemys from following them, but failed. during escape in wild forest they found an ancient ruin where they think is the best place to stay, because they can go no further and enemys are near. that's a fearful night as if they know it's the last day of their life. no one know what happened in detailed about that night. when the sun rise, half people dead, but they win the battle. survivors build a siege with woods and stones base on the old ruin. more and more people come here during years. the siege grown, now become a town in border area. the leader of this place claim it as a new kingdom. they stand at their own side. they know border area is not well suit for farmer life, but some kind of business. in order to survive in border, they accept smuggling and slavery, but they are not a group of dirty hands. their law is simple: do not harm any none-slave person here, respect each other, then nobody will care about you. that kind of law attract many people come here. not only the local border people, but also smuggler, trader and even wanted man, they all want a new life. there is a rumor in border area: if you have no way to go, try Nobodycare.

about what kind of god there
there are 3 gods in this place, one as science and knowledge [that's why people use round wheel under cart, not cube wheel], the other as kind and mercy[like the real world god], another as desire[fame, wealth, power....].
the church is a place not only pray god [the common work a real world church do], but also teach limited science to anybody who seek for it [like a school].

Latest news in Nobodycare
a group of soldiers from mixcup coming, they camped in south forest just a few miles outside town. what they want? a war?
two messengers from stonewood arrived here, they showed the sound of their king---claim the ownership of this town and ask tribute and tax. will the leader of Nobodycare accept that?

Major groups there.
the company
if anyone say he work for the town, that means he work for "the company". it's the core force of this town, consist of townhall, arena, contract center, prison farm and guard base. they offer public services and protect the town, imagine it as a mini government. player may join this company. the town's mostly income is from trading and public services. they rule the place and proud as if they are nobles, but some locals don't like them.
freelancer company
a few person do what they want for fine or money. they work together to done the work that one person can't done. player may join. most members don't like people of "the company".
enemy force
enemys from north/south country, spy and army. spy may try to draw map around town and mark important place, or do some dirty job such as assasin important people. the enemy army recently is the army from south country, they camp not too far from the town which means threat. and the messagers from north country bring another forthcoming threat.
local people
hunters, local traders, common citizens.
outcomer
travellers, smugglers. the man who seek new life.
4.6
Major npcs there.
the master:
a legend man who usually do not show in public. when he show up, he wear a mask or helm. according to the figure in people's memory, his is a thin man, have less muscles than a common villager.
his age is about 30-35 years old. he didn't gave people a long speech. he named laws and his order with simple words. simple as stone but you can not move it a bit. he lives in his manor at higher part of the town[that big building at west]. only the man he pick/called can see him. some people think there must be many treasture in his manor, but even the most dangers wanted man do not dare to try stealing. it seems no one know too much about him, even old man can not tell too much story about him. some people respect him as a living god, some people fear him. there is also a rumor say he just a puppet. also a rumor say he is sick and dying.
under master there are two powerful men, guard captain and town mayor.
lypire
guard captain who lead army, he is a strong young man. he lead army smashed enemy many times, have great fame in border. due to the silence style life of the master, he is more welcome in many people's heart. when enemy coming, he is the reason why people still drink with each other. people trust him and cheer to him. few people wonder why he havn't replace the master, but they do not dare to talk that in public. he lead the army, so some people think he is the real and most powerfull man in this town.
town mayor
who manage common things, an old man wear nice cloth and speak like gentleman in public, he do things as it come. his speech craft is not bad and he is rich. sometime he perform long speech like a president. he manage the income of this town, some traders like him. although he like to talk, but when talk about the master, he use words very carefully, not too much, just show respect.

the boss of freelancer company. an old man.
velkaran
civilized local potion seller. male, a member of freelancer company.
vraptor
kind local hunter. male, a member of freelancer company.
lasskar
strong local rough man. male, a member of freelancer company.
Maholix
noble knight, male, a friend of freelancer company.
Amelia
nice female hunter, well at marksmanship, live in outdoor, a friend of freelancer company.

bad guard, a member of the company, see more details below.
Wolfgar
nord male hunter or guard.
eva and cathy
2 sisters that have no parents, they run a misc items shop. eva is velkaran's girl friend. cathy is the younger one. maholix try to aid these 2 by money but they did not accept that. these 2 woman live by their self.
stard
arena is the place consist of blood, cheers, scream, someone happy and someone sad. someone's life end there and someone's life get a new start there.
you may bet on red team or blue team there. 24hours at your service. there are 2 major services , one is bet on fight, the other is slave trading.
the arena belongs to the company. the master of arena is a man named stard whom offer bet on fight service. he allways there. some people think he lives as a dogleg of the company.
but he think life treat him not bad, he arrange gladiators bleed for the money he need hand in to the company, sometimes he pick a nice slave woman for a good night. he think he work for the company and no one dare to do him any harm. he also do not care his figure in people's eyes. he think he got the right positon in this town and that make him live happy. he enjoy the king feeling in this small space Although he know when the real king come he just a dogleg.

this mod under develop at jan 1 2008. many content added or changed from then. feel free post idea or suggestion.
if anyone still want to be an npc in this town , feel free to post your info about what class, gender, and maybe dialogues. any quest idea or dialogues about what you want to say are welcome. you may say what's in the dialuge window of your character ingame, I may change it a bit to better fit quests and other concept, but may not completely redone what you say. imagine you are in this town, your character may like what you like, hate what you hate and reflect your personality. of cause you may also make your fantasy character. here is a list of person that allready arrived.
5.1
Vraptor: local hunter, kind man. according to what he said in 2008, he may like to share a hunting story about he and a boar. that dialogue allready added.
5.2
Velkaran: local potion seller, culture man. his ingame house completed.
5.3
Maholix: he is a lonely but good man. He was trained as a knight. he is a noble who secretly aids those in distress like Zorro. he have two life, live as a noble in public and bring justice to bad man as Zorro without anyone recognized him. His grandfather is a brutal and insidious man. at a point they may face each other with blade in hand. his grandfather maybe a member of enemy force and have done a lot bad things years. He will not mention his grandfather to anyone who he does not trust however, because these memories make him feel awkward. his grandfather's action is a threat to his noble figure. some people may dislike him if they found he have such a bad grandfather, or even suspect he is a partner of his grandfather. he goes to church to pray often. he doesn't need fame and he is allready a rich man. he came for adventure. He appears to spend money freely, but is actually quite calculating with where and how he spends it. Is a little loose with the amount, but not greatly wasteful. For example, you may see him buying drinks often, or visiting vendors but he's actually doing this to be around people so that he can listen in on them; though he may get more than he actually needs. Dislikes the company, for he does not trust them. He thinks they are hiding something, but continues to work with them for his own benefit, pretending he has no problem with them. Sides more with the guild due to his secret lifestyle, but does so privately. Does not trust the guild either, but is more prone to believing them, as he sees them as people who actually work hardest for a living. The Company Uneasy about him, as they dislike the freelance guild, but still include him because he has status and money. he treats most the locals with indifference, except for those who he has dealings with. Favors traders over more common folk, partly because he finds them to be useful more often. Likes hunters as well, but will treat hunters he does not know with suspicion at first. (wants to ensure they aren't bandits). he pays little attention to travelers unless they do something notable (or are in great need of help) He dislikes smugglers, even publicly, because he views them as thugs; but will leave them alone unless they cause trouble. One does not get rich with pure honesty however, so in rare cases even he may strike deals with the nicer smugglers. he'd be good at making a number of basic yet practial potions. After all, though it's "just a hobby" of some rich guy in public, it would actually come in handy for that secret life of his, and of course a knight would be interested in healing arts. Plus a traveler has to know how to patch himself up. He be more skilled and would know more than a usual noble normally would. For more advanced potions though, he'd confer with Velkaran, occasionally helping him find things he needs in hopes for services and training.
5.4
Sulac sol: bad guard. according to what he said in 2008, he may take bribes from bandits and turn a blind eye to them harassing traders. his is a mixcup[imperor race], used to belong to a big House in mixcup, but was wrongly accused of commiting a crime, and expelled. Angered, he murdered the accuser and was forced to flee from mixcup to here. With his warrior background, he quickly gained a position as a town guard. However, his anger has left him a little wrong in the head, and he have some delusion that by causing harm or allowing that harm to befall others is a way to strike back against the world.

Catlover: according to what he said in 2008, he is a nord male hunter or guard with his hunting dog. the name of his character is Wolfgar.

I figured out another way to make player see mountains around the town. It's simple and will be improved later.

Yes, there will be a public release , but not too soon. the outdoorlook have been finished 60%, and I want make an alive town with unique functions and quests and a lot of things, so it may take a long time for a finall release.

Update:

1
replace the guardposts with a better FPS friendly mesh. before i use the seyda neen light house's top, now i use a dock mesh.

delete the tavern's look and replace with a better one, i just copy the tavern in caldera and add some windows and a courtyard behind the tavern, will be improved later.

change the wall texture around the town to the texture of redhouse in bloodmoon. it is a dark red color wood. and i think it is better fit the outdoorlooking.

do a little of this and a little of that to detail the town. it will be better and better and better......

at the mean time, I hope the outdoorlook could be finished tommorow so that i can start make pathgrid and add some npcs then watch them walk around the whole town.

update

1
before i use the caldera tavern now i use my own one, it's better match the outdoorlook. the texture is a bit lighter, i will change it darker and add a roof later. this means completely delet the tavern arean and make a new one. it is a wood type building and it's allready done. I placed some wood fence wall there, and it looks lovely.

add stone wall to the center area[the place hold townhall and guard home and lighttower], so you will not see a standard cube shape, it add reallism.

now the outdoorlook are 80% complete. what is the other 20% ?tell me what you like to see: a floweryard or just some buildings like the others. or others, you may show your advise.

I allready think about that, and yes, I can do it and it will be done. I think a brown color wood texture may be OK, or a dark stone, which is your prefer to see?

I will show screanshot each time I make enough change. now I'm thinking about the "20%" part of the town, what it should be? show your opinons.

retexture the stair mesh and the center-area's base mesh to better match with each other. now, they have a dark red color and it looks right fit the stone and other around buildings. the texture i use are stock bloodmoon texture, so it fit the others well. the stair use two texture, one is the dark red another is the stone texture used in the stock skar house's base.

I tryed to edit the bloodmoon windows's mesh and add more windows with glow map , so that it will glow at night, but I failed. i will try later.

About the 20% I said before, it still not desided. now i'm in tend to add some fence to the north gate area.

the prossise seems slow , but the outdoorlook are better and better each day. I can feel it can be done in a short time.
may be I will release a demo when the whole outdoorlook complete.

for the billboard tree, that's the only way I find to make a red tree.

if I do not use the billboard , then I must have a new real mesh of tree. there is no tree's meshes in stock game looks like what i want. the trees in bloodmoon is good, but their shape are not Aceraceaedie trees , that mean it can not be a Aceraceaedie trees by retexture it. so , the only way to make a Aceraceaedie tree is completly make a new mesh. at the meain time , i think that's beyond my ability.

and

if I continue to go the billboard way. two subway to enhance the look, one is make a more detail texture for the tree but it can not remove the billboard look. the other way is use the better billboard mesh made by Vality, that has a real root mesh with billboard leaves. but i have not get the permission to use it. so this may be a dead coner. I also thought about make my mod depend on that Vality's mod to run, but if i do so, i still have no right to retexture it. so the redwood became greenwood. and if i replace the texture the one Vality used, all trees he/she placed will be changed to red. I do not want to do it and I'm sure i will not do it.

so, from what I see so far, I can do nothing with it.

lower the tavern so that player can have a better view from center area.

about the red trees, i checked every tree mesh in morrowind bsa and retextured one and resize the leaves 2 times biger than before.
the result is not good, the look still not fit my taste. and I get about 30 fps drop at the most fps hit area.
so , this way is a no no. I allready restored the esp file before the changes made. later i will try again to see if i can make my own version of speedtree mesh use the bloodmoon tree's bark.

I finally figured out how to make mesh glow. i made a few new windows by retextue the stock one and add glow effect.
the problem is : the window glow all the time[include day time], i don't know how to make it only glow at night. but i can write a script to switch it with a normal one. and the effect it looks doesn't fit the around envirment. so, wether add it or not , i still think about it.

Now that I have released my final version of the trees, you have permission to use my trees and retexture them. To avoid replacing all my trees, copy the meshes and rename them, then add them into the CS with the new names, so that they don't overwrite the default trees. Then you can retexture them without worrying about them replacing others. I'd like to say thank you again to Vality. I allready changed all my early trees to yours. and I scaled down it to 70%size and retextured it both the bark and the leaves. the bark use a dark brown color, the leaves i simply changed your one to red and sharpened the alpha "carnall"[forgive my poor english] so that player can see more things behind the leaves , such as the bark and the sky and so on.......to me, it add more reallistic feeling. the result is so nice that i'm not intend to completely retexture the leaves to a more Aceraceaedie look.

about the 20% area that i have not finished, I allready have a plan about what it will be. i hope it will be the most beatyfull place in this town. here is want i think, i want put some statue along with some fence wall and the end is a stone temple kind building. i think the golden saint mesh can be a good start and i add wings and change the gesture to it use nifscope. i allready made a fore wings golden saint but the problem is CTD in game. I do not know what's wrong with the mesh , it shows correctly in nifscope. then i try to just move the originall mesh's wingspart[the part on the helm] and resize it and move it to back and it works fine both in game and in nifscope. but i want to change the wings to a more open look and it can not be done this way[i allready used the "trasform-edit-rotate" function and can not get a perfect effect]
but......I still have an idea how to recive the effect, by make the wings a stand alone mesh so that i can place it whatever angle and position i want. then use these two mesh[wing mesh and normall saint mesh with gesture changed] to build a one statue look.

Now that I have released my final version of the trees, you have permission to use my trees and retexture them. To avoid replacing all my trees, copy the meshes and rename them, then add them into the CS with the new names, so that they don't overwrite the default trees. the first new creature in this mod has been finished. yes, i figuerd out where the problem cause in my early post.
here is a screenshot show both the creature version and the statue version. it have 4 wings. about the statue version i failed to change the gesture, because the two arms are one single part. but, they worked well so far.
left is statue, right is creature.

change the hill's texture from green one to a stock bm rock texture for better fit the view. because, i do not like mix red color with green color, i think that looks urly. now , to me, it's better than before.

about the 20% outdoor area. i change the looks time by time in order to build an amazing look that players may never forget since they saw it first time. it will be finished soon.
