What I thought they were introducing and I still believe is necessary relates: remote accessibility of all companion wheels, prompting the last utilized to popup first and necessarily the capacity to shift between wheels while that interface is up. Instead of a "move back" function in the wheel, the pipboy's local map needs a prompt, so as to direct your companion's destination with a "wait here" function applied when they reach their destination.
I just as soon assume that the player and each companion has access to walkie talkie technology and either that connection could be hotkey accessible from the Misc. list or solely accessed from the local map on your pipboy (though is would make an equal amount of sense to initiate communication from the regional map, I had already mentioned directing movement from the local map... I assume simplification is optimal).
The primary benefits would be apparent when establishing crossfire or signaling a retreat (even as a lure to bird-dog enemies out of hiding and into your iron sights). Players employing a modded quantity of companions would probably find this degree of accessibility a vast improvement.
Please alleviate my ignorance if a version of this kind of control already exists without console commands
