Render window white

Post » Tue Oct 13, 2009 6:53 pm

My render window is white but if I pull it clicked it can area-highlight objects anyway. I had this problem before, but usually restarting cs, or PC if necessary was enough. However this time, that didn't helped. I tried reinstalling the cs, but it's still the same.

Any advices?

Have you tried updating your video card's drivers?

I used cs normally second before it turned that way, can they be relevant then?

I would try anyway. Just to see.

EDIT: Try this first. Open the construction set, click file, then preferences. Drag the clipping distance all the way over to far if it isn't already. If it is, or that doesn't work, click renderer settings and be sure hardware is checked instead of software.
Let me know if this works.

Hi Chaka - it is likely that your CS is running in 16Bit colour instead of 32 - there's http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1100513-render-window-not-rendering/ on the same page as this that has the answer :)

However just in case you don't want to scroll down to it - here's what to do as written by DARoot:

1: Uninstall the Construction Set;

2: Re-set your Desktop Resolution to 640 X 480 (certainly no more than 800 X 600) and 16-bit color
(Don't panic! We'll set it back later!) This is, as I recall, what you end up with after one of those Morrowind Full-Computer lockups that involve "pulling the plug" (e.g., even Alt-Tab and CTRL-ALT-Delete cannot save you) - after "DEFRAG" finishes it's thing, while telling you that "Windows was improperly shut down" - just get a cuppa your favorite beverage, and wait..
Never had one, Patrice? Heh, Heh, keep playing the game...

3: Reinstall the Construction Set. Open it, see if the Render Window now works.
(Think the CS Installer "reads" your current desktop resolution when installing, and this installer was written a long time ago, when 1920 X 1200 Widescreens and such were nonexistent)

Checked that already, it's all normal so it's not the cause.

Thanks, however about the step 2. I don't have an option to set it bellow 800x600, so is that alright?

:) I think this is one of those lost in translation things

DARoot - was explaining that on of the reasons the render window can go white is when you have some sort of system lock up and have to turn the power off on your pc in order to restart - typically if you do that then you run defrag to clean up your system again.

It was more of a joke than anything to do with resetting your resolution. Just ignore it :)

 I was already utterly confused trying to find a logical explanation to connect the two
So after installation I simply set the resolution and 16color and reinstall? Is that all?
Thanks again for help and enormous patience!
