Reinhardt's Regiment - Discussion

Post » Mon Aug 16, 2010 10:11 am

Maybe I should link up with you guys in Chorrol...reason being some business arrangement gone wrong or getting ambushed by a bandit in front of the regiment?

Alright, so I simply made the two bandits wounded; that way there will be a fight scene ultra-fast.

Awesome. I'll rough them up a bit and interrogate what's left. I think I'll run with this mini-story arc for a little bit instead of heading directly to Chorrol could be entertaining. Good post there too. :)

The post below had been created to record everything we do as it happens. It means that anyone who wants to join in can quickly catch up without having to trawl through the whole RP thread. Just thought it might help; the post itself will be linked in the main post in this thread. Also deleted Gortock's entry on the character roster for clarity, seeing as he doesn't appear to be participating. I've got the details saved, so it can be added back at a moment's notice, if required. :)

Timeline:

Prologue - 'Camping and Caravaning':
? Reinhardt and the Regiment had been traveling along the Black Road towards Chorrol. As the sun set, they set up camp for the night and started to get to know each other. After the others had gone to sleep, Reinhardt heard the sounds of battle while on guard duty. Rousing the Regiment, they proceeded towards the commotion and discovered a site of carnage where bandits had ransacked a caravan. After interrogating a captured bandit, Reinhardt discovered the caravan had a traitor who tipped the outlaws off. He called a vote on whether to attack the remnants in their base, or continue on to Chorrol. It was obvious that there was more going on than first met the eye.
? Outcome: New mission accepted.

Mission One - 'Black Road Blues':
? A majority voted in favour of moving in on the bandits' base and killing their leader, Svog Elf-Hewer. Chorrol wasn't going to disappear, as Trannigan aptly pointed out. The injured caravan owner Soren Snowe signed a contract to finalize a deal with the Regiment, with a reward of 2,000 septims for hunting down Svog and escorting the caravan's cargo to Chorrol.

Hey there, just want to check if you're still taking in new character sheets?

Thinking of playing a more inexperienced character who somehow bumps into the Regiment and ends up involved in the story for a period of time, Could be more a through-away character should you feel it'd be more suited. I've got a couple idea's for a story arc to get my character involved with the Regiment which i can PM to you, so we can avoid revealing any storyline to other members of the RP, if your interested.

I'll knock up a character sheet on the off-chance.

Cheers,

Certainly! More members are always appreciated. Feel free to put your sheet here and send me any ideas. If you don't want to be in Svog's ruins for whatever reason, feel free to get recruited in Chorrol. We'll be hanging around there for a while, so that'd be the easiest route. An unexperienced character would be good though, seeing as everyone so far (with perhaps the exception of Glass Argonian's character?) is a hard-bitten veteran. I'll be interested in seeing what you come up with anyway.

Character sheet looks good to me. Feel free to start your story arc as soon as we've progressed far enough to allow it. :)

I'll add your character to the front sheet. The sheet will be added to the main thread once you've made your first post there.

Hmm. It seems we have a serious continuity error. I was reading The Expedition to Saarthal roleplay, just because it's a neat concept, and some of the characters from it have appeared here. Thought I'd aquaint myself with the writing, so to speak. Because it's good to have a running timeline, I threw a few references in with my posts, and prompted you guys to talk about your experiences in the legendary First City. All good so far. However... Reinhardt's Regiment is set immediately post Oblivion Crisis, so maybe a couple of months after the game in 3E 434 / 4E 1, tops.

The Expedition to Saarthal is set in 4E 71 (I believe) when the entrance to the city is dug up again. Which is the issue. Characters from Saarthal appear to have traveled seven decades back in time in order to participate in this thread, it seems. I can't really retcon our date to then either, due to the opening post and setting and DarkZerker having done descriptions about farms burned during the Crisis. Ah well. We can either make an extremely convoluted and arbitrary explanation or just ignore it, which would be simpler.

I guess I should have checked the other RP that was being pulled onto the timeline first. Oh well. :P

Haha yeah that does present quite a problem, probably best to just ignore it since the 2 stories wont connect anyways. It just so happens to have characters from it is all.

Edit: I blame akatosh himself. Seems to be extremely bad at the whole 'keeping time in linear order' thing. :shifty:

Is there still room in the RP?

Most certainly. Write up a character sheet and think up a method of inserting yourself into the story, and you're more than welcome. Reading through the current thread would also be advisable, before it gets too long. At any rate, the important thing is we're about to raid a bandit stronghold belonging to a Nord called Svog Elf-Hewer.

He'll more than likely have a fair few prisoners around the place. I'll leave that as a hint, unless you want to wait and join us at Chorrol. :)

Name: Gaidal Al' Luhan

Race: Imperial
Gender: Male
Age: 27
Birthsign: The Warrior

Skills: Smithing, Construction, Athletics, Hammer/Axe, Marksman, Heavy Armor

General Appearance: 6' 1", 225 lbs. Wide set with arms of a blacksmith. Shaggy black hair held back by a leather cord. Scar above left eye leaves it in permanent squint. Brown eyes. Full black beard. Weathered complexion.

Inventory: 24" Smithing Hammer, 12" Smithing Hammer, Smithing Tongs, Small Bellows, Waterskin, 2 Bottles of Beer, 2 Small Loaves of Bread, A Chunk of Cheese, Sturdy Brown Boots, Worn Brown Pants, Worn White Shirt, Tattered Grey Coat, Worn Yew Long Bow, 18 Iron Arrows, Pouch of 45 Iron Arrow Heads, Pouch of 25 Steel Arrow Heads, Sturdy Leather Jerkin, Wooden Round Shield, 24 Septims.

Brief Biography: Gaidal grew up in a small village South of Cheydinall. He had no formal military training but growing up hunting in the woods behind the village had honed his skill with a bow. At the age of fourteen he became the local blacksmiths apprentice. His new trade made him fit and strong. Right before his 18th name day Gaidal's village was attacked by bandits. Taking up a wood hewing axe he met the attacking bandits with the other men of the town. They fought them off. Over the next months the bandits made more attempts at the village.

That is when his interest of architecture was born. Reading over a few books on building that he found scattered throughout the village, Gaidal was able to draw and co ordinate the construction of a town wall, complete with battlements and watch towers. The construction took a few years and many visits to the imperial library made Gaidal very proficient at construction during this time. Never did he lose a passion for smithing.

On his 27th nameday Gaidal decided he wanted more than a quiet life in a remote town. Rumours of mercenary bands had reached his ears. He figured he could get on with a band, fixing and repairing their equipment until he could afford his own. Dreams of adventure floated through his mind and he wanted to act before he became too comfortable.

OOC:

So.... I saw this RP was still open. I drafted up a character and would like to request entry. Also, if anyone had any idea's how I could easily integrate myself into the story line that would be great.

Juhanor is really an interdimensional being that is unaffected by the laws of reality. Those around him are affected in similar ways. That is why it works out.

Duh.

Right, just to let everyone know I am still here. Had a horrendously busy few days, but I'm back now. I'll edit in replies to specific posts above, including the new applications as I go.

@hircine21: Well... That is quite a character sheet. A few things immediately strike me here, and I'm probably going to come across as unduly harsh. For starters, the character seems pretty overqualified. I requested that seven skills were to be picked in order to limit the capability of god-like beings cropping up (as well as to mesh with the Oblivion character creation process, but that's a minor thing). Unfortunately, you've picked 11 (arguably 12) which would need to be severely trimmed back in order to meet the requirements. A good start would probably be to delete 'reading and writing', seeing as in the TES universe, it seems to be more worth noting when a character can't manage it than when they can.

Next, you seem to have taken on the trait of a pack-rat, with the lugging around a small library, armoury and laboratory. This kind of neatly leads on to my next worry: plausibility. Why would Nathaniel be even remotely interested in the Regiment? He's a noble-born, decked out in jewels and extravagance, not to mention the gold he's hauling about. If he's already hit that standard of living, I can't see why he'd be interested in scrabbling through the blood and mud with a bunch of peasants in return for chump-change (to put it bluntly). I actually raised the same issue about the character Soren Snowe, who it was then written was facing ruin due to the Oblivion Crisis and joined out of necessity. Similarly, you'd have to make an explanation as to why things are happening, etc.

@Bathemal: Good to see more characters from humble origins. Skill-set matches requirements and everything else seems good to go. Accepted. If you want to insert yourself into the RP early, I would suggest contacting Mhund and working out some details of how you're going to deal with being cell-mates. If not, we'll see you in Chorrol. :)

@Mhund: Got it. We'll be there soon, promise. :P

@Trannigan: Yeah, Reinhardt ran straight across the clearing. I edited my post to make it a little clearer. We'll proceed after we get a reply from Adam. Also, I'll call in a mod to sweep up the blank posts that are in the thread at the moment. :P

@ The Luggage,

I think I will wait for the regiment in Chorrol. Possibly making horse shoe nails for a few extra septims in the mean time. Is there any way I can start to RP in a different setting (Chorrol) while I wait? If not no worries, I don't know exactly how you are doing this. I will grow accustomed along the way.

I will PM Mhund.

Cannot apologies enough for the delay between posts. Been having a seriously bad time in the big bad real world, although that issue is mostly done with now. At any rate, I'm back and posting. One done just now actually. Sorry to Adam if that seemed a little brutal and / or excessive, but I'm making up for lost time and Reinhardt's own latent racism. :P
