Repairing in Fallout

Post » Mon Mar 15, 2010 8:49 am

Just curious how you repair apparel/weapons in Fallout 1. Just picked it up and it didn't come with a manual, so I'm a little lost. Appreciate the help.

No repairing in any of the Fallout games except Fallout 3.

The repair skill is only for specific broken machinery in game.

You don't repair inventory items in the originals, that was a new feature introduced for Fallout 3. A great system, but I think it needs alot of tweaking for FO4. Maybe we'll see an improvement for F:NV? Who knows.

Your weapons can blow up in the originals though, but they are known as 'critical failures' and usually require your character to be very unlucky or unskilled with the weapon he/she is attempting to use. I would like to see some form of critical failure sustem re-introduced, I like knowing there's always a chance I could kick myself and cripple my groin.

if you get the pariah dog your weapons fail all the time, and you cant kill the dog, because you keep missing. Its really annoying the dog wont die! :(

I see, thanks for clearing that up guys. Guess I just assumed you could based on Repair being a secondary skill. I've been investing in this skill...do you come across enough broken machinery in the game to make this skill worth investing in?

I'm afraid to say not as much as most people would like. It's kindof the same with Science, although I think Science in FO3 is arguably not very useful either, as most computers are just another way to unlock everything.

Another quick question pertaining to Fallout (didn't want to waste board space creating a thread for it). What patch should I be using for Windows XP?

I've been running FO 1.2 and it works fine (other than taking out the chilluns)...check the stickie in this section for all the up to date stuff...you definitely need Killap's patch for FO2

I'm not sure off hand anymore, but I think that dog had about 700 hitpoints.

If you find the special encounter that allows you to travel back in time, get the solar scorcher, that will make taking out the pariah dog simple.

I agree with this. Weapons degrade in Fallout 3 to add immersion because it makes it more realistic. However, the items degrade unrealistically fast. First off, in FO4 they need to make items degrade more slowly. Next, you should be able to use your work bench/scrap metal to repair items. Lastly, there should be merchants that can repair items to 100%, for a high price of course.

Yeah, Pariah Dog was quite annoying once you get tired of him hanging around. I eventually settled for systematically crippling all his legs with a Melee weapon, and then going for the eyes and hoping for good criticals. (Didn't want to waste the ammo on him.) I think it still took me a couple of hours to finish the job. Sort of left me feeling a little bad about myself, kicking a defenseless dog back and forth all over town for hours on end. :)
