Reference for Edibles in Morrowind

Like the names of these . Will have to find the Tamriel Codex and sus out the word roots . Might add to your list then , Debi ! Actually , I just did all that ! here's some more :
Fal'cha ( Snow Tea ) .... Holly Berries ... Resist Frost ....Weakness to Fire
Bos'cha ( Forest Tea ) ... Comberry leaves ...Detect Animal .... Drain Strength
Garlas'cha ( Cave Tea ) ... one of the mushrooms or bloat ( Luminous Russula although poisonous , has Night eye as an effect so this could be one for Night eye enhancing ) Night Eye ....Weakness to Poison
Ouanda'cha ( River Tea ) ... ? something that provides swift swim as an effect

I took your ideas and tweaked them a bit. Unfortunately, the only ingredients with Night Eye are animal parts (pelts, eyeballs, hides, hearts). Luminous Russula has Water Breathing and Violet Coprinus has Water Walking. Here's what I came up with so far:

Fal'cha ... Holly leaves/seeds ... Resist Frost ... Weakness to Fire
Bos'cha ... Ampoule pod seeds ... Detect Animal ... Drain Willpower
Oua'cha ... Golden Sedge petals/seeds (Imported) ... Swift Swim ... Drain Magicka

I'm still thinking about mushroom tea.

Thanks for the ideas!

That's a good one, too. It cures Blight Disease.

OK, here's an idea for mushroom tea. Neither Luminous Russula nor Violet Coprinus has a fourth effect, so I'm hypothesizing that if they're brewed together you get Night Eye. To counteract the Poison, they have to be brewed with a generous amount of shaved Corkbulb Root.

Gar'cha ... luminous russula, violet coprinus, corkbulb root ... Night Eye ... Drain Fatigue

Oh bravo Debi ! That's excellently well tweaked ! I've been too busy ( RL ) to think much more about tea ( including fleshing out the ones I'd come up with ! ) so many thanks for doing that ! And the suggestion of a tea room is well received here too ! I had considered it in association with expanding Pelagiad , but I'll be happy with where ever you want to place it ! Is the Lizards Head still talking to you ?

You know , I only needed to say the above once ! Oh well , I guess impatience will have its draw-backs !
Actually , if one of the Admin team would care to remove this post and the next ( also a multiple ! ) I would be ever so grateful ! Thanks !

Hey CrazyGreggy! I'd cut back on the coffee if I were you. :D

I was planning on putting a tea room in the Ald Skar Inn as an adjunct to a fine dining experience (whenever I get around to doing it!).

Yes, I think The Lizard's Head will be the next mod. In addition to the basic dining aspect, there will be a little story the player can get involved in. I'm not saying any more than that. :)

Actually, Huleeya is in the Black Shalk Cornerclub. According to UESPWiki, there's not much going on in The Lizard's Head other than a trainer and Ennbjof, who tells you an interesting story. I think this place needs a little help. A little food, a little drink, a little mystery...

D'oh ! That's right ! Gives you an idea of how memorable those two taverns are for me ! Anything that adds a distinguishing characteristic will be greatly appreciated ! A little food , a little drink , a little mystery seems perfect !

Started thinking about what nuts and dried trail food might be available to the earnest adventurer . Could be an interesting little addition to your expanding taverns range Debi . Certainly dried food would be a simple thing to " make " but if we take the premise that Cyrodiil supplies a percentage of imported foods then we can at least play with the idea of adding dried apples and berries , add NOM as a source of foods and we get dried pears as well . Nuts though will take a little more thought ( it seems illogical that the Ashlanders would not have their own trail foods and so would have some nuts or what ever . ) as we don't really have much to run with but I will venture that there should be Almonds ( or something like them ) , Walnuts ( actually walnut wood was included in the crafting mod Morrowind Complete ) and Pecans , Chestnuts too . Perhaps there would be some sort of native variants of peanut , macadamia , brazilnuts etc something like them , just not them , if you see what I mean . I'll flesh it out and add more later .

Alright , here's a curly one for the purists : as I suggested in the above post , it seems illogical that the Dunmer would not have their own trail foods and from that idea sprang the concept of nuts . I have been giving it some consideration and came up with the following : the generic word for nut is " bal " which means stone . I would like to denote edibility too so if anyone has a suggested word I'll incorporate it . Running with Bal , I came up with the following :
Aka'bal - Dragon nuts : being the fruit of the ashlandic tree ( most of which are either dead or dormant thanks to the Red Mountains continued activity )
Sadrith'bal - Mushroom nuts : being the hard spores of some of the mushroom trees .
Kogo'bal - Unbreakable nuts : an unusual nut that requires high temperatures to shatter the outer shell
Ruhn'bal - Hearth nuts : the kernel of Kogo'bal after they have been placed beneath the hearth stone of a cook fire to heat and shatter the shell .
Mora'bal - Forest nuts : something akin to our own Walnuts from the eastern side of Vvardenfell
Gah'bal - Great nuts : could be an introduced or imported nut that looks very much like our own coconuts !
That's the list so far , what do people think ?
Cheers Debi and all
Greg
PS Was looking for a suitable word to denote cooking and food related pursuits and came up with something that may be OK : Ruhnjul - Hearth Benefit ( shortened form of Aruhnjulan ) .

Cheers Greg.

After pondering your nutty ideas for a bit :) , I have the following comments.

* When I'm looking to create a new word, I usually take something familiar and change it slightly, as if the new word were derived from the other word. In this case, I think I'd use "bol", which is similar to "bal", but is its own word.

* Regarding the apostrophe, I don't know what the original intent was, but I think of it as indicating a pause (like between two consonants) and/or a rough throaty sound. In order to avoid overusing the apostrophe, I think in this case I wouldn't use it.

* When making compound words, it's important to say them out loud and see how easy they are to say. In this case I think it would be nice to have easily flowing words.

Here's my recommendation:

Akabol
Sadribol
Kogobol
Ruhbol or Ruhnbol
Morabol
Gahbol

"Ruhnjul" is good for cooking. For references to cooks or homemakers, the suffix -iit could be used. According to the Imperial Library, the definition is "something one does, vocation". Since ruhn means "home (lit. hearth-hall)", a possible word for a person could be "Ruhniit" (home worker or hearth worker). "Ruhnmer" would also be possible.

Bol sounds good . I like the suggested changes so lets leave them at that . Rhuniit could be a word that refers to specific people ; not just a generic word like house wife or home maker but an honorific . They could be the Ashlanders wise women or one of their offsiders that deal with the specifics of food/craft , home/craft ( wish I could find a dunmeri word for craft ! Any suggestions ? ). I kind of considered Ruhnjul as a more encompassing term than cooking ; consider the crafts that would be needed for the self-sufficiency of the Ashlanders - making and refining oils for lighting , food and medicinal uses , preparing skins for clothing , yurt making and general usage , manufacture of homewares ( not just plates and bowls but cooking utensils etc ) . Oh and it doesn't necessarily have to be a term used for just women , it can be used for men who specialize in such crafting . So , for me Ruhnjul was a more general term for the beneficial hearth or Hearth Craft . Hows that ?

EDIT : Ruhnmer is good to ! And probably clears up any gender specificity . Good one Debi !

I like it. And Ruhnmer could be the generic term for any homemaker or cook.

( wish I could find a dunmeri word for craft ! Any suggestions ? )

I'll have to think about that one.

EDIT: When in doubt, use Babel Fish. How about "korav"? (I tweaked the Russian word for craft.)

So , for me Ruhnjul was a more general term for the beneficial hearth or Hearth Craft . Hows that ?

That's great!

So given those definitions, would this be an accurate sentence?:

"She's a Ruhniit who is an expert in Ruhnjul."

Korav is great ! Brilliant even ! Glad you like the definition . And yes , " She's a Ruhniit who is an expert in Ruhnjul " sounds appropriate if not slightly naughty .
