Regarding The Infernal City *Major Spoilers*

Post » Thu Feb 03, 2011 8:10 pm

I just have two questions.

1. Did Bethesda already come out and say that this was canon?

2. What clues were given that Morrowind was going to be destroyed?

I know the moon was floating in Vivec but I didn't think anything of it or if it fell it would destroy all of Morrowind. I should probably mention I haven't beaten it yet just decided to go back and give it a chance, but if they just blow it up kind of makes me not want to play it plus the Dumner are my favorite race so thats like a double negative.

It's canon, yes.

Vivec froze the moon with its original intent, intact. The impetus of the moon remained. That was prophesy.

Do you have a link of where they say it? I'm really just trying to prove that it's not because I don't want to believe it

This may seem off the wall, but the destruction of Vvardenfell can be seen as further evidence that the Judeans (under Roman occupation) were among the inspiration for the Dunmer. I don't claim credit for this idea, after the speculation in this forum over the years, but look at the parallels. A people who are led to a new homeland by a Moses-like figure. A proud race of traditionalists who cut a separate peace with an empire to retain their own temples, religious courts, etc. A people who see their homeland destroyed and who are scattered into diaspora.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Dunmer start trickling back into the remains of Morrowind by the time of TES V, say a century or two later. (The game has already been rumored to take place a couple of centuries after the fall of the Septims.)

As to your first question. I wasn't sure how much of the area was destroyed, but it seemed to be quite a bit of devastation, and I agree, it svcks.

As to your second. *SPOILERS* The two main characters are seemingly bound to the Infernal City now, unable to leave. If you're referring to the fight with the Big Bad, I have NO clue other than the Big Bad seemingly won. This author sure has a "way" with words. *SPOILERS*

That's not really confirming it's canon all it's confirminf is the book is real. That's like saying the Mario Bros. Movie was canon because it was based of the Mario Bros world. I'm actually starting to get less upset by this if they actually do something cool with it and not just destroy Morrowind for no reason other than to make it sound bad.

[And other quotes that I'm too tired to put them here.]

I think FearTheLiving got it. Just as we did. Repeating the same thing contemptuously without daring explain it doesn't make your speech sounder. It only makes you look like a fool trying to talk about something he doesn't know.

@FearTheLiving : Vivec announced that the moon should fall if his people stopped loving him in one of his sermons. Have a look to the other posts of the topic, I think it's written somewhere.

Yeah thanks I took his advice and just asked an admin which they replied saying.

Yes... the author of the book worked with our game designers in creating the story for the game.

So thanks for helping me. I'm a bit disappointed, but I guess I'll get over it. Plus it may end up being better in the long run and making the Dunmer race more developed and more interesting.

I said the fall was prophesied in my first post, as you can see. It's all in the spirit of play, sugar. If I'm contemptuous, what of it?

Let the Moderator team decide. Call me on it.

You could've just pointed him to the many in-game books poking at the fact that the moon would fall.

I don't remember which book said it, but in one Vivec said

"The moon will remain frozen as long as the people of vivec keep their faith in me. When that faith fades, so will the power holding the moon."

And since Vivec dissapears in the events of Oblivion, theres nothing stopping it from falling, in reality.

He wasn't asking for a source on the moon's fall, he wanted confirmation the book was canon. These are slightly different.

At the end of the book it ended like it did because with the other book coming it has something to build off of, honestly it wasn't too confusing just read it again. And think about if people from morrowind go to Skyrim it sets up the next game nicely

That would be a nice touch. I mean come on if they all just moved there im sure they aren't all wealthy, so the majority of them should be in slums.

I'm happy because as someone has already said, this makes the dunmer even more mysterious....

Very much so, it should have a pretty good conflict in the next game since lets just say Nords and Dunmer don't get along too well.

I hadn't thought about that, that would be a very good reason for Morrowind being blown to bits :P
