Repair Costs Currently In Game

Post » Sat Mar 08, 2014 6:50 am

Ok, the dreaded repair cost thread is here. What's your take? Too high? Too low? Just right? Get rid of it all together?!

A quick example from my experiences: Had a level 8 sorc, went to repair and saw it was 840g. This was maybe with 1 death but otherwise just playing. Thankfully, I replaced all my gear with level 8 stuff and didn't have to pay the bill.

Didn't play in the latest beta but from my experience with the previous ones:

Imo remove them and add something a little harsher for a penalty. Repair costs are negligible and more of a nuinsanse than a real penalty that makes you appreciate the life of your character.

Anything to drain money out of the system. This generally breeds a more active economy.

Too early to say wether the repair cost is too high or low.

If Zenimax balances it later on, its easier to tune it downwards. So its safer to start with high repair costs.

At least for early levels, it's much cheaper to just make new gear than to repair. To me, that says it's too high. Now, once your putting on traits, improving your gear and adding enchantments, that will change, but I'm guessing the by then the repair costs will be much higher, too.

It depends on how the costs scale.

I wonder what it costs to repair epic and legendary VR gear.

Anyway, i would rather have a real durability property for items that makes them wear down over time and eventually become irreparable.

That way there would always be a demand for items and resources, instead of what we are heading for now is just getting your high end gear and goldgrind for repairs.

I was struggling in PvE when I stopped questing in my teens and just went 'grinding' - was slowly running out of gold due to repair costs (even if i didn't die)

I dont know at lvl 14 i never spent more than 100/150 golds for a full repair.

840 sounds too much, a glitch or something.

I would rather see a system that would allow me (as a blacksmith) utilize blacksmithing materials to do the repairs with, while simultaneously levelling my craft by doing this. So you can basically, fight and use your weapons, gather resources, and then repair your used weapons and get better at the craft without having to spend ANY coin at all.

High level items would require high level blacksmithing.

Apologies for any possible spelling errors.

I like this idea. Of course, the same could apply to other crafts for appropriate items.

It could coexist peacefully with the current repair costs for those players who just don't want to craft.

I'm all for harsher death penalties to make death more than just an annoyance, but I think that's outside the scope of this topic.

It would only make sense for a blacksmith to be able to repair his/her own weapons. If this isn't in the game then im quite suprised by that. If you fix something enough times you get better at it, why would it be any different in this game?

you can also buy repair kits, those may be worth it if your gear is really battered

i havent tested them i usually just made new gear instead of repairing

With how much tier 1 crafting mats sold to merchants I think the repair cost are fine. Once we can start selling mats to other players gold will be no issue at all.

prices have been adjusted in the new build - both resource selling prices and also the equipment selling price. (not sure if repair costs have changed though)

Did notice that repair kits were prohibitively expensive, especially when compared with the costs of repairs ... at least at Level 12.
