Remake Fallout 1 and 2 on SOURCE

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 12:22 am

the game already exists and it doesnt get much better. sure the graphics svck but fallout is all about the story and gameplay and it was never meant to be played any other way.

not saying i dont like fallout 3... id love to be able to play it for longer than 5 minutes at a time.... but its just a different breed in the same universe.

An HL2 mod for Fallout would be ONE THING: Day of Defeat done with FO monsters and characters. Pure multiplayer combat. There is NO way to apply S.P.E.C.I.A.L. or V.A.T.S. to any of the Half Life engines. The RPG element would be effectively dead.

I might add that both FO3 and HL2, themselves, use the same CORE engine: Havok. It's just configured differently for each product...and by "just", I mean "through years of effort by professionals who are both dedicated to their craft and paid reasonably well to devote 40+ hrs/wk to do it".

1. Not if you have direct access to the source code

2. Havok is just a physics engine, it is not the core. HL2 uses source, FO3 uses Gamebryo. If only they would use Euphoria

If your even remotely interested in Fallout 1 and 2, you need to play it as they are. No remake or mod can be as awesome as the originals. They are great games.

Actually this may be doable. I remember seeing on YouTube somewhere where someone had rebuilt Vault 15 from FO1 with Source. In first person.

Obviously the problems would be dialog trees, inventory, implementation of a world map, etc. It would be a butload of work. Rewarding though.

I believe those problems were rectified by the Dark Messiah team. Remember, it was built entirely on source, with inventories dialogue (I'm Australian) trees and a map if I am not mistaken.

Source engine is not able to handle enough big maps to have similar freedom feeling like in this game.
I don't need to see loading screens every time. I love Dark Messiah but it's another type of gameplay.
Really a strange idea to make a kind of Fallout in Source, regarding Cry Engine or Dunia engine possibilities...
I'm pretty satisfy with Fallout 3 in the actual engine. It's my point of view and modding will be easy even without a CS!

I've even sent email about F3 engine. It's too static, too "hard" - I would love to see F4... or F3... made with CryEngine2 *sigh* It would be so-[censored]-beautiful, completly.

And... i though about it, aboutremaking F1/2(or even 3) on CryEngine2(with Crysis you get whole Sandbox editor, so its a good start).
