[WIPz / RELz] Reneer's NPC Sneak Mod

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 7:34 pm

So I happened upon a thread that requested that NPCs, when sneaking, are a little bit harder to detect. So I concocted a little mod to make that request a reality.

Note: Currently this mod requires OBSE 17 or above to run!

Description:
This mod allows NPCs to lower their opacity (become more transparent) if they are sneaking, or if the player has a lower Sneak skill than their combatant (but only for several seconds, then the effect disappears on the combatant).

If you find any bugs in this mod, please send me an e-mail!

Download:

Feel free to give any comments about the mod, the mechanics, etc!

I'll give it a try, I like the idea. It should be compatible with mods like Stealth Overhaul and (your own) Guard Overhaul?

I'll look into it. Probably just a logic error in the scripts. Expect a fix in the next day or so. :)

Great idea for a mod. Like always you manage to add something that we can't play without after we give it a try.

Cheers,
Pushkatu!

I can't seem to reproduce this bug (non-sneaking NPCs being transparent) - does anyone else have it / can give me some more information about it?

I got the same thing, I was travelling through the road fighting invisible giants, wolves, boars and bandits. The effect did go away after a couple of seconds, though. I'll try to help you gather some more information if you tell me what you need.

The bandits are supposed to be invisible (at least, they must have a sneak skill better than you). The transparent creatures are obviously a bug.

Interesting idea to have them transparent if they have high Sneak even if they're not actually sneaking... but it could lead to some weirdness, right? Does it only apply to hostile NPCs?

Only in combat (with the player, and only for several seconds) OR if the NPC is actively sneaking.

I get the bug as well. From what i've seen it is specific to the spawn point for creatures, rathar than each creature itsself- but that could need more testing. Also, i've noticed dead NPCs- that when alive, had the transparancy- are sometimes bugged as well. after leaving and reentering the cell, they sometimes flash transparent and back quite rapidly.
Other than that, Awesome. I personally would like to see it a bit more centered around the NPC's sneak level. For example, a lvl 100 Sneak NPC should be nearly (if not) invisible when sneaking to a lvl 25 sneak player. But a level ~50 NPC should only be minorly transparent, when sneaking in this situation.
Also, any chance of an option to turn off the transparent non-sneaking NPC's? Admittably, i could'nt understand half of the script in there! :biglaugh:

Hmmm.... SetActorAlpha to (100 - (NPCSneak - PCSneak)). The greater the difference between sneak skills, the greater the transparency.

Why do you always have to make such great mods? I'll download as soon as the transparency issue is fixed.

The transparency issues (on creatures and NPCs) have been fixed... I'm just too lazy / not finding the time to upload the fixed version. In my opinion, both TESNexus and PES need to reorganize their uploading procedures to streamline them a bit more.

Did you have a long break from Oblivion mods or was just some weird idea I had gotten?

I would appreciate that upload too. Some creatures, regardless of how low my sneak skill is, just aren't meant to sneak. Like ogres. It would be neat if some creatures, such as wolves and goblins, could sneak while most couldn't, but if it's all or nothing, I'd prefer nothing.
