Reign of Fire

I'm eagerly awaiting 11 November. I can't wait to get my hands on a copy of Skyrim. There are a few things I'm hoping for though. For one, I'd like to see the player be able to be the ruler of a town (if not the whole kingdom) similar to Morrowind, and to a (sadly) lesser degree in Oblivion. It'd be great to be able to upgrade small settlement into an impressive city so that it rivals all others. Better guards, more defenses, richer trade...all that kind of stuff. Perhaps roving groups of bandits could try and raid your holdings every now and then and it was up to you and your guards to fight them off. I'd also like to see shapeshifting. Like a Druid turning into a bird, wolf, or a bear. They had a "druid-like" quest in Oblivion, forgot the name of it though. I might have to go back through the game.

Failing that, bring back werewolves and vampires. None of this Twilight 'vampires twinkle in the light' type BS, I'm talking Legacy of Kain style vampirism and Underworld style lycanthropy. Make them real fast and real strong, so that all but the most accomplished show no fear when facing off against one. I'd also like to see the player be able to hire a small group of mercenaries or hero NPCs to journey with. The player plus 2 or 3 others would suffice. Maybe a bit of romance, choosing a wife, or at least seducing the wenches at the local tavern. The screen of the tavern looked awesome. Having a few cups of mead, followed by enjoying the company of a serving lass in the hay loft sounds appetising... Nothing as involved as Fable 3 perhaps, but it's an RPG. Unless it's your intention, who wants to be the mysterious solitary 'unnamed hero'?

Another couple things I'd like to see is, end-game, the ability to summon a dragon that you can ride. You're the Davokhiin (sorry it's spelt wrong, forgot where I saw it spelt) and you've just (more than likely) slain a whole bunch of dragons. A grand reward would be never letting them forget who the boss is by forcing one to allow you to ride it (not to mention using it to deter possible invaders of your city...with FIRE!!!). That way it's not exactly game breaking, you earned it and you're most likely fairly higth level by the end of the storyline and have explored most of the world anyway. Mounted combat would be great also. I felt kind of wierd having to dismount to fight in Oblivion. They've implemented dual wielding, I'm excited about that, but I'll still more than likely be a hybrid magic/melee class (I call them Templar).

Well, just thought I'd share my thoughts on Skyrim. I know there's been a bit of a mixed reaction to the suggestion of flying mounts, but it's not like everyone would have them - just you. In their tongue, you're known as Davokhiin...DRAGONBORN! (cue epic music)

i would really like shapeshifting into a full dragon but i wouldent mind being a half breed like in Adventure Quest but not so corny (and no i don't play it i played it once many years ago) being a half breed would be nice

EDIT:

Because afterall you are a dragonborn you posses their blood and if im not mistaken when you take a creature's blood and introduce into your system it will start affecting you and in extreme cases even re write your genitc code

Does DNA even exist in TES uiverse? Being Dragonborn is a gift of the gods, that allow you to speak the tongue of the dragons. You're not an hybrid.

I would like to have mounted combat. However, I don't like the idea of riding a dragon (they HATE you too much, and it would be overpower), nor becoming one... I mean... why?

being able to become one through dragon shouts would be awesome, at least for me anyway.

as for why, to me it would be because it would allow me to fly all over skyrim, reach otherwise unreachable places and also to have the possibility of having a dragon on dragon "dog fight".

maybe that's just me and my inner panzer dragoon fan talking, i still think it would be awesome though.

ps: and before anyone says "wait for the mods" i play on ps3 so no, i'd rather hope it's on the vanilla game.

About allowing you to reach unreachable places, if they would want to do it, I think they would include Levitation (as in Morrowind). About "dog fights", there is already a dragonshout that force a dragon to fight with you.

there's a difference between being in a dragon vs dragon battle than watching it from the ground. i prefer being in it as one of the dragons
as for choosing between levitation and flying as a dragon, i'd still choose the latter if only because of the cool factor and not having to rely on conventional magic so i can roleplay as a warrior/rogue type of character and still have the ability to fly through means of being the dragonborn.

Todd Howard stated in the GI podcast that it is highly unlikely that riding dragons will be in the game.

I agree that mounted combat would be fun. although perhaps not on a dragon. And they may not have DNA for sure but they have some kind of equivalent. We know that if two races cross breed it looks like the mother (from The Real Barenziah, I believe). Therefore traits must pass down so there are genetics. Basically if there is pregnancy there is genetics and some form of DNA.

You have a point there (and as right now I'm studying genetic I think... could be that mitochondrial DNA had more importance among the races of Tamriel? You know, for that about children looking like their mothers... I'm maddening). But, anyway, I don't think of "Dragonbornism" as an hereditary feature. I would say it's more like a blessing.

It clearly says somewhere from the developers that being a dragonborn is hereditary. Also, more proof of hereditary traits is that the whole Septim line were dragonborn (up until the death of Martin).

First support of becoming a dragon after end of main quest is that... Martin became a dragon to fight what's his nuts in the end of Oblivion.

that is reason enough to allow us to become a dragon.

reason it won't be in the game is because that is a whole nother game, I highly doubt they will implement it into this game because there would be a lot of work that would have to be done in order to get flight mechanics, and attacks and animations for a PC down solid.

I do still want it though : )

It is hereditary, but it's not like one of your ancestors was a dragon or something. It is some kind of blessing by Akatosh.

Also Martin didn't became a dragon, he became (or opened a gate, dunno) an Avatar of Akatosh, and even that killed him.

Oh, and Divinity II already has dragon transformation in it...

Reign of Fire was a terrible movie.

Dragons was awesome modeled, style really nice and fit to TES since dragons in TES more like wyverns,
Also there is great Morrowind mod with such name

After Martin shapeshifted into a dragon, he died. He sacrificed himself. And not only that, he also had to shatter the Amulet of Kings. So using the power to change into a dragon will in the first place kill your character, and you'll need an Amulet of Kings too. Sounds like a really useful power

I gues that it is the Monster Hunter fan in me that's talking.

Dragons are ment to be killed and not ment for riding. Just saying.

how much martin really know about the ways of the dragonborn?

i think it'd be awesome to be able to transform into a dragon by unlocking a special dragon shout by reading the best hidden tablet of dragon language in skyrim guarded by a very powerful boss character.
that alone would make earning the ability very rewarding IMO.

Not necessarily I saw a link to an in-game book which described dragon riding, forget where it was. It doesn't flatly contradict anything.

On a lighter note I had a mental image of my char walking up to the final dragon and just being like,"Wazz up Alduin Mo' Fu**a you my Bi**h now! And then flying away on his back.
