Regional Food Compaired.

Post » Fri May 09, 2014 2:13 pm

We have a lot of international members on the community discussion page and lately ive been chatting with Norwegian and Icelandic people who eat things that i personally consider to be weird and distasteful but happens to be their favourite food. While they seem to find my favourite food unusual themselves.

I thought it would be interesting to see the differences in regional tastes and who finds what kind of foreign foods weird.

So please post your favourite food and where you come from In the begining of your post, then respond to some one elses food and say why or why not you would enjoy that food?

I will start off with mine. My favorite food right now is chicken Cordon bleu. I love ham and swiss cheese stuffed into formed chicken meat that is breaded and baked because i love meat and cheese. I wish they would put bacon in it too.

Well, I'm not international, but as I implied in the food threads, we have some regional foods back home.

-Crabs - Maryland Blue Crabs. Y'all know we love 'em. Everyone does. Best if steamed and seasoned with old bay. This includes Crab cakes, crab dip, crab salad, crab soup, crab chips (not really crab), and so on and so forth.

-Old Bay - Don't know what's in it, but it's the greatest seasoning in the world. We put it on everything from crabs to ice cream (true story. It's good.)

-Pit Beef - Don't know how to say it... It's like barbecue without the barbecue sauce. Best served thin sliced on Kaiser roll with Tiger sauce (50/50 Horseradish/Mayonnaise)

-Collards - Cooked up with ham hock and butter.

-Oysters - Good if you can get 'em. The bay populations been on the decline for decades.

-RoFo Chicken - Royal Farms is a convenience store chain in Maryland, Virginia, and Delaware that for whatever reason has the greatest fried chicken known to man. Their fries are pretty damn good too.

Those are the ones that come to mind. I'm from Maryland, and those are my favorite foods from home.

What, Hawai'i?

Haven't had it out here. Would feel like cheating. And nobody here has heard of old bay.

That's because you have an unhealthy obsession with spam.

SoCal - the regional delight here is tri-tip, fish tacos, and Mexican food.

Ha, I do not. I have tried the Spam Musubi, that's good, but I still retain my mainland distaste for Spam. I may, however, acquire that taste someday, but I've only been here a year.

I eat that kind of thing on a nearly daily basis. Always delicious.

Went to Orlando, Florida for a bit though - realized I loved Cuban food much more. Bacalao was my favorite. We have no Cuban or Dominican restaurants in my town :ermm:
