Remaking Fallout and Fallout2

Post » Tue Dec 29, 2009 5:56 pm

I don't care why they didn't put the effort in to make a 3D game. It just sounds like excuses. The late '90s were not a time when 3D was the cutting edge of technology on the PC. That is just ridiculous.

The bird's eye view graphics aren't the only problem. There's also the turn-based combat, and the weird zig-zag movements of the character.

Interplay is trying to steal back Fallout with their project Fallout Online. It probably will have the same isometric graphics too. lmao. they're just lazy.

All your raving about "F3 beign superior to the crap-graphicsed F2" is a highly subjective matter, but that still does not make F3 better, from an objective point of view.

Why do you sound like the graphics HAS to be the main focus of ANY game is way beyond me though. Tell that to the players of Mount and Blade with their "crap-low-poly" graphics then. See what answer ya'll get :teehee:

Some people think the latest graphics and the more pointless things that go boom are what make a game great. When Devs put alot of work into graphics it leaves less room for story. New gamers get raised on games that have little to no story but alot of things that go boom! and FO3 has alot of things that go Boom! for no reason.

I'd rather call Bethesda lazy for basically making Oblivion With Guns with a storyline ripped off from it's predecessors and having a knight in shining armor vs evilzors morality.

It's trolling to express an opinion? I'm not a "Fallout fan" if that means someone who likes the entire series. I only like the games produced by Bethesda. It's odd to think that could be trolling when this is a Bethesda forum.

Do you really believe Fallout Online would be 3D? And I'm not talking, "3D isometric". Don't let them fool you with their concept art. Especially since all these "true fans" rushing to defend Interplay's honor love playing from a bird's eye view. They gotta listen to their fans....

Hopefully Interplay loses the lawsuit. I don't have to like Fallout 1 & 2 to be a fan of Fallout 3 and NV.

Yes, it's a good story....but if I want a good story only I can read a book.

Have you played the first three games or at least tried them out?

I tried playing Fallout 2 for a few minutes. It's just not as fun.

I knew the game's graphics would not be great, so the fact that I bothered to try it shows I'm not really a graphics troll. In fact the graphics aren't as much a problem for me as the turn based combat. That's what I couldn't stand. It's so dull waiting to hit an ant. I'll pass.

The temple of trials is the worst part of Fallout 2, don't tell me you just quit before you got to The Den?

To be honest, those games have terrible graphics compared to Fallout 3. Look at Half-Life (1998), it came out in the same time period they made it a 3D game. The Elder Scrolls: Redguard was also 3D. How hard would it have been really? Even in Van Buren, Interplay was still planning on using the same old graphics. Fallout 3 would have not been so enjoyable had that happened. Bethesda took Fallout and made it better. sorry if that's controversial.

The graphics are decent in my opinion. And Van Buren was going to be 3D.

Fair enough then.

Actually, I don't give a damn about cosmestic baloney as long as the game has some of the spirit that made me waste 8 years of my life on this franchise. :fallout:
I wasn't complaining when I saw the first F3 screenshots either.
However, unlike you I'm not going to screech at the top of my lungs if I'll find out that FOnline will be made in 2D(hypothetically speaking) with turn based mechanics. Mainly because I don't mind. That company is not a government and owes you(and me) nothing after all. Less entitelment complexes plox!

Hopefully Interplay loses the lawsuit. I don't have to like Fallout 1 & 2 to be a fan of Fallout 3 and NV.

First off, these "old fallouts" you despise so much were made by Black Isle(basicly Obsidian, creators of NV) not Interplay, so it doesn't really matter if they lose the lawsuit or not.
Second, no, you don't have to be a fan of the series, but you CAN expect some counter-arguments from the other side when it comes to discussing the "what is objectively better" matter.

Yes, it's a good story....but if I want a good story only I can read a book.

Oh so now a good written plot should be exclusive to books only?
With this logic, I could say that cutscenes should be played only on TVs then and nowhere else

Why?
They're not exactly games that require good computer specs.
Basically, you have a computer? Then you can play the fallout games.
Unless you have a computer from like the 80's.

I prefer gaming on my PS3 instead of my comp, that's why. Just my own personal preference.

Fallout 1/2's graphics weren't that great but going from 2D to 3D doesn't always have to mean it looks better.

Okay, feel the same way about my 360.
Sure L4D could be a bit more smoother on the PC but other than that and the old-school RPG's I love playing with a controller.

Fallout's graphics weren't bad back in 1998. And the cutscenes were spectacular http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_G9JZ353_Vo.

Edit: I love 2:18. "Welcome to the Enclave". So diabolical.

Unfortunatly some people actually believe this. They are too ignorant to play the originals simply because 'ugh horible grafics it old'. These are the same people who like games to be shiny with lots of explosions and little to no story. Sad shape of the game industry today...

But how could you NOT enjoy long load times every thirty seconds, clunky controls, and a half-assed storyline? That's the epitome of excellent game design right there.
