I'm reinstalling from months of play, and now I'm getting this.
Please help?

Cycle Redundancy's are usually caused when a file becomes corrupted.

In some cases, these steps can help avoid that.
- Make sure your CD is clean and has no scratches.
- Close all other programs during installation, including your Anti-virus
- Install as Administrator

CD has a couple. Sometimes scratches are benign. Not the case here, I guess?
Damn.

I'm having the exact same problems as well. What version of windows are you using? My problem is happening on Windows 7 at 31% and trying to install a file labelled C:\...\Data Files\Sound\Vo\r\m\Hlo_RM042.mp3. From what it looks like, it is caused by that file as every time I try to install it, it stops at the exact same place.

Edit: found a ring of light scratches around the disk (probably due to large amounts of use on my old laptop). Is there any way to remove those scratches or are they permanent? Thanks for any help.

Some movie stores, or video game stores, offer a cleaning service for DVDs/CDs. In my experience, these have always worked great in restoring damaged discs.

Found out that the scratches are the problem. They are so bad that when I tried to create a backup disc (as advised by wikihow), that fails as well. So it looks like I can no longer play Morrowind...

Do you have a friend who can lend you a copy for installation? If not just go buy yourself a new disc, they are cheap :)

10$ is 10$ I don't have just lying around. Cheap yes, but I'd rather just clean the disk somehow.

Using a soft, clean shirt doesn't seem to do the trick.
Any cheap alternatives to disc-cleaning?

Nope, I don't have any friends who own it and the £17 I have left over from my birthday (yes, I still get birthday money... I'm trying to get a christmas job at Argos but I don't know how that will turn out...) was going to go towards getting some MSpoints for L4D2, RE5/Bloody Good Time. How much is it on the internet/steam at the moment? If it is cheap, them I might get that and get the points later. Also, if it is cheap on steam, won't I need to buy a valve product to get it?

I might have a work-around for the installation errors but I'm not sure it'll work. I still have the game installed on my laptop. If I move all of the files assosiated to morrowind over to my computer, will that bypass the installation or would it just cause a massive chunk of memory to be lost?

Thanks for all the help.

$19.99 on steam. Just a little more on amazon.com. But only 6 pounds on amazon.co.uk! Like, half the price... don't ask me why...
You could also look for the normal edition and install the expansions from the goty edition, if they still work.

But if you have it already installed somewhere else it shouldn't be a problem to copy the files... that is, after all, how you install multiple copies. I'd definitely try it! It can't harm.

Do you need to copy everything on the CD as well or is it just the files that are installed on the other PC?

I think as long as you can still play with the disc, even if you can't install, it should be enough to just copy the files over from the other pc. I don't think that Morrowind has any other files in other places that you need to copy too... as I said, I doubt it will harm to try, let us know if it works!

The files are now being transferred. The disc loads up on the laptop so it looks like the game still works, but not the installation. Hopefully this will bypass the installation problems.

Edit: The files are now ready. Just checking, do you move the files into the programs folder?

I'd put the files in the same folder as it would install them by default... so yes, programmes/bethesda softworks/morrowind or something like that.

It didn't work. The program still tried to install and failed.

I'm starting to think that it could be windows 7 interfereing as my non-windows 7 laptop will still let it work.

Can you still install on your laptop?

From the multiple copies thread:
2. Most (all?) of the settings from Morrowind's in-game Options menu are stored in the Windows Registry, so all the installations will share the same settings. That wasn't any problem at all for me, since I normally set those options once and leave them alone.

Maybe I was wrong about the files you need all being in the Morrowind folder. Perhaps it has something to do with that? If not, i'm afraid I'm out of ideas, you'll need to find yourself a new disc probably.

I'm reinstalling because the game stopped working (Mods kind of erode the game. Gets stable when I stop being so download-happy.) So, no, all of the 'files' are already uninstalled. I didn't know about the scratch until it was too late.
