[RELz/WIPz] Reneer's Rain Mod

Current version: 0.96

Description:
This mod is deceptively simple: it stops rain from appearing when the player is underneath a building. It also creates "rainfall" on the outside of buildings (but not in interiors).

This mod is still in development, and as such it may not always work properly - rainfall may not appear in appropriate areas, it may be off at an angle, etc. If you encounter these sorts of errors, please contact me and describe where the error occurred (what area, underneath what building, etc).

Feedback in general would really be appreciated - even if the mod works perfectly for you. :)

Changelog:
0.96 - Fixed issues with transitions between rain / covered weather.
0.95 - Recoded the mod - uses a new system and new meshes and textures created by Windmill Tilter.
Edit: Mod should also be compatible with all other Weather-based mods. In theory, at least.
Edit2: 0.95 has been reuploaded. Again. This time it was my fault. Make sure you have both ReneerRainMod.ESP and ReneerRainMod.BSA in your Data folder. If not, please download 0.95 again.

So... how does it work?
Pretty simple, really.

1. One NPC in the air above the player, one NPC directly behind the player (both with their AI turned off and invisible).
2. AirNPC calls GetLOS on player. FloorNPC calls GetLOS on AirNPC (due to some buildings not having faces on the "outside top" of the building / structure).
3. If both come out zero, a waterfall mesh is placed at the player's location (since he just went under a building).
4. If the player is seen again, another waterfall mesh is placed (since he just walked out from under a building).
5. The rainfall meshes (activators) have a script that enables / disables them when the player is / is not under a building / it isn't raining.
6. If the player is underneath a building, the weather is switched to copy that doesn't have a precipitation mesh attached (this is why the mod is currently incompatible with other weather mods).

Obviously this implementation isn't perfect, but it works relatively well for things like arches and such.

Okay, bad news.

When I fired up my game with this on, and started walking (no rain was about, by the way) I got a waterfall placed inside of me and a crash. I figured it was a fluke, and brung my game back up. This time there was no crash, but on a nice sunny day I kept getting waterfalls stuck inside of me and flashing around me. All sorts of weird.

I've run into a few problems-

1. On a clear day and in the open (in the IC Arboretum) I get the message that a water fall is behind me (none shows up) and I can not zoom out in third person- like there is a wall behind me.
2. I seem to be crashing whenever I zone, at least in the IC (haven't tried leaving the city yet, though I suspect that it has something to do with the arches over the doors.

2. I'm not suffering crashes, and it seems you are using another weather mod - the ReadMe specifically states that this mod is incompatible with other weather-related mods, at least for the time being. That's likely the reason you are getting CTD issues.

Shows what I get for not reading :facepalm:

To clarify point 1, there's no waterfall- just the message and the inability to zoom out due to an invisible wall. Maybe the other weather mod was tricking the rain mod into thinking it needed to put one there.

The game crashed as soon as I entered an exterior. I caught a glimpse of the "Waterfall added" debug message before then though. I wasn't using any weather mods and the weather was clear when I came out.

Wow! Only seems like a couple weeks ago that http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=1068713&hl=rain topic was started and now Reneer hooks us all up super fast!
Hope it gains All Natural compatibility. I saw in the readme that Reneer was planning on making this compatible with weather mods! :hubbahubba:

AN Compatibility would be quite tricky, it would probably be a lot easier to integrate it into AN like how Natural Interiors is. All such talk is, however, a long way off.

I just have a suggestion about the development of this very promising project: will you make your "Reneer's Rain Mod" compatible with "http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=6249" (latest versions now included with the "All Natural" weather overhaul mod) and, why not, with "http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=9779" mods?
This should be a very great idea to see the rain falling through the windows when the player is inside a building... ^^♥

Anyway, I wish you good luck for the development of this very great and, oh! very promising mod!
There are a long time than we expected a such mod which enhance the realism of this game! Keep well! : )

OK, this post should hopefully put to rest any questions regarding weather mod compatibility:

First, a disclaimer: There has been no communication between Reneer and myself at all besides the two posts on the first page of this thread in regards to this mod, at all. Hence, what I say below is strictly my opinion and viewpoint.

Reneer's Rain Mod (RRM) is incompatible with weather mods. This includes Natural Weather, Atmospheric Weather System, Enhanced Weather, All Natural, or any derivative works.

In respect to All Natural, I am for seeing a solution such as this being compatible with AN, and so compatibility may be a possibility at a later date. Any work on such would start once All Natural is past 1.0, and RRM is stable and fully functional on it's own, and Reneer is happy with it. The method of compatibility is unlikely to be a simple case of patching either mod, but rather there would probably need to be a full integration into All Natural of RRM, similar to how Natural Interiors is integrated. This, of course, is subject to the approval and permission of Reneer, and the other devs of All Natural, Arthmoor and Brumbek.

In respect to Enhanced Weather, I would be willing to make, or provide assistance in the making of, a patch that would enable compatibility between the two mods, if it is possible.

In respect to the other weather mods, I would be willing to provide assistance as above, but I'm not going to make patches myself.

In all cases, compatibility is something to be worked on once both mods are stable and complete on their own, so that is something to consider for the future, and not bug Reneer about now.

That's my stance on things, Reneer's already stated that RRM is incompatible with weather mods, and it's still in beta, so asking for compatibility right now is a bit of a waste of time, since it's still WIP, and Reneer's probably got his hands full already.

Reneer's Rain Mod 0.91 Released!

0.91 - Hopefully fixed issues with CTD problems (though since I am not experiencing them, this is difficult). Removed a debug message. Fixed issues with some waterfalls not rotating themselves properly.
