[WIPz/RELz] Reneer's Dialog Mod

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 4:03 am

A pity :( ! Have any more items on your to-do list for this mod ? And does the latest version incorporate the following changes :
. The name of the actor who talked the response : For instance, something like Rohssan(formatted in bold or something alike ) : Welcome to A Fighting chance.
. A spacer b'ween 2 printed responses.
Yes and yes.

Text looks like this:

NPC Name:

Dialog

NPC Name:

Dialog Two

I'm looking into trying to completely overall the dialog system, or at least make it so that player responses can be longer than 38 characters.

I know you don't like me, but bear with me - I thought that limit was hardcoded ! Have you found anything that points otherwise ?

It is hard-coded, but that doesn't mean there aren't ways of getting around it. :P

After testing:

1.) The limit isn't hard-coded at all (just need to modify ConstructionSet.ini file and modify values.)
2.) There is no big issue with having multiple lines of text in the player's responses, aside from the little 'selection' thing not filling up everything.
3.) Version 0.93 should have the ability to deal with multiple lines of text for player responses, as well as a modified UI.

Reneer's Dialog Mod 0.93 Released!

0.93 - Completely changed how Oblivion's dialog menu looks and functions. Added in support for multiple-line player responses. Modders need to modify the ConstructionSet.ini file in order to increase the number of characters the player's response will have.

I suspect this will make a lot of quest makers very happy. Nice find! I just recently reinstalled Morrowind and had forgotten just how much better that dialogue was. It's great to see it coming to Oblivion.

First, let me say that this is bloody brilliant. However, I'm experiencing some http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/dd171/misterPEB/ScreenShot27.jpg, and I was wondering if it was normal.

First, as you can see from the top left of the image, I'm getting text describing what menu item my cursor is hovering over.

Second, my available dialogue topics are very far apart... are they supposed to be?

Third, the gold colour of the dialogue topics is very hard to read on top of the message box. I know that that's Oblivion's original colour, but a darker colour would make it easier to read (I don't know if that's a possibility; I have NO idea how that kind of thing works)

Finally (this isn't an issue with the mod per se, as it seems to working just as it's supposed to be. More like a feature request or somesuch), sometimes, after a character speaks his/her last line of dialogue, I get kicked back into the game (out of the dialogue menu). This is supposed to happen, but since the speech box doesn't automatically scroll down, I can't read that last line of dialogue. Usually, I'll wait until I have dialogue options, and then scroll up and read to the bottom before speaking (for a reason similar to #3, AND because I currently play with no sound at all, I can't read the dialogue lines as they appear). Since I get kicked out of dialogue mode WITHOUT receiving dialogue topics, I have no chance to scroll up and read what the character said. I was wondering if there was any workaround to this.

There seems to be an issue with anyone who has a drastically changed UI like Darnified, because all the text ends up way off center of the menus. When I turn off the .esp and try to play the game it crashes - I'm guessing that's because of the altered xml file.

Could anyone provide me with the original?

That makes sense, as I'm using DarNified Dark UI.

Nevermind, I got it fixed.

There might have to be alternate xml files for different UIs available.

Oops. I forgot to remove that after testing. I'll fix it soon.

Yes, they need to be in order to allow for multiple response lines from other mods.

Third, the gold colour of the dialogue topics is very hard to read on top of the message box. I know that that's Oblivion's original colour, but a darker colour would make it easier to read (I don't know if that's a possibility; I have NO idea how that kind of thing works)
I can easily change that.

Hmm. I didn't think of this occurrence... and I don't think there is any way to get around it at the moment.

Not to be rude, but it does say in the ReadMe that this mod currently isn't compatible with UI modifications like Darnified UI. And it also is a good idea to back up the old XML files before you use this mod (this is also mentioned in the ReadMe.)

Oh, well that is my mistake then.

I've modded and played Morrowind extensively for about four years and I guess I jumped the gun on this one.

He-He  New version ! The limit wasn' hard coded, you say - I clearly remember someone saying ( and many others agreeing ) that it was and the change to the CS ini file didn't change things in-game  I shall see how it works out with my new-born installation. And how about posting an updated screenshot and/or video ?

2 questions :
. Can you make the response box auto-scroll ?
. If a picture makes a 1000 words, how much pixels does a video make ?

This looks really nice! I'd too appreciate it if the text field would automatically jump to the beginning of the newest response.
One question - why is there so much space between the topics at the left side? Are there some invisible topics in between?
