[RELz] Repair Kits

Post » Tue May 10, 2011 5:46 am

If you play with Oblivion XP and if you don't choose armorer as one of your major or specialized skills it can become pretty annoying to walk around with enchanted gear. There is no way to repair it other than walking back to town to visit a smith since you will most likely never have an armorer skill of 50. With this mod I try to remedy that without making the armorer skill useless.

== Repair Kits ==

REQUIRES OBSE

This mod adds repair kits you can buy from smiths and weapon dealers. There are two types of repair kits, one for weapons and one for armor. With a repair kit you can restore your equipment to 100% condition, no matter what your armorer skill is or whether the equipment is enchanted or not. Weapon kits will restore your currently equipped weapon to 100%, armor kits will restore all your currently equipped armor to 100%.

To balance the mod a bit and make the armorer skill not useless I gave the kits a relatively high price (weapon kit costs as much as 3 repair hammers (base price 30 gold), armor kit costs as much as 15 repair hammers (base price 150 gold)) and a rather heavy weight (weapon kit weighs 2 pounds, armor kit weighs 10 pounds). There is also a limited supply of kits in the game world so you can't just buy 100 kits and repair your gear with it all the time. It's meant to be a last resort for characters with a low armorer skill stuck deep down in a dungeon with almost broken gear.

This mod makes most sense if you use Oblivion xP and Enhanced Economy with hard settings. With vanilla style leveling you will eventually reach an armorer skill of 50 no matter whether you want it or not, in which case the repair kits become pretty useless. If you don't use EE the prize of the kits won't matter much since money will be abundant anyway.

Interesting and useful mod. It has always annoyed me, even with vanilla (or Realistic Leveling/nGCD) that enchanted gear is next to useless until you reach level 50 in armorer, and this mod will fix that.

Note that there is one more way to repair enchanted equipment when your armorer skill is below 50, and that is to use my http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=32365 mod. With that mod you get to repair enchanted equipment when in an owned house (or the house of a faction you're member of), not to 100% (unless you change the default settings), but somewhere in the 80-90% range. Those two mods work well together, and even makes sense to use together though. :)

Cool release, thank you. Now if only someone could fix the repair hammers themselves so they weren't so stupidly unrealistic. Hammering fur/leather/glass/wood to fix it? :facepalm:

Say, repair kits are good and all, but how hard would it be to create "enchanted repair hammers" that can repair enchanted equipment regardless of armorer skill level, but otherwise function exactly the same as normal repair hammers?

Phitt:

Thanks for this mod. Would appear it alleviates one of the design flaws in the original game in a manner that makes sense and maintains balance. :foodndrink:
