In regards to a particular companion [Major Spoiler]

Post » Thu Nov 26, 2015 2:00 am

Part of me hated the fact that I had no choice but to play along with that disrespectful little punk (granted, I'm pretty much incapable of taking evil options in games, but I like there to be a choice), but another part of me didn't mind him, as he came off to me as a pragmatic and decent leader of Lamplight (some of his dialogue is charisma-locked, and casts his policies of kicking grownup lamplighters out in a new light).

Either way, both of those parts of me of me expects that the disease he's looking to cure is "the old".

I didn't hate the dude.....actually I'm happy about the nod to Fallout 3 and look forward to see how he turned up. I bet the same people hating on him are the same ones crying about not being able to kill kids.

I thought Power Armor was something only the protagonist could use. What you can do is put him in charge of some settlement that is out of the way and you never plan on going back to. You never have to see them again and doesn't require any work. Of course, there is always setessential 0 if you are on the PC.

Well that settles it, I'm going to find some way to feed him to a deathclaw.

I prefer a more subtile approach:

Me: "Hey Rob! You know...I do have sometimes some sort of visions."

Rob: "What do you mean?"

Me: "You know I see someone elses adventures. It's like having a memory...remembering something."

Rob: "And what did you see?"

Me: "I saw you, as a kid. A Town called little lamplight. And you stole a guy alot of time by annoying him."

Rob: "Oh him! Ha! I remember, that was funny!"

Me: *draws his sawed-off shotgun, fires, Robs head bursts apart*

"Don't even think about annoying me, little ****er!"

But yeah, don't like him either. He was the reason I made children killable in my FO3 version. A simple check in the GECK :D.

Yip. Definitely gonna have to romance MacCready simply based off of the amount of hate the fanbase is shovelling in his direction.

Here's a thought... how about you guys actually meet the advlt MacCready grows into in the ten years since we've last seen him before deciding that you hate him and he should die? I mean, yeah, he was an annoying little brat in FO3 - but considering he was just a child, put in charge of protecting other children against the horrors outside, can you really blame the kid for trying to play tough guy and being kind of obnoxious? And as for his role in the main quest, yeah the circumstances were a little ridiculous, but the whole main quest in FO3 had you walking from location to location doing favors for people and killing stuff, so I don't see why having to go to Paradise Falls is such a big deal to people.

Well, whatever. I personally plan to meet the kid and get to know him as he is now before forming an opinion. I mean, yeah if his twenty-year-old self has exactly the same personality as his ten-year-old self, that's an issue. But that'd be true for anyone.

Poor Robert. xD

Robert: “I don't get it, Nora/Howard. Why do people hate me so much? I was born and raised in Little Lamplight, raised by other children for God's sake. How else was I supposed to act?!”

MacCready sounds like dinner for deathclaws.

I don't get the hate. I think this is a cool tie-in with FO3.

People complaining that Little Lamplight doesn't make sense and isn't realistic? Um.... this is Fallout, and it is an homage to Mad Max. And what, did everyone also hate the Antagonizer? There are a lot of silly things in Fallout, but that's part of what makes the universe so great.

And why not see what became of MacReady? Sure he was obnoxious in FO3, but that was intentional, and was a small part of what made Little Lamplight unique.

It's not silly, it wasn't made for the fun of the player. It's just incoherent.

It would've been OK if it was just a minor settlement that you found with optional side quests. No, instead this was a location you MUST visit for the main quest, and if you don't have the right skill level/perks, you MUST adhere to the whims of a snot-nosed little kid or you can't get into the Vault to retrieve something for the main quest. And even when you do rescue the children from the slavers, he still treats you like a damned, dirty mungo.

And need I remind you that you, the aforesaid damned dirty mungo, are armed to the teeth with more weapons and gadgets than realistically possible? Yet you, the one-man/woman war machine, have to submit to the will of a ten year old.

That's why people are hating him.

I just read major of limplight and already decided I'm shooting him in the face and feeding his corpse to a deathclaw.
