[RELEASE) Nehrim - At Fate's Edge (English version)

Post » Sun Sep 05, 2010 5:12 pm

Oh wow i've just been playing this now for the past two hours, I cannot believe how accomplished this is. Now if you buy Oblivion for PC not only are you getting access to a whole bunch of amazing mods for the normal game but now were getting a full brand new game on top of that!

Oh THANKS for that spoiler!

edit: I can't 'open' the diary like I read you can to tone down that depth blur. It alternately claims I can't equip it and I cannot use it now. I really don't want to restart to fix it. :(

Sorry for all the questions but
Spoiler
I can't find the thing in the mine to reinforce the gate with the mages outside. This is right after the soap quest.

You may not be able to open the diary if you have not reached your first level-up in the mines but after that by just clicking on it it will open a menu, yes there is a messaage that says you cannot equip it but the menu should always open so you can view your different stats - hunting, crafting, spell level, etc. and the last one is "Settings." If not I haven't a clue as to why.

Level up in the mines? I'm still level 1 at the sanctum. Was I supposed to have a class so I have major skills before this? Ah crap. Looks like I'd better delete both Oblivion and Nehrim and start from scratch. (I've played it for 5 hours today too :( )

No you don't get a class in the mines but you get instructed on the diary use in the mines. The mines and before you get out the gate act like a tutorial to most of the things you can do. Unless you ran all the way to the Sanctum I don't see how you are still at level 1. Besides there are way more things to do then just the main quest. Actually build yourself through each of the leveled areas because a level 5 in a level 24 area will get you creamed.

Hmm, something's clearly gone wrong on my install. I'll wipe the slate clean and start again. Grr.

It is kinda a testament to this TC's awesomeness I could play it for 5 hours and not notice it was broken though.

And I walked all the way to the Sanctum thankyouverymuch ;)

Before you go with the reinstalling. Did everything start in English? Did you go through the mine and encounter the events post (not problems) but the events talked about so far? If so what happened at the event with the torches? That is when you get instructions on the diary.

I would like to make a FYI statement so everyone knows this. Many may want to use TCL or TGM in the game using TCL in the opening Mine can break the game because it will let you pass some spots and a varaible will not get updated so the only thing you can do is start over or start with a save before you used TCL. Using TGM at certain times will not let scripts function in the game therefore you will loss the effect of what you just tried to do. So do not start saying your game is broken when you use those two cheats. So use them at your own risk and don't complain.

aye please dont use TCL, you'll miss triggers and stop the game from progressing normally, that and Godmode.

Question I took a shovel earlier while I was in the Dungeon, will that work? (for spoiler talk above)

Nope, shovels with a (T) at the end are for digging in special spots. I haven't found a way to substitute another item for a quest item. If you have to get an item then it has to be that item. You may know what you need but the in game avator does not.

Do what the note said and I think you are missing a torch because you should have 4.

But the the door is locked. I have 4 torches (I used the levers and got them) but it wont let me out any of the doors.

When you picked the torches up did you get a quest update? If so then the cell door you came in should be unlocked.

I never cheat, but thanks for assuming the worst in someone. I wasn't saying 'Nehrim is broken' I was saying 'I broke my Nehrim'. Different enough.

I found out what the problem was actually. In my panic to get away from the black troll I'd actually not noticed the lever that triggers the rope-lift sequence across the big chasm and instead somehow jumped onto the ropes and ran across, breaking the sequence of events enough to somehow not trigger the levelup when I killed the black troll. So basically the same effect as TCL I admit.

OK so no one is going to answer http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1115758-release-nehrim-at-fates-edge-english-version/page__view__findpost__p__16384240 so I downloaded the mod and have read over some of the stuff.

First question is that it says if copies my Oblivion folder (which is a great idea), but what if I have mods in there already? Will it copy all those loose files too? Or will it just copy the BSA and stuff that comes with the vanilla game.

I would really appreciate an answer to this - pretty please - I don't want to start the installer only to find that my computer is choking on copying the 35 gigs that is my current data folder.

I have made (awhile back) a copy of the vanilla data folder - If the installer does copy everything is there a way I can fool it to copy this back up instead?

Thanks - literally sitting on my hands waiting for an answer.

It will only copy the BSA's and an exe.

I just did a clean install, so I don't have tons of mods in my data folder, but when Nehrim installed on my drive it just copied certain files from the Oblivion Data folder, like the Oblivion.exe, and a couple of the BSAs. So it should be fine for you. :)

I just copies the Oblivion original BSA's, and the .exe, if it copied the mods, it could possibly break your install before it began. Don't worry about it, Nehrim, I don't think, can even run Oblivion mods.

They've already said that it will only copy necessary files. I'm pretty positive that it wont load any custom stuff added by mods.

Whether it will copy replacers, like textures replacer mods I don't know though.

Psymon,

Really appreciate your persistence in asking those questions. As much as I want to play this mod, awesome work by the way and the modders deserve great praise, I cannot install until your questions get answered. I have a very solid "my world of oblivion" running and I just don't have the time to mess it up and re-install everything. Nor do I really have the time to do tricks like copy installations back and forth. As much as I like Oblivion, I like my other non-oblivion life even more (and it takes most my time : )

So, since I already have so many added mods that do not require massive changes to my installation, Elsweyr Deserts of Anequina (sp?) come to mind as just one great example (but, there are many others thanks to a vibrant modding community), that I will have a hard enough time finding time to play, I may have to pass on this mod.

Again, just in case I'm not being clear, I think this mod is an awesome achievement, but, it may be beyond "my" limitations. Unless it is easy to switch back and forth (which I think is, to some degree, is what Psymon is trying to determine). I'll have to wait until things become a little clearer. I may have to also take a pass on other similar mods that are on the way (the middle earth one as an example) due to similar issues.

Of course, in a few more years when I have retired (yeah, kinda dating myself : ), I may have enough free time to come back and enjoy all the great efforts that these modders have done. So, the loss will not be permanent.

Note that I did read through the readme and faq and did not see anything that would really answer most of Psymon's questions. Although, I'll be the first to admit that I could have missed the info.

Thanks,

Tarl

Thanks guys - sorry to be a nag.

TarlofGor-
It makes a new game directory so most of those questions are moot it will access resources from a new data directory and so no the question becomes can I add OBSE and maybe even port Wrye Bash? Because I already see Nehrim mods on Nexus - not many, but Oblivion is hard to imagine without Bash and the mods I mentioned before like TQP and Menu escape.

But first things first - going to at least try and get it up and running tonight. This is like getting a free game - so cool.
