(RELz) FCOM Convergence

Adventurers with Lanterns appeared in whole other dungeon, fort with Oblivion Guardians inside, near Chorrol in fact (cant recall exact name now). But the 4 days wait might still be the requirement. is it 4 days for FCOM btw? Cant remember if some of the mods changed it

If no other mod changed the cell reset time, it is still the vanilla 3 days as standard FCOM does not change that.

I use this mod to give me a http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=23366, you may wish to check it out. (there are other mods which do a similar thing)

Also noticed that some adventurer type NPC still use lanterns and cause me to lag even though I disabled em with that MMM esp. (Might just need to wait 4 days to reset cells to remove em all??)
and afterwards noticed that while no lanterns were there some spells/lights still caused problems. this hopefully got fixed by donwloading "initial Glow" and "Effect drain shader initial glow only" mods.

Did you try my ini suggestion in post 70 above? You may not have to eliminate the lanterns to begin with.

Well now I know why I still had lanterns. even though I had the No lanterns.esp on bashed patch it got overwriten by something as they were still on... gonna try making the esp as low as possible and then merging it. if that doesnt work, well gonna disable em from MMM.esm then.

No didnt try that yet. Might if my lantern disabling method doesnt work

Edit.Oh well, Bashed patch just doesnt wanna be my friend. killing it with fire and and throwing its ashes to the sea. aka removing lanterns from the MMM.esm for good But Im wondering why the No lanterns.esp didnt work even though I tried loading it next to bashed patch and merging it as it suggested?

I don't know, but one obvious reason would be that some lanterns did not come from MMM after all? Just a wild guess, not convinced at all that they are non-MMM lanterns. :shrug: I don't know if there are any mods other than MMM that add lanterns to the game.

Did you read the Boss log? Sometimes it will have a comment about this or that .esp

If you are convinced that they're all MMM lanterns and thus the No Lanterns.esp may have an issue, maybe drop a comment in the official MMM thread and post your load order there, maybe they spot something.

What the *****? Lowered fLightLOD1/2, lowered specular distance and removed lanterns from MMM but now 3 other super laggy items showed up!! And most strange ones too. Sun Child, Cold Stone and silver Naginata weapons from OOO(esm) cause MASSIVE lag when viewed in tab menu or when facing some direction in 3rd person mode :ohmy: Curiously this wont happen when wielding the weapon in first person.

Hmm, just noticed something.. Do I need to instal OOO 1.32 before 1.33 and 1.34 beta5? As Im not sure I have installed 1.32 before hand as I used OMODs that I had saved year ago and recalled that it wasnt needed. Could this be the issue for these weapon lags?

Ive gotten massive lag when looking at the barbed clubs. I am not sure which mod they come from. This has always been the case with this item, across 4 GPU's and 3 computers. I was trying to figure out a way to completely remove them from the game but it did not go as planned.

The 1.34b5 patch documentation says that a prior install of 1.33 Complete is required, but I'm not sure if that's the cause of your problems. You could always try uninstalling and installing 1.33 Complete and then the 1.34b5 patch. The official OOO site only references 1.33, but installing 1.32 then the 1.33 patch should be fine according to that documentation. I recommend migrating to BAIN to install your mods especially when it comes to FCOM because it makes executing changes to your installation A LOT easier.

Yeah, should prolly convert them to BAIN if I just had the enegy for it :biggrin: but still its strange that this happens. Cant remember glitches like this from my earlier FCOM installation (1.5 years ago). Anyhow, What happens if I now remove OOO and do complete reinstal (with 1.32) for it? Do I need to instal FCOM etc all over again too?

I've played for a couple years now with OOO/FCOM, and I've never had nor heard of this "looking at these weapons causes massive lag" bug. Neither have I seen it mentioned before to my knowledge on the last dozen or so iterations of this thread.

Before you jump to the conclusion that you've discovered a set of bugs that we've all missed, I think you should absolutely sort out your own load order difficulties entirely first.

Not true. No unknowns != no problems. Read the BOSS log and it will tell you of incompatibilities and whatnot. Running anything blind generally leads to trouble.

My 2 cents: If you don't use Wrye Bash BAIN, you don't know your install. Fix it. Try Pyyfi'ng your meshes as well.

... ya can check my load order and see its all okay. I've got enough "know-how" to clean mods too (not that its hard anyhow) so that aint problem either. I've also followed the installation guides pretty darn good and asked friend that has made mods for oblivion etc for help. So it aint load order problem

I can also use BAIN, usually I just use OMODs anyhow as many of the mods come omod ready. not the best choice maybe but Im not the only one using OMODs

I can't for the life of me understand weapons causing massive lag. None of the FCOM support mods use anything higher that 2048 rez and all are at the most medium poly.
Are either of you running replacement high rez texture weapon packs?

Im using Qarls texture pack but thats it. and I would assume that if it was too high texture problem all other weapons would cause lag too :o I Also find it strange that 3 out of 4 weapons are from same OOO folder meshes/weapons/templar/club. And I know for sure that on last installation I did not have any lantern or weapon lag problems :o

And then just to be on the safe side (but probably extreamly redundant) here's what OBMM says (BTW, about the things in RED... well, this is going to need to have a paragraph all to itself:

According to the FCOM instalation tutorial I watched on Youtube, some items should be be left unchecked in Wrye Bash during installation of everything. I don't know if some of these are the things that I was told to leave out... although, it would seem that if I had unchecked them prior to installing in Wrye Bash, those things wouldn't even show up anywhere. Others, though, have nothing to do with FCOM at all. For the longest time, some of these RED-and-unrelated-to-FCOM items would seem to uncheck themselves from the list when I wasn't looking, like when I started the game. It was like, I would check them in the Data Files menu in the Oblivion Launcher, but once I selected to Play Oblivion from the Oblivion Launcher, exited soon after, and went back to the Data Files menu in the Oblivion Launcher, they were mysteriously unchecked. But now, I CAN leave them checked... but, Oblivion freezes before even getting to the main screen. Honestly, I have NO idea what the heck is going on. Maybe someone can help me?

Also a few notes: I started to install Deadly Reflexes, but I got confused and put it on hold. I'd love to get that mod working somehow, if it's possible. I have all of the recommended/required mods on my computer that were listed in the detail section of Deadly Reflexes, I just haven't tried to install them, because I was afraid I'd mess everything up and I'd corrupt my save files, or worse, I'd make it to where Oblivion wouldn't even run.

I kind of got confused at the Oblivion Stereo Overhaul part where it says in the readme:

-To install the new version: Simply decompress the 7zip archive into your Oblivion folder, then use some sort of archive invalidation technique (e.g. OBMM) to get the game to recognize the new files.

The bolded part is what threw me for a loop. I'm not sure what Canderoc is saying here, or how to do what he is saying.

Also, I downloaded the Elsweyr Anequina Mod... I haven't even opened that one up yet, as I was dealing with everything else, but knowing my dense self, lol, I'm sure I'll have some confusion when it comes to installing it.

And finally, a very annoying thing... my female character has the stereotypical monk hair, you know, the kind where it wraps around the head but the top is bald? It wasn't like that before... I was using one of Ren's hairs. But somehow, at sometime, I screwed something up, and I'm not sure what. All I know is that when I tried to fix it, it didn't make any difference what I did. And the really anoying thing is, when I type in the consol in-game showracemenu to attempt to manually fix it, the game goes black and crashes to desktop. But I noticed that when I start a brand new game, I CAN use Ren's hairs.

Lol I said finally before, but this is REALLY finally: all of the other character creation mods that I have seem to not be showing up, such as Capucine's Character Expansion and Django's Unique Features. And I have no clue as to what else is working and what isn't, because I've never played the game without any mods, so I don't know what is normal and what you would see with a mod, if that makes any sense.

Well, I get RED all over the Wrye if I've added mod and but havent run BOSS via wrye bash. As soon as I run BOSS the red is gone and I can rebuild bashed patch without worrying about it. But your problem is way more complicated, atleast looks like it :o If I had intalled and uninstalled things and tried tweaking here and there in vain I would propably reinstall Oblivion and all the mods altogether. The thing noone wants to do after installing FCOM =)

Well geoff, you have an almighty job on your hands trying to get that load order to work if your new to modding this game. Oblivion isn't like NWN or WOW where you can throw 60 mods into a folder at once. Your going to have to build your modded game slowly, testing as you go.
And you have chosen the most complex mod Oblivion offers to start with. Something I would not recommend.
If you follow my directions I will endeavor to get FCOM working. After that it will be up to yourself or others to integrate anything not directly related to FCOM.

Disregard all 3rd party sites. This thread is where any and all information you'll find everywhere else has been taken and copied from.
I want you to firstly read and absorb the opening post very carefully.
Have you strictly followed the install order given? If not your game will crash. Often and without explanation.
Next I want you to activate FCOM related mods only. In other words anything pertaining to FCOM, OOO, MMM, Franceso's and Oblivion Warcry. Nothing else. Do not make a bashed patch at this stage. See if your game starts and plays for a few minutes.

I dare to give my humble opinion and experience here as well. May it help a bit :tongue: .
I play Oblivion since years which a huge bunch of mods. Already have changed my computer three times since the beginning. Why I mention this? Because I had a good playable heavy modded game on my old PC with WinXP on it. Now I have Win7 64bit with 4GB RAM and quadro core...and had a really hard time to get my usual modded game running. So first I would look into your system and what is said about it here in the forum.

Compared to a few years ago, FCOM is cake to install right now but it is really essential to do it like described here. I would also recommend to install everything via BAIN Wrye Bash and not OBMM. I use Wrye Bash 295.5 Standalone Version and it is quite stable on my system.
Unfortunately there is not really an installation guide order for mods specifically - at least not one I am aware of -, also there is/was the Balo groups in Wrye Bash. Now there are even a few sides recommending installation order of mods. Take a look e,g to http://tescosi.com/wiki/User:Tomlong75210/BAIN_Package_List to get an idea.
Also essential is BOSS in respect of the load order and dirty edits.
Also recommended to clean with Tes4Edit.

Now to your actuall mods:
- I had problems with Deadly Reflexes 6 so I went back to 5. I heard that other people had no problems at all with it and a FCOM installation.
- If you use Alternative Start you do not really need KT_CustomRaceFix
- Be aware that Sounds of Cyrodiil, Storm and Sounds, etc. are coming along with a huge performance hit.

At the moment I have a moderate modded game running and it is running well. So maybe it will help you to compare.

I use StarX's Vanilla Vampires Revised with my FCOM install; you can play as a vampire, or it works equally well from the vampire hunter's perspective, along with Vampire Hunting OVB (an extension of the Order of the Virtuous Blood quest in the vanilla game). I have a level 30 vampire hunter, and let me tell you, StarX has done some truly frightening things with the vampire lairs.
If you're of the hunting persuasion, do yourself a favor and go get Light of Dawn (OOO) ... it's one of my favorite weapons in the whole game!

Just a report. Ive been playing off and on since the release of Oblivion. At no point have I ever achieved a stable game. Years of tinkering with mods, INI configurations, etc. Nothing really changed. At most I would get an hour before a crash.

Well I recently upgraded to the latest OSR DLL and the WIP configuration file. I also changed the heap size to 900 ( default 450 ). The only Oblivion INI modification I use is 4x ipreloadlimitsize.

I cant make the game crash if I try. Its bizaar. I no longer have to save the game every 5 mins. I'm no longer reminded every 40 mins that I'm playing an unstable video game. Its a thing of beauty.

Edit: Shik could you post your load order again. I'm interested in adding a few more mods but havent been able to find the thread where you posted your LO. Thanks.

I admit that these days I run a pretty decent rig, but even before I splurged to make the upgrade, crashing, freezes and stutter was something I was exceptionally lucky with and almost never experienced. Apart from using the latest beta FCOM and related mods my mod setup is almost identical now as it was on my old Pentium III.
Like most I use OSR and a very heavily tweaked Streamline. My game ini apart from some lighting adjustments is vanilla.
I've passed these settings to a few other users. Some had success. Others had results worse than before any alterations. Saying that, as your aware with Streamline ini settings it's a case of finding that sweet spot. Unfortunately that spot appears to be dependent on both your rig and mod setup and that varies hugely.
Glad you've finally found that happy medium.
I know that I'm biased, but a heavily modded FCOM game out-shoots anything else I've played in the gaming world. I guess that's why I've kept playing Oblivion for almost six years.
Skyrim is nice for a visit, but until the CK release and modders get their teeth fully into it there's just something missing.

Until then I'll still call Cyrodiil my home.
