Render window problem

Post » Sun May 08, 2011 6:24 am

I can't even seem to get started using G.E.C.K.!!!
I've watched the tutorial. However, when I load G.E.C.K. I get objects, cell, and render windows seperate (unlike on the video). When I try to drag an object into the render window; because I have to click on an item to move it, the render window becomes inactive, which means it's impossible to do. W.T.F.!!??
I tried uninstalling and re-installing without the update to see if the older version was the same as seen on the vid, but no luck.
I know it's probably something completely infantile I'm not doing correctly, but can somebody humour me, and explain what to do (or not to do) so I can get on with learning how to use G.E.C.K.?
It's incredibly frustrating not to be able to get past the inital steps!!!

This is natural for alot of folks starting in the GECK, don't get too frustrated. :) The GECK has a steep learning curve.

When you drag an item into the render window, its okay that it becomes inactive for a second. Once you single-left click-and-hold an object, then drag the mouse over the render window. As the mouse crosses into the render window, the cursor will change to an arrow with a little plus-sign. Move it close to where you want it and let go of the left-button. Try a few times if it doesn't work the first time.

Check the tutorial thread at the top, it contains links to alot of the Bethesda- and modder-made tutorials.

Keep your chin up, things will get easier as you use the GECK more.

Luck!

The 3 windows that you get are all adjustable and moveable so you can set the geck up to suit your style--from my experirence no 2 modders have it quite the same, so don't judge how your's looks compared to others.
What Miax said about dragging objects is right, but I would also add that even when things are added to the render window, they may not appear where you think they should. :brokencomputer: The number of times I have drug the same object to the render window only to discover it was being placed "behind" a wall, "under" a floor, etc., is too numerous to count. :hubbahubba: The learning curve is steep but well worth the climb!
