Removing A Program

Post » Sun Sep 26, 2010 12:49 am

Well I was rummaging around on collegehumor and thought their links were safe going against my better judgement. Apparently my laptop got infected with a trojan32 virus and Windows prompts me to run Microsoft Think Point. This programmed scanned everything then said it didn't have what it needed to help me out asking for CC information. Automatically I saw a red flag go up and downloaded avast having to use a thumb drive to bypass the lock on my internet browsing software. How exactly do I go about removing Think Point since i'm hearing that this program is a Fake AV software.

Unfortunately, you fell for it the second you allowed it to do a "scan", it was a fake AV that pretends to be Microsoft Security Essentials. It also is very new, so not much information on it yet

Ya i'm starting to think my laptop maybe toast and i'll have to complete reformat the whole thing which will piss me off to no end.

*Edit*

Thanks for the information DEFRON i'll be sure to keep it on hand. Just did a scan with AVAST and shutdown the laptop then rebooted it. Didn't get the prompt this time that Think Point needs to scan my system and everything seems alright. However i'm going to go through my task manager and see if it's still running the hotexe file. Did notice that AVAST caught the hot.exe file which maybe why it booted up correctly.

If you clicked the link, you would have found out it isn't that hard to get rid of.
