01/08/09: Release, 1.0, get it while it's hot! http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=6068.

An image strip of screenshots: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v483/Tubal/F3/Panorama01.jpg?t=1249154610. Not actually of the latest version, but close enough. ;)

Readme:

Name: Reilly's Rangers ExpandedVersion: 1.0Date: 2009/08/01Category: Locations/FactionsRecommended: Fallout Mod ManagerAuthor: TubalSource: http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=6068Forum: http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=970872Description===========Don't have any reason to return to the Ranger compound after completing Reilly's quest besides the caps? Feel that a mercenary team of 4 seems a bit small to operate in the DC ruins?Reilly's Rangers Expanded adds new rangers and new features to the compound over time. As you help the rangers to explore they expand their operation.Location========The Ranger Compound in Seward Square.Details=======This initial version adds new rangers as guards for the compound, a merchant, a player-owned tent, a wearable ballistic mask, and a few other minor tweaks. All features will become available by returning to Reilly with mapping data. Currently there is no consideration for how much data is needed, so 1 map marker is all that's needed to unlock another step. Leave the area for a day or so for the expansion to take place. Also retextures the Ranger Battle Armour, and the ranger logos decorating the place.Additional features are planned for the future.Install=======This mod is distributed as a FOMOD ready archive, and the RECOMMENDED way to install it is to use the Fallout Mod Manager (FOMM):1. Open FOMM.2. Select Package Manager.3. Select Add Package.4. Open the mod archive file.5. Find the created mod in the list and activate it.To uninstall using FOMM:1. Open FOMM2. Select the Package Manager3. Find the mod in the list and deactivate it.(4. optional: Right-click the mod and select Delete to remove completely from hard drive)The mod can be installed by extracting it into the Fallout 3 data folder. No instructions will be provided by me on how to do this.Incompatibility===============The mod is incompatible with others that change the named rangers, Ranger Battle Armour, the outside of the compound (the inside is not touched in this version), and possibly the random event involving Donovan.Depending on the type of change there may be acceptible conflicts, eg changing the Battle Armour will not affect the expansion of the compound.Known Issues or Bugs====================No bugs are known at this time.History=======1.0, 2009/08/01 - Initial release.Contact=======I can be found at the Bethesda forums, or the Nexus forums under the nickname 'Tubal'.Credits=======Credits to ME. Looks promising, I'm'a download. Just out of curiousity, can you explain more about the new extra Rangers? Are they just generic "Rangers", or are they each unique? If the latter, are they voiced?

I haven't touched the armour itself actually, so I'm no sure what you mean?

They're just generic rangers so far, no extra voices. I have thought about adding a character voiced by myself, but since I'm not a native english speaker I'd have to think a bit about his origins... not that Bethesda seems to care. ;)

The group is called Reilly's Rangers, but on the Armour is says Riley's Rangers.

Dangit. The text is mirrored on the skin so I guess I just never caught it. It must have been like that for a long time now...

I guess now is a good time to release a few alternative skins? ;)

Well, maybe a few could have crude paintjobs with mispelling. It'd make sense with all the Wastelanders who cannot read or write.

Compiling a few skinpacks for alternate camouflage patterns:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v483/Tubal/F3/tubRRSampleUKDPM.jpg: Default skin, only correctly speeled now... Going to update the main file too.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v483/Tubal/F3/tubRRSampleSwedenM90TRBE.jpg: Desert version of the swedish camouflage.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v483/Tubal/F3/tubRRSampleIrelandDPM.jpg: I finally found references for the actual Irish camouflage.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v483/Tubal/F3/tubRRSampleUSMCUrban.jpg: Experimental urban camouflage, never adopted but fits quite well into Fo3 I think.

Shots from the front isn't really great at showing the camouflage pattern though, it's more visible on the BDU's too.

Given that Reilly actually talks about how small her group is, would it be more...."lore-friendly" (yeah...gawd, not those words...) if the guards and merchants were robots insteads of humans? Just a thought.

I don't know about that, it feels like it would be easier to recruit a few more mercs than getting hold of and maintaining 200 year old robots. As the BoS say: "everyone knows how to make another human". :)
And anyway, I continue where the lore ends. After the quest the official lore on the rangers end, they don't develop any further than that.

Skinpacks released, and I also corrected the spelling error in the main file. If anyone has a suggestion for a good camouflage pattern I'll see about adding it as another pack.

So, is it still in development? When can we see the next update? Or is it final version already?

A bugfix is coming up pretty soon, but the next proper version is a ways off. (In fact, I'm not promising anything :))

It seems like the DC Interiors Seward Square plugin conflicts with my mod. I'm not sure how, the game crashes if I COC into my test cell that isn't in any way connected to Seward Square...
It seems to work if you put DC Interiors after tubRRCompound.esp, thereby overriding my changes, but I'm not sure what consequences that will have. I think there should only be minor navmesh errors, please inform me if it gets bad.

That aside, I've now split the mod into an ESM/ESP pair so I don't get the skin-tone mismatch bug. I've also increased the number of possible faces for the unnamed rangers, they look much better now.

I'm sorry I must be misunderstanding - is the esm/esp version not uploaded yet?

I downloaded and it seems the one I already had.

btw,
DC Seward Sq is one of the most conflictual mods in my load order (as are most of the Puce Moose mods).

I noticed some of the guards out front of the compound have a red talk to text (like when the PC is sneaking) even when he is not sneaking..

They don't attack or any think but won't talk to me.

Great mod.

The Rangers compound always seemed rather empty.

Any word on compatibility with DC Interiors? I would love to add this mod, but just added DCI and am curious about that as well.

Cheers

On loading the mod into FO3EDIT along with all my others, I discovered a series of errors being reported about Reillys Rangers mod.

I can't remember what they were, but I CAN tell you that with the mod loaded, my crashing issues become so pronounced as to prevent even five minutes of gameplay.

So, when you get ready to release the next version, you need to make sure to clean the mod(s) well.

Your installation seems to crash from breathing to hard on it Elanthil. ;)
I'll check it out if I start working on the mod again, as is probably obvious I'm not working actively on it at the moment.

I don't know anything more than I've written before, I don't use that mod myself. If you want to stay on the safe side don't use the Seward Square part of DC Interiors at the same time as this mod.
