Repairing armor and weapons?

Post » Thu Nov 26, 2015 6:01 am

Anyone think this feature will be in it? Most likely?

Would you want it in this game? Do away with it? Could care either way?

They pretty much did away with this feature in Skyrim and just added Smithing.

I'm hoping its done away with in Fallout 4 as it was a major issue in Fallout: New Vegas with Power Armor as there wasn't a lot of it laying around unless you killed off Brotherhood of the Steel and what not to scavenge for it.

Although I can empathize with those who did like it and would want to keep this feature. Thoughts?

I believe that they will probably follow trend with Skyrim and do away with Repairing which would upset me!

I really don't know what to think, I'm thinking Owain1122 is right though.

I'd like them to keep the feature. It just needs some "finetuning", meaning I want shoot more than ten times or take more than ten hits before the equipment breaks.

I wouldn't mind them going the Skyrim route of unbreakable weapons and armor, but if they do degrade I hope they keep the Jurry-Rigging perk and Repair Kits.

I think that they need to improve on this, instead of searching for other pieces of armor/apparel you can repair it with metal, wonderglue etc...

keeping your gear in working order seems to work better for Fallout than it does the Elder Scrolls.

I don't think they would ditch repairing so easily. It's a derelict world after all, having a 200 year-old gun after 10,000 shots that won't wear down is a bad mechanic.

I hope they keep the repair and maintenance of gear. Not in the way it was in Fallout 3 or New Vegas, though, but implement it in a more granular way that doesn't merely come down to busywork. Say four different condition states all of which provide a tangible up/downgrade to the items performance; the higher you go the more difficult it gets to repair. The bottom condition not being "Broken", but "Worn" with a possibility to break - for example - on a critical failure. (There's more to it of course, but the bare basics.)

They might do like Skyrim where it doesn't degrade, but instead you can improve the gear. Like, the base equipment you find is pretty lousy regardless, but then you can install modifications or upgrades or things like that. The Repair skill might become a Mechanic skill, which determines how much you can improve your gear.

Skyrim and Fallout are two different games entirely.

Fallout is designed around the entire idea of surviving in the wasteland. Repairing and maintaining weapons, armor and equipment is a main mechanic in such a narrative. Removing it would be quite literally stupid

If repairing is in I hope the bring back the "Jury Righjng" perk from NV. That was very useful.

Instead of outright removal Id rather they change durability to efficiency since with durability the guns wore away at unbelievable rates that was in no way realistic. Make it so guns don't break but get less effective as it gets used more so we still have maintenance but guns will just be near useless instead of entirely broken once the bar is empty.

I hope it's gone. I understand the RPG aspects are appealing to some, but let's face it, you just carry tons of weapons around only to periodically go to your pip boy and press x for them not to break. It's tedious and doesn't really add anything. That's me though.

Honestly aside from upgrading them to this point i would like to see different grades randomly spawned, nothing rediculous like better damage or anything but maybe slightly better or worse accuracy amd durability. I used to sell guns and it is amazing the variety you find in crates of surplus arms even from the same place, pristine AK's mixed in with complete rattle traps for example.

Just to give a little variety in the loot

Agreed. I've always wondered why it took a whole weapon/armor to repair my own when really I could use certain bits and use makeshift bits. I would hate to see the system go altogether.

If we can make repair kits like in NV I'd be happy

Enough with the removal of RPG features already. Weapons degrade and Fallout has a good system of repair. Keep it.

They are but they're made by the same company who will be trying to streamline as much as possible. I hope you're right though.

I hope it stays I actually like repairing weapons and armor. It just, like someone already said, needs to be improved a lot. I should be able to go at least one gunfight without my gun on the verge of breaking.

Keep weapon/armor degradation/repair in. Maybe expand on it by making it possible to disassemble weapons/armor for parts, like springs, triggers, ceramic plating, etc, and can make various repair kits with those.

FO4 should copy Skyrim's removal of repair and adjust it into a rebuilding broken, incomplete weapons and armor system so you have to piece things back to get them fully operational. Also there can be some improvable and interchangeable parts that augment how weapons and armor work.

I have no problems with the repair system in NV (hate the way it is in 3. You know what work is to repair a Shishkebab and 15 minutes ingame you have to repair AGAIN?). I even like to walk around, collecting items to make a weapon repair kit.

But ...... I once made a character in NV for use as main weapon the Holorifle. This weapon has a peculiar bug. Up to 100% is repaired, her condition never decays.

It turns out I loved this bug. So if they take off the weapons degradation, I confess that I will not be sad.

I would like to keep the repair idea in, but with a different system maybe? I was thinking about different grades of weapons being repaired with rarer repair kits. I think the idea of kits in NV was great, but it was very easy to make a kit that repaired the same things. The kit repaired a tire iron and plasma rifle in the same way I believe. I'd like it to be easy to repair the bad weapons and more difficult for the higher level stuff. Who knows what the system actually is, though. Something like that is either already implemented or cut.
