PC Release question

Post » Thu Aug 19, 2010 3:44 am

Since the PC version is attached to Steam, does that mean that all PC versions will be forced to wait until Steam unlocks the game the morning of release (currently 10AM PST/1PM EST in North America)? That was the case with Civ5, anyway. It seems unfair to offer midnight releases (as confirmed in another thread) if the PC buyers have to wait on Steam to actually play while 360 and PS3 owners can play right away.

Most likely yes. And us in EU will be forced to wait for STEAM to unlock the game even if we happen to receive our physical copy earlier (happened to me with Civ V). svcks but what can ya do.

We don't know when the game will unlock on Release Day, nor why Civ5 was activated when it was. However, two different games, two different developers and two different publishers so any similarity between the two games is coincidental.

That would svck, people who pre-order sometimes receive their copy a day early and they should be able to enjoy that .

Meh, it's one more day of waiting at most. I can handle one more day.

That's not really true. Reps from 2K made if very clear on Civ5's official forums not only that the game wouldn't unlock for anyone until Steam unlocked it, but made clear the time, and asked to be notified about any midnight launches because they didn't want them to happen.

And right now, Steam has a countdown time for Fallout:NV (as they always do for games you can preorder) that points to the time I mentioned in my first post.

It just seems to me that this is something that needs to be clarified, because people who buy the PC version at a GameStop midnight opening are going to be posting here and be upset if they can't play until sometime the next day.

the unlock time for Europe (by my calculations) is 6pm on Friday the 22nd.

and since I finish work early on Fridays and that the royal mail are surprisingly very good. this means that i have to wait for steam to unlock whilst the game disk sits on my desk taunting me for a day and a half!

Thank you Steam! :banghead: :brokencomputer: :flamethrower:
