Remake Fallouts 1 & 2

Post » Tue Nov 29, 2011 5:07 am

I'd rather see it with non-[censored] animations for the sprites. That's perhaps the only thing that pisses me off when people complain about Fo3. I think when I take an aimed shot with a sniper rifle I shouldn't fire from the hip. And that almost all weapons of the same type looked the same.

I'm always shocked when I hear Fallout 3 referred to as a "sequel" being that it has so little in common with the Classic Fallout's

Well, that's how Fallout will be from now on. Even NV. So yes, Fallout 3 is the next edition to the series, after Fallout 2.

You remind me one of those people that scour the Ubisoft boards because their Prince of Persia series has so little in common with the Classics from Jordan Mechner. ;)

At least each of the three main versions of the Prince of Persia series has been clearly advertised as a reboot of the franchise, not as a sequel to the previous ones.

The story at least, reserecting turnbased games I dunno, they are fun but look at jagged alliance, its just not going to take of in the mainstream market.

Still they have remade Monkey Island, and if Lucas can tear itself away from the mainstream their is hope for everyone.

Final Fantasy games are turn-based and are doing pretty well.

Most JRPGs are turn based and are doing pretty well. I think too many people believe that just because they don't like turn based combat, it's automatically not popular. The fact of the matter is that turn based is very popular, just look at the sales of Civilization IV, Final Fantasy, Pokemon etc. Turn based is a design choice, and a very common one. The reason Fallout 3 sold better than the first two isn't because it's real time, it's because Bethesda poured a lot of effort into a marketing campaign... something Interplay never did with the Fallout 1/2. The original two Fallouts had barely any advertisemant, a lot of people (myself included) didn't even learn of their existence until years after their release. I'm ashamed to admit that I didn't buy or play the Fallouts until Interplay did that dual-case campaign in their final days, one of the dual case titles being Fallout 1/2.

They remade it just to open it for the mainstream. Back in the beginning of the '90s, there was no 'mainstream' of gamers. Gaming was for nerds. ;)

Nope. The skeleton only had bullets in the original game. ;)

I don't really mind though it would be dumbed down version for all those youngsters here

(yeah I've read the topic)

Example:
because I never played the first 2 and I won't since they are turn base.

Well, peoples are getting really impatient these days :-D

well he is kinda right, today there isnt really a reason for turn based games on the tactical level.
(strategic games its another thing, thou HOI3 shows a great example of how a deep grand strategic game should be done)

the reason that FO3 sold better than the first two (beside the different time periods) is that FO3 is an awesome game and no one can persuade me otherwise.
and all those "old time" fallouters like me who say otherwise are just blind fools, just like any one would be a fool to buy a game that he is clearly not its target audience, FO3 is an awsome game by today standards for console kiddys and not for us, buying into promotions out of false sense of hope driven by nostalgic feelings is foolish.

the one thing you can be a consolt that while FO3 like oblivion (who already no one remembers that its a part of leder scrolls series) will be forgotten while FO like many other clasics will still live in our minds.

p.s. turn base its not a design decision unless taking the easy way is the one you refer too(and yes i play all CIV's (beside that console ver) and still have them, awesome games)

edit: sorry for double post i am used that double post are auto combined ...

But remember, fallout 3 is much more popular than any turn based game :tops: Anyway i hate JRPG, you end up in conflicts every second, its the same thing, over, over, you call dices, all the time, you cant run or else. I suspect old fans would hate even the way to fight of other iso perspective games like oblivion; what old fans really want is a carbon copy, maybe with some improved graphics, but nothing much, nothing radical, nothing that would demand a machine superior an pentium 3.

That's a flat-out, knee-jerk and inaccurate over-exagerration, and you very well know it.

Look at how FPS games have evolved over the past 10 years - I'd be categorically wrong if I were to say that just because you want real-time stuff in your game that you only wanted "carbon copies" of Duke Nukem - maybe with some better graphics but nothing radical, nothing that would demand a machine superior to a pentium 3. It's ludicrous to think someone who prefers turn-based would want the same as well - as if somehow by it's very design it inherently reached some critical mass of perfection back in '97 and there's nothing left to add to that genre.

There's tons of new options you could add to a turn-based game by making use of modern technology - procedural animation, sophisticated damage modeling, better AI, increased processing power, and so on. Just because you haven't bothered to think of the possible evolutions available to a turn-based game doesn't mean the rest of us haven't. Or that we're stuck in the past by some inherently twisted logic.

Chess.

(I think, thats Checkmate).

Oh, if you mean computer games, I'd say Civilisation beats it hands down.

Yeah, no kidding. The Civ series beats it hands-down for quality and popularity.

I've never done that myself... but I can totally agree with it (I still play the enhanced version and its great. Can you really say that the new ones stay true to the series gameplay?)

BoguS. Civ (or any game 'cept Go) beat Chess for quality?

Pokemon is the most popular turn based game, it's probably more popular than chess too, toddlers love that TB combat.

I would agree to that. :goodjob:
(I don't know it, but it sounds about right to me...)

*As for Toddlers...When you are very very young, its easier to distinguish what's best in life.

For myself I'd like nothing better than to have what you've described have been FO3 ~except... given the advanced hardware of the day, I'd fully expect it to drive a modern DualCore to its knees with reactive extrapolation of world events and effects ~Something like "Dwarf Fortress" to an extravagant extreme, but with DOW style graphics, and a text parsing chat bot in control of all NPC's that could pass the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turing_test, and that kept track of every significant player action throughout the entire life of the PC; along with "who saw what", and who could come top know of it later on...
Like a Chess engine, the game could be running through 100,000,000, NPC AI nodes while the player is planning their moves in the TB combat game...
See... I'd rather the game use those gigs on my drive for a database than an MP3 collection (*the largely insignificant NPC voice tracks). :P
