I can't really imagine the usefulness of achievements. What are they made for?
They're made to tap into the OCD many people have, to a greater or lesser extent. It helps make a particular game more addictive. And then when a DLC (with more possible achievements!) comes out.....
Or I'm cynical and it's really just harmless optional extra fun that didn't take much dev resource.
I know for Microsoft you get rewards that are worth some cash so for some players achievements are important. I personally do not care for them at all. Actually I wish I could disable them for all games. That is one great thing about mods for Xbox One it disables that feature.
I have nothing of interest to add but omg why can't it be October 28th RIGHT NOW. I AM SO EXCITED FOR THE REMASTER I COULD VOMIT A MUDCRAB
I'm console and have never tasted mods. Oh, and I never got around to getting Hearthfire nor Dawnguard. So this is going to feel so new to me OH GOD THIS WAITING IS TORTURE
Despite how much [censored] I give Skyrim, I do miss my first playthrough of the game. The game had released during a hard time I was having in life and it was one means of lifting my spirits. I do hold fond memories of the game and I do aim to replay it when the remaster hits with a whole new fresh start. Perhaps upon playing it for the first time in a long while I will gain a new appreciation for it.
Me too, nothing worse in a game like Skyrim then little pictures of trophy's etc popping up and breaking your immersion.
I can imagine how bad it would be on the Xbox One, Try playing GTA V on an Xbox One, Every 2 minutes you get a popup telling you it's taken a screenshot or recorded a video etc of your gameplay, Only happened on GTA V and I never could figure out how to disable it.
First, sure I remember how great Skyrim was in the beginning - just as great as every one of its predecessors were in their own times Skyrim's still that great today (well, even more so for me because now there are almost 50k mods to choose from!) The remaster's not going to change that for me, because I'm just not going there even though it would be free - because a crap-ton of the mods I use rely on SKSE and who knows how long it will be before they get that going with SSE? My sister's going to download the remaster for me so I'll have it (I don't have the bandwidth to download something that large) but I won't be installing it right away, if ever.
Now, I don't ever get the achieve pops because I never let steam connect online.... There's no reason to - I don't use game front-ends as social media programs. I don't use social media period. I don't care about silly achievement stuff. I think I got over that about 65 years ago....
Like several others here I play Skyrim offline. I have no idea how many Achievements I have, and I don't care. I think Achievements are idiotic. I'm an advlt. I don't need kindergarten stars to motivate me to play a video game.
I believe those features can be disabled within the console settings. I do not play GTA V but I have disabled everything that deals with social, uploading of videos, etc. The extra benefit is that the games seems to run better.
aah ok, thanks for the answer. I sold my Xbox One and invested the money back into my PC so it's no longer an issue.
Same here.
but... what about Skyrim coop mode? It would be awesome! With tougher dungeons, better loot... But, i don't really want something even slightly similar to WoW or to an mmo. Too many elitist jerks. I'd like just an honest possibility to play together with 2-3 other players to coordinate with. No item levels, no lame stuff.
You mean like http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/67038/?mod?
Exactly.
The only problem could be... 4 dragonborn at a time?
a) there could be the possibility to choose one and only one who is able to shout
and/or
b ) introduce a lore twist in which other dragonborn come from the past for a limited time due to unknown instabilities. The dungeons should be really tough.
I could dig playing with another person or two. But the day Elder Scrolls or Beth becomes like WoW and Blizzard, I'm outta here in a shot.
Yeah. SO not going there. If something comes up for those that would like it, to play with a couple of friends all in the same "local" environment, fine. Other than that.... I'd be outta here. I did my time in wow and rift - and truthfully I enjoyed them for a while and for what they gave me - a non-static, ever-changing world in which to play (and I spent a LOT of money enjoying them....) but I HATED the lack of privacy, the mega-push to force group play (which is in wow's legion I understand, simply FORCED without any "pretense"), and the whole "game as social media" crap.
Not EVER going there again.
What Blizz has done to WoW (and their other titles) is what happens when you're just in it for "increasing shareholder value" and profit, while everything you do is geared toward squeezing another nickel out of your customer base and player's input be damned. When a dev resorts to in-game "selfie" cams to pander to the Facebook idiots, you know it's way past time to GTFO.
And of course, everyone knows what Jay Wilson & crew did to D3 after the Blizz North people jumped ship.
I haven't posted on this forums since 2011 (when I first finished the original version), and I still think it's great. I look forward to the remaster, if only for one thing. 64 bit and possibly better scripting and other improvements to the original limitations.
I just got finished playing through again, and one thing stuck out to me for some reason. The ambient music of Whiterun. It's beautiful. I think there's something intangible about that music that reflects the reason why this game is one of my all time favorites.
