Refresh rate and FPS issue

Post » Sat Dec 24, 2016 8:28 pm

Hello,

I'm using a 243V5 Phillips monitor in [email protected]

With default vsync I see lots of horizontal lines going up and down my screen @ 58-60fps, same issue with Vsync off.

I installed a FPS limiter, with vsync on @ 30 fps I see less lines, and at 15 fps I see no more lines, the game looks nice, but it's 15 fps...

I tried running the game with every option turned on/off in low quality to ultra.

I don't have any issues with any other game.

I don't have this issue with the standard edition.

I have a i5 4460, 16gb, gtx 970.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Regards,

Diez

Yes and Yes. Is VGA the problem?

Gonna switch it tomorrow, I got 2 monitors, 1 on VGA and 1 on DVI.

My best one is on VGA because I don't know for what reason one of them didn't work the either way around.

What happens without ENB? What is the VGA monitor? Are you using an adapter? VGA to DVI?

Hi,

Thank you all for your interest and for asking the right questions:).

I'm using 2 monitors :

Philips 243v5 with VGA to DVI connector (no adapter) - used for gaming & work

An old Samsung SyncMaster 223BW DVI to mini-HDMI adapter - used for work & browsing.

I was to cheap to buy an HDMI cable so I should have used my Philips with a DVI connection but for I don't know what reason my VGA connection wouldn't work on the Samsung monitor, however it would always work the other way around.

Seeing your questions yesterday made me take my HDMI cable from work just to test with with HDMI-mini-HDMI Philips and DVI-DVI Samsung, and guess what , it works with no issues and my Skyrim remastered never looked better.

I would still like to understand why it did the weird horizontal lines, I was under the impression that a VGA connection was able to run [email protected], and my frame rate was constantly at 60 fps.

EDIT: Without ENB i had the lines, with ENB i had the lines, only limiting the frame rate to 15fps from ENB made the screen clear sharp.

Thanks again for your help :).

Regards,

Diez

VGA should be able to output [email protected] It is generally recommended to avoid anolog (VGA) output because its prone to interference. This may have caused your horizontal lines flickering.

Note: The GTX 970 has two DVI connections: DVI-I and DVI-D. You cannot use a VGA monitor on a DVI-D connection because it only supports digital output (without an active adapter). DVI-I supports anolog and Digital outputs.

I don't know why Skyrim was the only application causing issues...

Sounds like screen tearing. If the game can't maintain a steady framerate you'll likely get this. ENB's are notoriously framerate heavy SSAO and DoF especially.

Which monitor is being used for Skyrim? Philips or the Samsung? VGA to DVI? That is an adapter. Sounds like you are using 2 adapters?
