Removing static light fixture glow.....

Post » Tue Mar 30, 2010 8:39 am

Lots of light fixtures come in an 'on' or 'off' state with the on state having a built-in "glow". Is this glow part of the .dds texture? I have a bunch of lights being switched and when they are off, there is still the glow coming from the fixture..... so technically they are not 'off'. If it is part of the texture, is there an easy way to script the exchange of the 'off' fixture for the 'on' fixture?
Thanks.

I believe the glow map is a separate texture, but I'm not sure if you can change it via scripting. For items that have a proper premade on and off version, it'd probably be easier to place both in the same place, set the "off" version as the enable parent (opposite state) to the "on" version and the actual light, and just disable/enable the "off" version to get your switch. No scripting necessary.

If a fixture has no premade "off" version, you may have to edit the .nif in Nifskope to remove the reference to the glow map.

Usually the extra glow we see in the lights is an entirely different mesh/object that you can simply delete to make it go away (if your talking about the over-pronounced affect of huge glow from room lights as though the room were filled with smoke).

In niftscope there was a _g.dds glow attached to the fixture and that was all I could find. Weirwynn's solution of switching the 2 fixtures (on and off versions) works like a charm. You see one version in the enable state and then the other version in the disable state. The off version is just hidden beneath the on version.
