Reference from Van Buren in Fallout New Vegas

Post » Tue Nov 25, 2008 10:05 pm

It doesn't simply re-use SOME ideas from Van Buren. It uses almost ALL of them.

No, it uses a few of the factions and characters, as well as one (very changed) location, but none of the main plot. Unless there's a copy of New Vegas with New Plague, Tibbets, BOMB-001, Boulder Dome, Nursery, Dr. Presper and ODYSSEUS in it. It's not the copy I've played, though.

The triad balance of power (BoS/Caesar/NCR) was reduced to just Caesar and NCR as well.

Actually Caesar's Legion was for all intents and purposes cut from VB, save for a few encounters with low ranking soldiers, and references in the Hanged Man's backstory.

They were supposedly taken out because VB was getting too big, and they were gonna' have a large role in FO4 instead.

Or now become a series of "off-shoot" Fallout games by Obsidian!

That is if Van Buren was the FO3 that was released.

Legion was not "major" in Van Buren from the looks of it, and was going to be the main focus in the game that would take place after Van Buren.
Meaning: Fallout 1 led up to events which led to Fallout 2 which led up to events which led to Fallout 3 (Van Buren) which led up to events which would lead to Fallout 4.

Ah.... Now I Understand. But the Fallout 3 developed by Bethesda is a Spin off of the series. And FNV is the continuos of the saga

I'd consider F:NV a demo of the original Fallout 3.
Neither FO3 or New Vegas are worthy of being called The Real Fallout 3.

Really.

New Vegas is the best out of a bad situation.
Great game.
Even fantastic.
But it is in no way as good as Van Buren was going to be.

I was poking around in the Vault looking at the stuff from Van Buren, and it got me to wondering if the http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Daughters_of_Hecate will turn up in one of the DLCs.

That'd be cool, but not sure what capacity they would be presented in since the Vipers are already in New Vegas without them.

I'd rather the central conflict would've been between them and the Legion, rather than the NCR and the Legion. They kind of seem like the antithesis of each other.

Yeah, F:NV got his inspiration with VB but you can't say it is VB.

-The main campaigns have nothing in common, VB is about some ghoul "prophet" who wants to create a second nuclear holocaust and the PC is a "prisoner".
-Lots of stuff related to VB campaign are cut (and propably will never appear again, a shame) : the born ghouls, lots of locations, etc, etc...
-Not to mention that "space" part.

The good thing is, VB had so much content that you could make like 2-3 actual Fallout games along with some dlcs, let's hope for it, I would really love to meet that Belle chick (and the consequences you can have with the PC).
Let's hope Obsidian/Bethesda to bring us all that stuff and if they can't...well, let's just say I 'm happy enough to had the chance to see, and play, Van Buren demo.

Jean-Baptise Cutting, A.K.A the big scary black guy that "tested weapons" and went down like a fat girl when I killed him was meant to be in VB.

Pretty much...

Actually there are a few major changes but all in all we are playing Fallout: NvEaWn VbEuGrAeSn

It doesn't simply re-use SOME ideas from Van Buren. It uses almost ALL of them. The only things that have changed are the locations and most of the stuff from Mr House. The triad balance of power (BoS/Caesar/NCR) was reduced to just Caesar and NCR as well. Oh yeah and the Helios One facility I think came out of the idea to have the PC travel to a spaceborne weapons platform.

No, there's a massive amount of content from Van Buren that isn't even mentioned in passing in New Vegas. The Daughters of Hecate, the Twin Mothers, Diana, the New Plague, etc. etc. etc.

In Van Buren, the B.O.M.B. orbital platform was the endgame scenario, rather than just some side-quest like ARCHIMEDES, and the player was going to be forced to decide which communities were going to be utterly destroyed by an unstoppable nuclear strike.

which svckED at the time and svckS now

:cryvaultboy: :cryvaultboy: :cryvaultboy:

Thats your opinion ,FO1 and FO2 is still better than any new Fallout game

Go on, ask for someone about those games, they dont svckED, because if they svckED then why Bethesda bothered to bought the game itself???

New Vegas is very different then Van Buren

Van Buren was to cover and area of four states, Nevada, Utah, Colorado and Arizona. New Vegas is only southern Nevada

Every faction from Van Buren in New Vegas is different and have different goals. Maybe not NCR but every other one.

Same with locations that were to be in VB that are in NV, Hoover Dam is very different.

VB was to have many vehicles.

Harold was to be in it and no he was not to be a giant freak tree.

Many factions that were to be in Van Buren are not in FO NV

Story is different

No mutant cannibals and many other creatures that were to be in it.

It was to take place 30 plus years before the events of FO NV

There was a Ghoul 'prophet' in VB though. He just wasn't the main antagonist.
