Remake Fallouts 1 & 2

Post » Tue Nov 29, 2011 11:51 am

I think it would be cool, I would rather have a new Fallout, but if it didn't affect future Fallouts then I think it would be nice, Fallout with better graphics is a win for everyone.

Because the stories were awesome and the new engine provides an opportunity to re-tell them in a better medium. There is a ton of back story out there and I know I'd love to see/play them using the new interface.

I would like, but the game will be very bad because there will be no good number of developers, plus working for free, and finally, Interplay just hate Bethesda, and such mods would be a sum fest at tribunals. Even if its done, probably it will be illegal.

Interplay hates Bethesda? Are you sure about that? Or are you saying they'll hate Bethesda for remaking it?

I could see a remake in the fashion of Final Fantasy remakes of their previous games, updated graphics but still keeping it 3rd person and turn based, fixing all the bugs officially, and adding a few new things, i always wanted to see the sentient racoons in FO1.

Well, there is the GECK. If there's enough interest, I could see some of the Modders taking it upon themselves to do it, but I wouldn't hold my breath for some sort of official remake. (Since I prefer turn-based over real-time to begin with, I personally wouldn't download it, though.)

Bethesda brough the assets. Bethesda is pressing Interplay for the MMO they promissed, and are in risk of losing the licence. So i think that people at Interplay now hate 'a little' Bethesda.

Bethesda already destroyed Fallout 3, and myself being a fan of the Classic Fallout's I would be totally disgusted with any remake. If anything, I'd like to see a remake of Fallout 3 into the Classic Fallout style(with a lot of other major changes too)...or perhaps one day...we might even see Van Buren!

how can someone refuse to play something thats turn based? it blows my mind. you're going to miss some of the best games in history: Chess, Civilization 1-4, Fallout 1-2, Final Fantasy 1-10.

I sincerely hope that as this person ages they will realize what they are missing. It's like a person refusing to watch movies that are black and white, or subtitled. goodbye Seven Samurai...

it's a genuine travesty

I'd like to see it, but only as a fan effort. I think if bethesda did it as a commercial product, it would be a bad idea...

Then go play the original first is my suggestion. There is no need for an "update" IMO. They would be better off just making new ones.

I would like it however if they were to bring the originals to the consoles.

with crappy low rez graphics? surely you jest :fallout:

Not at all... The game plays fine.

~As for a remake of Fallout using F3... The engine would likely have no trouble with the ISO-styled view (resulting in something sort of "Dawn Of War" looking, but I believe there is a curt limit on the length of a dialog in FO3, and most of the interior room tiles would have to be doubled in height ~and some exterior buildings would need roofs.)

[I expect that full TB gameplay could be done via clever script, and an abandonment of care for framerates]

Is anybody interested in seeing Fallout 1 & 2 re-made using the GECK in the new engine?

sure why not but i doubt it will be done properly since no chance in hell beth going to give you the right to use materials from the original FO in FO3
so for example big no no for all the original voice acting and so on...

anyway in worst case scenarion we will have another peace of FO universe and with something like the traveling mod (forgot his name) we can recreate more and more parts of it and later on build some more original ideas.

anyway from what i remember this mod is already underway, google it up...

I'd like to see the games remade with slicker 2-D graphics and a friendlier interface and inventory system, but generally I'd want to see the base gameplay remain intact. So, no. Fallout 1&2 are best as turn-based games, though I'd love to see them with a little more polish.

I say yes, remake them. I played Fallout 2, and played through a good part of Fallout 1, and I would love to see them in glorious 3D.

I think you can overlook Fallout's turn based combat since it was only a small part of the game, I don't think anyone is missing out on anything great if they don't play Chess, Jagged Alliance, Final Fantasy, or any other JRPG, Civilization is the only game I have ever played where I didn't mind the turn based gameplay, though I thought the combat was terrible for other reasons.

As long as it's not on the Gamebryo (the current Bethesda engine), a remake could be welcome. Gamebryo is [censored] buggy and is being pushed past it's limits as it is, a new engine would be welcome.

I disagree, with regards to chess most of all. Great game that, and a good way to practice thinking :) People are too impatient these days.

There's no reason to remake them, none at all; Fallout 1/2 are fine as they are.

If you wouldn't remake "The Green Berets", "The Godfather" or "Goldfinger", why the hell would you butcher a classic like Fallout 1 and Fallout 2. Newer products are generally [censored], and there is a lot of truth in the fact that older products are always better. Everything from classic Hollywood to cars, the quality was much better in yesteryear, rather than the watered down [censored], that we get stuck with now.

Yeah I think a Final Fantasy Tactics : Lions War? esque remake would be great.

For those that dont know, the FFT remake fixed a lot of bugs added in more cutscenes and also added some stuff that was never implmented, but kept the gameplay the same. Id love to see them SLIGHTLY tweak some of things in the first 2, particularly the chem exploits and Action exploits and retune the temple of trials so it does not turn off 90% of the people who pick it up. Having to hex kite begging level creatures isnt challenging its dumb.

I love the first two but the constant bugs are maddening, and the fact that 3rd parties have to patch them is maddening.

Also the massive amount of content that was never implemented in 2 particularly would be nice, seriously Interplay is terribad its missing a sure fire way to make money.

Heres a fire starter, Im hoping inetrplays corpse finally cools so Betheseda can get the entire FO liscence so they can do said remake.

I hope that never happens... (not that the remains of interplay are anything special... though they should be.)

~But as I understand it... Bethesda owns Fallout and leased it back to Interplay, so I'd assume they are within their rights to do whatever their fancy might be on any given day.
