[Relz} New Vegas Bounties

Post » Wed Nov 24, 2010 12:08 pm

I wasn't trying to offend you or anything, I'm just saying that there's more interesting ways to balance something than just giving an enemy unusable and inexplicably better equipment. I'd consider giving him more health (Though not bullet-sponge quantities of health), or some natural damage threshold or something, instead of the unplayable rifle to be better. Maybe even make him non-hostile to the Geckos that were near him, so you have to fight through them first and denying the option of waiting for him to take them out

Fair enough - the decision came down to offense vs. defense (to generalize), in that I was weighing the NPC's ability to dish out damage as opposed to their ability to absorb it. On some level it's subjective - I'd prefer a brief, lethal firefight to a prolonged slugfest, although several of the "bosses" have augmented HP (but nothing extraordinary, excepting the final boss). With a preference for offense, I asked myself, "How can I maximize the NPC's lethality in respect to the player, without unbalancing the game?" It's a crude method, but I thought that unplayable, powerful weapons (some of which have nasty enchantments like the Victory Rifle knockdown) in the hands of skilled bosses (who are outfitted with perks, increased skills, etc.) would achieve my goals. The mod's description says, "you will be confronted with dangerous opponents who are designed to frustrate and kill you." If possible, I want to achieve that end while leaving the game as balanced as possible.

Please don't misread my response - I'm not offended or anything, just know that I take my mod's quality very seriously and I'll continue to improve it. I appreciate your willingness to offer constructive criticism, and it will defnitely factor into the next update (that goes for everyone).

Is this more interesting than "go here, kill this guy, etc"? ie does it have a real storyline

I was actually going to make a topic recommending this mod, I played through v1.1 yesterday and loved it. Downloaded 1.2 earlier today and I'll be playing it soon to see what's changed and just to do some cool bounty missions again. Very fun mod overall, it had flaws, but nothing that really turned me off the mod, I kept playing and enjoyed it all the way through.

I'd like to think so - it's not a work of art by any measure, but yes, there is a plot and substantial character development for the primary quest giver, along with numerous notes to enrich each target's backstory. I hope you try it out!

Yea, it took a while, and after the first attempt (which took at least half an hour), the upload cancelled because of an issue with the mod's name (I had placed an incorrect symbol or some [censored]). This sent me into a nearly feral state of rage, so afterwards I resolved to never attempt another large-scale upload without imbibing considerable quantitities of alcohol beforehand.

But it was absolutely worth it, and I'm happy to see folks are enjoying the mod!

Really enjoying the mod.

Nice with the unique weapons as well, and that only some of the bounties have one. However, I just finished the bounty at Fields' Shack and he dropped The Equalizer shotgun that I already have from a previous (much earlier I think) bounty. So now I have two. Is it intentional for it to appear twice?

Also, I had killed Motorhead previously but he respawed when I went after the bounty for the fiend in the same area. Not that I minded.

The Equalizer was originally unplayable, then I made it playable (and toned down the stats). I had equipped two of the targets with it when it was unplayable, so I guess it's an accident.

Did you kill Motorhead or Motor-Runner? Motorhead should only spawn after you kill the targeted fiend (and he's got a note in his inventory that links him to Motor-Runner).

Oh yeah, I need to comment on that. I love how you've added so many notes. I do the same whenever I mod, I did an Andale house for FO3, just a basemant, but the terminal was full of notes detailing the life of the guy who used to live there, it just adds to the atmosphere and makes it feel more alive in a way.

So kudos on that. I'm also completely addicted to amassing obscene amounts of notes and recordings in my pip-boy :P

We're of one mind, brother - thanks for supporting the mod!

I'm listening to my Spaghetti Western music and working on the sequel as we speak. I won't say much, but my main objective is to add more choices (in dialogue, plot, etc.) for the player, and it's shaping up nicely. I hope to release it next month sometime.

Looking forward to it. I had a lot of fun with this mod. I also liked the connections to Fallout 3, with all the references to 1&2 in New Vegas already, this helps tie all the game together quite nicely.

You're right of course. I mixed up Motorhead and Motor-Runner.

Btw, I just picked up a third Equalizer from one of the McCaffery boys.

I've been getting Equalizers left and right throughout the whole thing, I don't mind, but if it's not intentional then I might as well add my voice to the crowd.

Thanks, man. I sure as hell didn't think it would be this successful when I put it together (and let's face it, quest mods seldom make it into the "Hot Files" category). It would be nothing if it weren't for the players who test it, provide constructive criticism, and then endorse it when it's working. Thank you for playing it and supporting it.

I'm busting my ass on the sequel, since I know plenty of players are anticipating it; all the endorsemants and support are a continuous motivator to ensure it's going to be a worthy successor to the first episode.

A friend of mine just asked me how much work goes into making a mod like this, and I told him about what the mod actually contains and so on in terms of work and functions, I think you may have inspired him to try his hand at modding. :)

I've now almost finished v.1.2, I've gotten to the part involving Javier. I really like how you added more dialogue to flesh out Randall and his backstory, it was...graphic :P But I enjoyed it, and it had just the right amount of humour for me to laugh out loud a few times without it just getting silly.

Urge,

That's great, I hope more people can get their original mods uploaded.

Yea, I wanted Randall's story to really hit the player in the gut; however, it's good to know that the humor was effective and served as a counterbalance to some of the morbid sections (that's what I'm shooting for, because I've always been impressed with that balance between darkness and ludicrous humor in the Fallout world).

Thanks again for the support!

Yeah exactly, i thought you managed that pretty well. I mean, the story about Ray Phillips was horrifying, but still kind of mordbidly funny.

Just popping in to say this mod is great.

Yes i love RPing a bounty hunter and all that, but the extra yards you took really make the difference between this mod and many others. the voice acting, the detail work with 'mark' histories, background and even the notes in the pip boy that give it depth and believability. LOVE IT!

Big thumbs up and eagerly awaiting your next venture.
