Repercussions for killing Vulpes Inculta in Nipton?

Post » Wed Dec 08, 2010 1:43 am

I''ve just reached Nipton. After I talked to Vulpes Inculta, I tried to pull off the trick I did in my last (unfinished) playthrough- silent-snipe both dogs accompanying the Legionnaires without anyone noticing. Well, they did notice, and next thing I know I'm standing amidst the dead bodies of Inculta and the rest of the gang. Now, Inculta is meant to be the guy who gives you the Mark of Caesar, but my understanding is that another messenger does it if he's dead. I don't plan to side with and work for the Legion, so the quests Inculta gives aren't important to me, and neither is the Legion reputation. Are there any more reprecussions for killing him?

I only killed this guy pre-patch. Well, it was not me, but one time I was not thinking when I walked into Nitpon not realizing Boone was with me....

Anyway, after the dust settled, I got all kinds of messages about Legion related quests failing. The only one that should fail is the one where he wants you to spread the word of the atrocities. One that was marked Failed was Mark of Caesar. So, I reloaded.

However you are correct in that another Legion member will (or should) find you later to give you the Mark and invite you to the Fort.

I killed him in version 1.1 and the quests I "failed" were Finger of Suspicion and Cold Cold Heart. I think that was it. Neither would matter to a non-Legion playthrough. Haven't done it since patch 1.2.

Edit: so no, no repercussions at all.

I replayed it; this time only killed the two mongrels and one Legionnaire recruit. Sadly, the one with the Cowboy Repater is usually at the head of the procession, so there's no way to kill him without others noticing.

Did you try a stealthboy? They may notice & mill about, but if you then go away w/out talking to them and come back, they may reset to neutral again. Not sure, just something to try?

Haha! So true. I killed him once to see what would happen (and to make Boone happy, harhar) but other than that I always leave him alone until the Fort. I like listening to him. :D

I always leave Boone just outside of town and I've never killed Vulpes. He sure is creepy though. I've always listened to him but now I think it'll be different next time....just to do something different. :)

Might work I guess, but I'm not sure that all of their gear put together is worth a Stealthboy.

Killed him on this playthrough and apart from failing a two minor tasks, the only consequence was being attacked by assassins a couple of times. Apart from that nothing much happened, I bumped into some at that small camp north of the Raid Camp and their leader said hello as he walked past. Later when the Legion messenger approached me outside the Tops he said forgiven for killing him,

LOL!!!! You got that right! If you kill Vulpes, he is replaced by some guy named Alerio as the spy on the strip. I usually kill him too.

After Ranger Ghost asked me to check on Nipton, we made our way there and this time I didn't ask Boone and ED-E to wait outside of town. We snuck in and talked to Boxcars and then snuck around a bit more outside before I started walking down the road to the Town Hall. Boone was behind me and it only took a fraction of a second for him to go off. I didn't get to do much and Vulpes was eliminated. Then we made sure the town was cleared and went off to save the people who were enslaved.

I didn't know that both of these things would be Boone's triggers for Bitter Springs so that happened pretty fast since we had just reclaimed Nelson too.

well - i sort of kill him because he sort of prompts me to ... 'if you feel strongly about it, attack us...'
and as my little courier does feel strongly about it and doesn't want to be called cowardly... she did - downed him and his guys with the help of ED-E ... maybe one playthrough i let him live - but he makes it hard to allow that - you either play along with them or you are a coward

When Boone and I storm the Fort his body doesn't turn up after we've killed everyone there. I wonder if they do that on purpose so he can show up in future DLCs and/or games involving the Legion as a recurring villain. He's certainly the most interesting member of the Legion I've ever run across.

I let him live, just because I was planning on siding with the Legion the whole time, including the quest We are Legion. But I wanted to do Boone's side quest so I ended up regreting not killing him.

Niptom has some good sniper perches just west of the town hall.
It takes some getting to, leaping on trucks again and again.. then try to hop up on one of the ruined roof tops.
Low sneak, no stealth boy and a silent scoped varmit rifle is all you need, even during day time.

As for outcomes.. if you're killing NPC's because you disagree with them why worry about how their boss reacts later.
