Removing files from New Vegas completely (audio in this case

Post » Thu Sep 17, 2009 2:04 pm

Earlier I made a topic to the bug forum concerning audio that would play randomly every once in a while. In this case female moaning.
None of the answers I got helped, and I still hear it in game to this day.
This will NOT do. I opened up G.E.C.K, checked the audio files and found the audio file that I kept hearing. Expect there is no way to delete it. Everytime I do,
it just says it's no longer connected to triggers. Which is cool, but they were not triggered to play randomly during my playthrough either so that's as reassuring
as nothing. I mean when I delete it, it stays there. The sound file is still in the game, and plays randomly every damn time I play.

Please for the love of all that's holy, tell me that there is a way to access fallout's audio files and delete the damn audiofile for good! I can't play the game peacefully
until I know the sound is gone for good. :sadvaultboy:

Hi saneroot,

You can try cranking up the 'static attenuation' slider farther to the right; the farther to the right it is, the quieter the sound effect is. Save it as an .esp, enable it in the launcher, and see if it silences the sound. It might be worth a try.

Just make an ArchiveInvalidation.txt file in your data folder, and add the path to that sound file to it. It tells the game not to look in the BSAs for that file- in theory, so you can provide a replacement file, except of course you don't have to.

I went for the static attenuation, saved the .esp and loaded it up at the data files. However the sound comes randomly so I am not sure if it worked or not.
Sorry but it's so uncertain and sudden when it happens. I'll be glad if this worked, but I'd still not be completely sure if it would be gone for good.

And about the ArchiveInvalidation, a stupid question: the path, should it be in the form of "Sound\audiofile.ogg" or "C/folder/FalloutNewVegas/sound/audiofile.off"?
(Forget the way I put the slashes, that's not the point)

You could point it to FX\xxx_placeholder_silence.wav to effectively remove it without potentially messing up whatever triggers it. What is the sound in question's Editor/FormID? I could see if I can find out why it's recurring like that and maybe fix it with an .esp.

Filepaths: SOUN records automatically look in Data\Sounds\, so 'FX\xxx_placeholder_silence.wav' is as much as you'd need to type in for the above edit.

The only possible sound files in GECK are AMBGomorrahProstSleep and AMBGomorrahProstSleepB. But the actual sound files are:

amb_gomorrah_prostsleep_01
amb_gomorrah_prostsleep_02
amb_gomorrah_prostsleep_03
amb_gomorrah_prostsleep_04

As you can see, they are quite disturbing. Not fun to listen while playing. :P I'll try the xxx_placeholder_silence.wav thing, though I'm not all that good with GECK yet, I guess I can figure it out somehow.

So, was it Sara, Joan, or Red Lucy? The only references to those sounds are by scripts for...scenes. Knowing which of the three would help. I'd just assume kill this bug, if that's what it is, before encountering it as those sounds would be ...distracting to say the least. Is this happening with the vanilla game, like there aren't any mods running which would be messing with the scripts?

The strange thing is, I never engaged with any of those characters. It just started playing one time I left New Vegas. So I can't say which of the three for there was none. :(
My only mod is some armor mod, and I've tried disabling it and it wasn't any different.

Ah... In that case, somehow one of the scenes must have been triggered when it shouldn't have been and is evedently not stopping either.

Load each of http://www.mediafire.com/?mlw5wu3s27gh5by, maybe, and see which if any stops the moaning sounds?

I will definitely try this tomorrow when I get off work. Thank you a lot for your help, I will post the results after playing for a while tomorrow. But now, off to sleep. Cheers. :]

Hope one of 'em helps. :) If not, a filepath redirection will work for sure.

Loaded up the datafiles, logged in. No moaning. Whatever you did, it seemed to work. Thanks a lot for your help!

Ah. One of those persistent activators was playing that sound, evidently. Can you try with one of the three at a time an lemme know which one made the moaning stop? If I know which one, I can probably UL an .esp with a revised script so the activator will still work as those plugins outright removed the scripts.
