Removing Trees?

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 8:48 am

So I was following the tutorial steps for connecting my vault to the outside world. During this process, there were some annoying trees in the way, so I removed them.

http://img695.imageshack.us/f/clearlynotrees.jpg/ - As you can see, there are no trees here.

But when I boot up the game!! O_____O

some really awful looking trees are there. - http://img203.imageshack.us/f/treeeeees.jpg/

Any ideas?

You have to recreate the LOD trees for the entire worldspace.

I then removed the LOD files until I found the one file that updated the trees in the cells I changed to include only that LOD tree file with my mod.

When you recreate the LOD trees, the files will be placed here:
\Fallout 3\Data\Textures\landscape\trees\

Well.... I decided to move the entrance and cover the trees with giant rocks :-D

Okay, but it only takes a few minutes to recreate the Tree LOD files. They are pretty small compared to other LOD generation jobs.

Uh, have you looked at the toolbar of the GECK?

>World >World LOD

On the pop-up window, click Generate Trees button.

Yeah sorry. It's just that I get a warning that it could take hours.... Although you did mention it should only take minutes?

Thought I was looking at the wrong thing.

Yes, the other Generate buttons can take hours and sometimes days, depending on your computer. My computer is very fast, the trees only take about 20 seconds, perhaps faster.

OK, I have been trying that, using the generate trees button, But I'm still seeing the trees, So, If I'm reading this thread right, there is a file that it generates? Where is that file located at?
I do not have this directory:

\Fallout 3\Data\Textures\landscape\trees\

So, I have no file in there.. I can create the directory, But not where the file is at to put in it.. ??

thanks for the help,

The trees will only be regenerated if the folder is empty. If there is a file in there, it will NOT over-write them.

I created the folder path. I can't remember for sure, but I think the files are 'generated' somewhere else first. Its been a while since I did it.
You can search your drive for "wastelandhedgerow01.dds" and it should find where they are.

I did a little eyeball work, and found that the geck is creating a directory here..

Fallout 3\Data\textures\Landscape\LOD\Wasteland\Trees

then fills it with 71 files, .DTL Files, like this one...

"Wasteland.Level8.X0.Y0.DTL" .. all with different numbers..
and this file is also in there...
"TreeTypes.lst"

deleting them, moving them, kicking them in the teeth, does nothing.. the LOD Trees are still in the game... Is there no way to get rid of them???? this is getting agravating.. Ive read through 20+ threads about this, and none of them help in removing them... I dont want to start another area, I just want to clean up, and start in the wasteland...
Thanks...

In my extract of the default installation, those files are located in Data\meshes\Landscape\LOD\Wasteland\Trees, not in the textures directory. Try deleting the folder in the meshes directory, regenerating, and moving the folders from where they are generated in the textures directory to where they were in the meshes directory.

You also need to have some form of Archieve Invalidation or you cannot change resources in the vanilla objects list.

Ugh, Yes you are correct, they are created in the meshes directory, not the textures, I moved them in to the textures dir. But no matter where they are, I still see the trees..... messing with the wasteland is doing me no good, I will find me another spot to inhabit..
Thanks for the help..

Willie, I do have archive Invalidation. And use FOSE, and FOMM.

Im Just not good enough to make it work.. Oh well huh.. :)

Thanks for the help..
