Repent your crimes, wicked one

Post » Sat May 17, 2014 6:53 pm

I have repented my crimes several times and paid the fines but when I go to the chapel to rejuveniate myself it keeps telling me to repent my crimes. What do I need to do ? Thanks

The game tracks two things: Fame and Infamy.

If your infamy is higher than your fame, you get that message. Unless you have Knights of the Nine, there's no way to lower your infamy. You can find it on your chracter page, under statistics.

No.. I have just started the game over last week. I'm doing the dark Brotherhood. I didn't want to do the pilgrimage until I finished the dark Brotherhood. You know what happens every time you kill someone. you have to start the pilgrimage over and over.

If you're an assassin, you're doing evil. You can't very well expect to receive blessings from the gods, can you? :)

Umm, ya! You can't expect the Nine to bless a murderer, do you?

What platform are you on? There is a http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/32791/? I use that makes the pilgrimage 100000000% easier.

As I said, your infamy is higher than your fame.

If you perform all of the sidequests, daedric quests, and the "good" guild questlines (The Arena, Fighter's Guild, and Mages Guild,) you will have about 10 points of fame over your infamy, provided you haven't been caught stealing/murdering.

Your only options are to do good deeds (AKA non-DB/Theive's Guild quests,) or to do the Pilgrimage quest, in order to receive blessings at the temple.

This mod is supposed to fix that.

http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/4854//?

Me thinks it would be simple enough to alter the script though.

Also Wrye made a mod that adds markers to all the shrines in the wilderness.. Also markers to those Aleid Wells.

I thank you all for your imput. I think MARSS hit it right on the head..My infamy is twice that of my fame, but I suspected something like that, thats why I chose to do the Dark Brotherhood first. So until my fame catches up with my infamy, I guess I'll have to use potions. I am 72 yrs old and am an addictid Oblivianite I don't have a clue about a mod. I use a regular X-Box 360.. Thanks

This is one of the few areas where Oblivion at least makes a token effort at putting consequences on player actions. Older role-playing games were much stricter about the evil/good alignment, often shutting off whole quest lines because of player-character choices.

Clever characters who prefer to keep their dark deeds to themselves might choose to do the Thieves Guild questline before the Dark Brotherhood. You potentially pick up roughly 30 infamy points from each of these two questlines. By doing the TG first however, you can don the cowl when reporting your DB missions complete, and the infamy for your assassinations will go to the Gray Fox.

I'm not advocating for or against choices/consequences etc, simply pointing out a somewhat subtle aspect of being head of the TG.

This. Is so awesome. I think I can forsee myself still playing some TES when (if) I am 72. Instead of controllers or a mouse/keyboard, they'll merely have a holodeck sort of set-up. :geek: Electrodes strapped to our heads, and virtual reality a premium.

I had one clever character who tried to do that but he kept forgetting to don the cowl . . .
