Remove Solidshield from the Steam version

Post » Sun May 08, 2011 9:10 am

There's no need to use Solidshield on the Steam version of the game. The Steam platform has its own workable DRM system (you need to be logged into your Steam account to play your purchased games) and activation limits violate one of Steam's main principles (the game is tied to your account, not your computer).

What's worse is that there was no disclosure before and some time after release that Solidshield was being used in the game and that there was a 5 machine activation limit. Admittedly there is a note on the Steam store page now that says Solidshield is being used but there's still no mention of the 5 machine activation limit.

I'm waiting for the day when Solidshield is removed from the Steam version so that I can give you my money. You do want people buying the game don't you?

I bet the cracked version doesn't have that activation limit. Oh and gotta love the secrecy around it.

Absolutely unacceptable. I preordered the game on steam, and if I had known activation limits were going to be used I wouldn't have touched it. But I guess that's the point of hiding it. I don't know how the hell they get away with it. Crysis and Warhead on steam still have install limits so I would bet this is never going to be patched out. I actually lost 3 activations on the game because I updated my video drivers. This is on STEAM. Once I run out of activations I'm going to have a worthless unusable game stuck on my account. Looks like once again, I have to crack a game I legally bought. That's the last dollar I give to these crooks.

This

activation limit is the most useless thing ever to walk the earth.
It dosent stop cheaters or pirates as they crack

speaking of steam fail, my friend bought DA2 on steam and they ran out of CD keys. So I
to play the game he paid for he had to use a crack *facepalm*

Solidshield fails big time if you lose an activation just by updating your graphics card drivers.

Solidshield isn't meant to be an anticheat solution either but I'll definitely agree that it doesn't stop piracy.

The retail version is already available online for free if you know where to look. That just proves how useless it is.

Wow. I leave this thread for a day and it gets bumped down to page 10.
