Reeking cave... unfindable...

Post » Wed Jun 06, 2012 2:20 am

Hi,

I have 23 stones.
I do not remember me taking the stone up in the thalmor embassy...it is long ago..
Wiki tells about a patch and reeking cave just north of the embassy...
I went north until the sea and back: no reeking cave to be found.

Is there another way to check as where this last stone could be?
Or how to check if the patch is installed?

Reeking Cave doesn't have a map marker, but it's the same cave you run through during your escape from the Thalmor Embassy. Go to the embassy run around it at the bottom of the base of the Hill/Mountain the embassy is placed upon. About North of the entrance of the embassy the cave is located. Also a tip, check the close-in map and you might see the entrance if you look around the embassy.

Yes, it should be, provided you have the latest patch.

If you enter the Reeking Cave, and make your way to the back, you should see the stone as plain as can be on a table or altar or some substantial horizontal uplifting surface. Beats having to go all the way into Elenwen's Solar.

I tried to go back in, but one needs a key to enter the buildings..
There is also an invisible wall preventing to pass further on the terrain next to the fence..

The dead conjurrer in the reeking cage lays in the snowtrolls lair near the wall... there was some stuff there...but no stone..

If you're on the PC, there's a mod that adds quest markers for the stones; you could use that to help verify which one you are missing.

Are you running version 1.4? The stone won't be there unless you have the latest version. You can check your game version by looking at the bottom left of your 'system' screen iirc.

If you have the 1.4 patch, the stone is just to slightly left and above the dead conjuror. There's a satchel, and a skill book, and the stone.

You don't need a key to enter the cave's exit. Just find it, enter the cave, and look around for the gem. You may have to deal with a troll in the process.

Well it wasn't... maybe i took it from the embassy earlier...
I started the quest after i kinda did everything else... and had already 11 stones in possesion before starting it....
..played couple of hundred hours...do not remember each move exactly...

Yes i know that....to go inside the buildings of the embassy you need a key, those locks are unpickable, only the guard barracks are pickable.
I got inside the fense by luring a guard out of the gate: master lock changed every lockpick that broke..

You probably took it while playing the diplomatic imunity quest.. (don't know the exact name of the quest from my head, but is mainline)

I found the stones and went for the crown.
The entrance to the chamber however is blocked by a big rock, that crushed some people ages ago, as the turned into skeletons..
A movie on youtube shows that entrance without the rock blocking the entrance..
Is there a way to open/unblock the entrance?

Oddball, sorry I can't answer your question, but please could you tell us if you used the stones location mod and if so did it help?

Yes it helped.
There was only one stone left but the marker showed up and it was there..(in this case in markarth in the dwemer museum)
I guess it will work also in cases where there are more stones to be found...

Thanks, I have lost track of which stones I have picked up (the vital piece of paper has gone missing) so I was wondering about the mod.

Same thing happened to me; I lost track after 18 stones and wasn't about to go revisit every location to see which ones I'd picked up. The mod showed markers for the remaining 6.
