Regarding Violence in the game

Post » Thu Sep 09, 2010 7:14 pm

I know the violence in the game is not supposed to be over the top like Fallout, but has anyone heard if the game will feature destructible bodies? I've been wondering about this, and while I don't want it to be as easy to decapitate someone as in FO, I think that'd be cool.

In a recent Norwegian article they talk about it
- Can you cut off the limbs of your enemies?

- How should I answer this? Yes, there is a kind of system, but not like in Fallout 3

The translation was "cripple," not "cut off."

I am guessing the most violent thing will probably be the head smashing in the trailer, I really doubt there would be dismembering

Todd said they're playing with dismemberment. Don't expect anything like Ninja Gaiden though.

As much as I love violence and gore in games, for some odd reason it doesn't feel right putting it in an Elder Scrolls game.

Agreed, Dismemberment would seem very out of place in my opinion. Maybe it would just take a bit of getting used to..

Every time this thread comes up I feel the need to post "if it's too brutal I hope I can choose a graphics mode not much worse than Oblivion." I have no desire to see graphic violence. Real life violence is horrific. Game play violence is meant for fun. I respect that some people like more realistic violence, but I don't want to have to see it.

Yeah, but the norwegian word "fjerne" which is what was translated into cripple, means remove.

I found it cool the first time I chain-sawed somebody in gears 2 with gore on, and I looked at the body. You could actually see his innards. But ya, would ruin the feel of TES for me, if I need a shooter/gore fix I'll play some gears.

You can turn off the gore in Gears of War? My respect for that series just went up. Providing options for players is a good thing.

If you got a weak stomach I think you're waiting for the wrong game mate... maybe fable is more suited for you?

I don't want the minority of people who don't like a bit of blood to ruin it for the majority of the tes society...

well if a majority doesnt want the game that violent then why would the devs waste time making it, if you want it violent then the minority (who own computer and maybe consoles) could download a mod

I think it would be cool with dismemberment, not over the top like Fallout that wouldn't suit the game at all in my opinion.
And I agree that you should be able to turn it of, but I sure will play with it on if they add it :)

No a minority doesn't want a game that violent. I don't think you understand. Is american not your first language?

Did you read what you quoted? That's precisely what I did. (Edit: Perhaps you were responding to someone else in that instance.)

I really don't understand the "maybe this game isn't for you" type of replies. This series has NEVER been about graphic blood and gore (and no I don't consider low resolution sprites a good point). Just because some people have such blood lust doesn't suddenly make it a part of TES. As I said (but you somehow missed while quoting me) I am not 100% against there being realistic gore, but I don't want to have to see it if it's in.

Yes I was commenting on someone else. I thought that would of been obvious due to my double post. Otherwise I would of edited it in to what I was explaining to you... does that make sense to you?

The double post didn't reference who you were responding to, and yeah it makes sense because I edited it in when I noticed. I stand by my comment that the series was never about graphic gore though. If you want that option I respect it, but those of us who are TES fans that don't want to see it aren't suddenly going to play Fable instead all because some people want graphic gore. I'll never understand it when people make a comment like that, as if the open world and freedom to explore and the richly detailed lore are all nothing compared to the need of the ability to... see blood and severed limbs and such. I don't understand that reasoning at all.

I always maintain that options are a good thing, so the more options the better provided they don't detract from the scope of the game in my opinion.

That's an odd thing to say. "Graphic Violence" has never been a defining attribute of Elder Scrolls games in the past.

 Glad to hear it. Epic knows options. Bethesda does too, but sometimes they don't go far enough in the right places. I hope Skyrim includes the dismemberment and gore appropriate to the game, and includes the option to turn it off.

Makes sense on skeletal enemies and zombies and possibly on leather/cloth wearing npcs.
